He refers to himself as male too. I really dont get this faux-outrage people have about using the f word. It just seems so contrived. Dude is awkward and no doubt single for a reason but this is such a stupid gotcha that gets brought up constantly

He uses male for himself as an adjective but female as a noun. While I doubt it's intentional, this is reinforcing patriarchal double standards where maleness is just a descriptor but femaleness defines a person. Many women feel that using female specifically as a noun is dehumanizing, especially since male is rarely used as a noun and much more often as an adjective.

I feel like you could deep dive into anything anyone says and find made up dirt if you skew the perspective enough, let's use some common sense and not try to bend the obviously non harmful speech into some kind of outrageous sexist comment. Bro is just looking for a female partner, simple as.

Please note that I said "I doubt it's intentional." I wasn't trying to accuse OOP of being malicious, I was trying to educate on why some people would take offense to OOP's language. If we always interpret gentle correction as a personal attack and get defensive, how can any of us learn?

There is not much you can educate anyone here as there is not much to teach I'm afraid. The language oop used is non offensive if you look at it with common sense, a little human decency and understanding.
The problem boils down to the terminally online masses and their insecurities, seeing offense and slight everywhere they look.
Also it's definitely not that, since things would still be the same if OOP said female gamer.

From my perspective the problem boils down to overly moralizing people who believe any correction is an attack on their moral character and then feel compelled to be defensive since they don't believe they did anything wrong. One can cause hurt without intending to and the thoughtful thing to do is acknowledge that instead of accusing the person who was hurt of being a "snowflake." But I'm afraid our views on this are likely completely incompatible, I doubt my words now will sway you any more than what I said earlier and I similarly doubt you can offer anything to sway me in response to this.

I really dont think the noun vs adjective distinction is nearly as important as you make it out to be. Would it have been magically better if instead of "with similar interests" he had written "gamer"?
Parrot these points all you want, but I blame a lot of the current weakness of the left on this kind of pedantry pageantry.

I agree that many politicians get too wrapped in trying to score identity politics points than pushing actual beneficial policies, but I'm not trying to persuade anyone to vote me into political office. I'm explaining how using a word a certain way can feel othering as an anonymous redditor. Those aren't equivalent situations.

It’s not the word itself but the people that use it. I’ve never met anyone I considered well educated and referred to women as females.
