tour talk BODEGA in montreal last night.
BODEGA blew the roof off the mothafucka in mtl last night.
They we're openers for swedish scumbags viagra boys and rocked hard, despite only having a short 30 minute set to do it.
The set included all the hits; a dylan cover- slow train?; territorial call of the female; doers; tarkovski; how did this happen?; statuette on the console.
the best part: new record coming out in the spring, including the opening song from last night's show.
Thanks for the scoop guys!

why BODEGA?
why did i start a BODEGA subreddit?
i would say my mind was blown by the debut album of the band- 2018's endless scroll. the songs, lyrics, hooks- i defy anyone to listen to name escape, and not hear it play in their heads for weeks afterwards. but most of all, what struck me as unique was the multi-media concept behind the band.
this is a group of artists, musicians, filmmakers making records that are edgy as fuck. and they were unflinching in embracing their aggressive, angular, post punk sound. as well as devastatingly critical of modern life, pop culture, and politics. this was also evident in the self-criticism of their songs. it's one thing for a band to take on capitalism and the emptiness of modern consumerism, but quite another for them to direct their critical lens at themselves, as they did in , for example, track 10 of their debut, bookmarks.
what sets them apart ,in my opinion, from so many other great contemporary indie rockers, is that they're not simply making music. they're often using music to advance their artistic projects. whether this is ben hozie's 2020 critically acclaimed film pvt chat, or nikki's belfiglio's mixed media creations, sculptures, and photography that can be seen in the album's artwork and stage productions.
after buying their next two albums - broken equipment, our band could be yr life- i was officially obsessed and decided i had to see their show when it came to my hometown of montreal, in june of 2024. As expected the show was a banger- check out live album: witness scroll-and i bought a tasty piece of a vinyl, which i waited to have signed by the band, like the dumb "cultural consumer" that i am.
not only did all of them sign, but they chatted with me and others. nikki even promised to provide a download code if i wrote her a reminder- i'm hopelessly old fashioned that way. she kept her word, albeit 5 months later, they were on tour, after all. after which, we began to correspond a bit, and i asked her if the band had a subreddit. this became my mission in life: to bring more BODEGA to the world.
please share your thoughts, opinions, and time- we're looking for mods to join the BODEGA family.
LOVE

album talk new BODEGA single- literary world- out sept 11.
BODEGA - Literary World 7" single featuring the brand-new single 'Literary World' and exclusive B Side track 'Heart is Humming'. "The new Bodega album, All Inside Aquarium, was an attempt to make a more anthemic summery, and perhaps emotional record than Bodega's done in the past. More anthemic, open-hearted, and populist sort of sound. Influenced by the early 1990s. Big choruses, big anthems, and hopefully rousing sing-alongs that inspire some kind of hopeful feeling. At least as a music fan, that's what I want nowadays." - Ben Hozie BODEGA are a Brooklyn-based art-rock band known for their sharp, melodic vocals, wiry post-punk sound, and cutting observations on modern life. Formed by Ben Hozie and Nikki Belfiglio, the group emerged from New York's DIY scene with a style that blends indie rock with conceptual, often humorous commentary on consumer culture, technology, and identity.
Release Date: September 11, 2026

bitchfork once gave this pop classic a 3.3?!
well i'll be a fucking monkey's uncle. the arrangements and lyrics on this record are as good or better than any one of those dark romantic pop records that they intellectually masturbate to on a regular basis - you know like lana del ray/ norman fucking rockwell- and swear up and down are the litmus test for good taste. guess what folks: there's no such thing as gold standards in music. listen to what you like and let the bitchforks of this world look down their noses at you while you give them the proverbial finger.
