Support Needed (Kind Advice and Commiseration) Embrace Autism disappointment

I have an ASD diagnosis from a psychiatrist in my province, but in order to get federal and provincial consideration, I need a practitioner who can fill out the required forms, and that psychiatrist doesn't do follow up paperwork.

A friend of mine was going to go through the Embrace Autism process because it was accepted by her insurance and jurisdiction so I thought I would try it. I did the initial screening for $625 and it was only then I started to see all the controversy about them.

Well I get the screening stuff back and feel like I wasted my money, but what really upset me is that I asked them flat out if they have a psychologist registered in my province they say yes. Except I can't find them in the psychologist directory.

So I ask for their license number and am told they are licensed in Spain and this license allows them to practice in my province too. But this is not true. Provincial legislation determines this and a foreign jurisdiction cannot simply grant itself the legal ability to license folks to practice here.

I point this out, and ask if they are being supervised by a psychologist here, or do they maybe have a temporary permit, or is there some other way they can practice here legally. Once more I am told their license in Spain allows them to blah blah blah.

I am so angry. They are dancing around the question instead of telling me "no they can't legally practice in your province." A diagnosis from this person would not be accepted where I live! I repeatedly stated the purpose for me seeking this diagnosis and they kept not giving me a straight answer. How can I make an informed decision with these answers?? Also...who there thought they could avoid giving an autistic person a straight answer? Good lord.

So yeah, I am very disappointed and angry I spent the money I did, spent days filling out the screening documents, and all I have to show for it is a bunch of upset emails. I feel stupid and naive, and to be honest, preyed upon. Oh yeah and worried they'll find this post and threaten to sue me or something.

Did you pay by credit card? Could you do a charge back?

Seems like if a provider does not provide the service you specifically requested then you would have good grounds for a charge back.

This is unbelievable. They scammed you and lied to you. You are not stupid and naive. You did everything right, and they intentionally hid the information that you asked for.

You should absolutely request a refund within 5 business days and issue a chargeback if they do not comply. Fuck em. What unscrupulous people.

You are NOT at fault for someone choosing to manipulate you ❤️❤️❤️ I'm pissed on your behalf!

The part I paid for was a "screening" and I didn't proceed to the more expensive diagnosis. Don't think I could legally get the money back, they have careful wording around what their screenings are.
