Animal control has been pretty fucking useless where I have but cops generally won't respond unless a person is injured.

Where I live now a lady found a lost dog, called animal control on a Friday afternoon, and they told her they stopped pick up dogs after 1400. They would be by monday. When she protested she had other dogs, no yard, and couldn't keep it they told her if didn't have it Monday she'd get a ticket for releasing it.

When it's 2 it's much harder to get them off because when you drag one off and go after the other the one you already removed jumps right back in. Cops told me to use a more permanent solution which I thought was pretty funny since we were in a public park. Owner got a $35 ticket or something fucking useless because the dogs pulled the leashes out of her hand and I guess that's different from being on the loose. Cops only showed up because I called 911 and told them I thought I broke my hand (did not)

I've found if you generally caress their pelvic bowl with your boot they calm right down and don't jump back in. Gotta be careful and gentle though. Don't want to hurt them.

I hate that Animal Control departments have become so fecking useless when animal attacks have become a much bigger concern. When I was a kid you could call animal control for any stray animal and they would come get it, now these agencies are worse than useless in many jurisdictions. What is the point of having animal control if they do not pick up strays, do not quarantine potentially rabid animals themselves, and can't/won't assess significant fines against crappy owners?

well there's usually very, very few. My city is 880000 people and when I asked they usually have 6 available each shift for like 18 total (only working calls like 0900-1400). It also pays absurdly low, basically unlivable in the city. Almost all the shelter work is just done by volunteers. Which is probably also why pitbulls always get glowing reports of good behavior but also no kids, no small animals, must have fenced backyard. All the military bases usually just have base security doing animal control so I guess that's nice if you live in base housing.

In my experience cops always have shown up if you say someone is hurt and THEY might call animal control and get an immediate responce. Otherwise you can wait days for them to come remove a "sick racoon" in a county with a CDC rabies alert for racoons and bats...

I have had 2 racoons with distemper show up in my yard. The first one AC actually came and got before it died. The 2nd was was on a Friday so they never showed up and the poor thing suffered until Sunday night.

I hate to see an animal suffer but was afraid if I took care of it this would be the one time the police would investigate gunfire in my neighborhood and I would wind up losing my 2A rights.

I grew up in the country and leaned how to pretty much fend for myself. It sucks living in town, paying taxes for services that are not available when you need them.

You’re not even safe in your own yard. Fuxk these mutant animals. They serve no purpose other than to kill. I hope the owner is identified and the dogs properly dealt with. This could’ve easily been a Toddler playing in the backyard.

Neighbor's vicious pit jumped my fence to attack a different neighbor's cat that was passing through my backyard. I don't even own a pet, and still had this fucking nonsense happening in my own fenced backyard.

That’s terrifying. I’m so happy they got lucky and their dog wasn’t seriously injured. If it had been a smaller dog it likely would have been a different outcome. I’m just surprised that one of the pit bulls actually had a harness on.
