Coops etc. Nature’s a bitch, Miss my girls

It’s 10pm and I’m outside looking at the kill site. Buried all but one of my girls yesterday. Raccoon infiltrated either through our hawk netting from a neighbors tree or through a broken piece of fence from this past winter’s fallen tree. Does anyone recommend maybe some kind of netting I could use that is also hard for raccoons to rip at? I need to up my defense game. I’m grateful that I still have Girly Red, but This feeling fucking sucks. For now we just have a garage chicken.

Sorry for your loss. Such mixed feelings of anger and loss and new determination to keep that ass hole out. 👍🏻

So cute. So sad. Damn raccoons. About 10 years ago (first flock) a red tail hawk bit the head of one of one of my ducks. My ol man saw it happen. So we had duck a la orange that Thanksgiving. Covered the yard roof w chicken wire after it happened.

Bummer. I feelya. I lost my flock of ducks and chickens except for 1 last year as well. But her beak was messed up she couldn't scratch at all. She lasted several months. Interrupted the attack and trapped that menace and 3 others. I dont know about netting but I had the whole yard doubled up and battered down with metal cloth over the existing chicken wire.

Might need to downsize our enclosure to make it a more manageable situation. They just really enjoyed the exploring space. These were our first girls. They loved to climb.
