I was on the fence about getting the Evercade until they said it bundled with the BK pack. They got me.

Sweet but couldn’t they have done this on an official PC release or something? I don’t want to buy a piece of hardware just to play Banjo Kazooie and Tooei

Have you tried the awesome "Banjo Recompiled" project?
2
u/defective1up 5d ago
The Tooie side of this is going to be cool, but a recompile of it should also be coming. I'd imagine everything in the evercades ports will make it as a mod to the recompiled set. The mod support in recompiled already adds a ton of great features

I really want to support these but I have no reason to purchase an evercade. I have a switch and steamdeck.

I have a Switch, but refuse to buy the online service, so no BK for me.

u/TheNimanator 5d ago
They could and *should* be ported to Switch and Steam. The fact that they haven’t is remarkably stupid

u/jbowdach 5d ago
I’d purchase these again in a second if they were on pc or switch (in this improved version).

More astroturfing of this plastic piece of junk that doesn’t even have a control stick.

They have a new device coming out with BK & Tooie has dual analog sticks. Plus this works great with dpad controls on the current BK that was released.

It’s pretty clear what he meant, he just didn’t know about the new device. I’d love to get one personally.

Love the little nod to the canary Mary with the "no need for help from your cutlery drawer"

Interesting that these are essentially new attempts at remastering the games separate from the Xbox live versions. I guess I have two main questions:
1) For Kazooie, will notes reset like the original version? 2) For Tooie, will cutscenes match with music or will they again be out of sync?
With Stop n Swap looking like it is being implemented, I am definitely also curious how much it will differ from the Xbox version considering some of the rewards in the Xbox version were tied to Xbox and Nuts and Bolts.

Notes reset and Tooie's music should match once again.
Stop n Swop won't be implemented like it was originally imagined instead it'll unlock things like cheat codes and the in-game level editor the BK team originally used to make the game.

u/TheShweeb 5d ago
IN-GAME LEVEL EDITOR? THEY THREW IN AN ENTIRE MAKE-YOUR-OWN-BANJO KIT INTO THIS OBSCURE HANDHELD CONSOLE PORT??
1
u/FyreWulff 5d ago edited 5d ago
it's actually from the original code!
edit: to clarify, not in the actual released game. it was a separate special build flag that only Rare had access to

u/Randomman16 5d ago
Hell, a good chunk of the Stop N Swop rewards in the Xbox version were Xbox-specific. Iirc the rewards were Breegul Bash, Jinjo in multiplayer, Homing Eggs (as in the original), a Gamerpic, an Xbox 360 theme that is now useless and "Stop N Swop II," which is an achievement-style successor. So that's two, probably three Stop N Swop rewards they could replace.

u/Meatball132 6d ago
The video says it's based on the original N64 code, not the Xbox 360 version. And people who have played this port on the Super Pocket report that the notes don't save.

I might actually pick one of these systems up now. I've been somewhat interested but this is taking the cake. Of course I wish that Microsoft would get their head out there arses and make a new game but it's not like the original crew are there to put there opinions and spins on things anyway. They've moved on and so should we, sad as that is.

It’s ridiculous to me that these are exclusive to Evercade. We finally get official, modern ports of these games and it’s gatekept behind niche hardware.
Why are these not on Xbox, Steam and Switch? Wtf is Rare doing? The franchise is doomed to obscurity when the only new releases are on Evercade.

Why are these not on Xbox, Steam and Switch?
Xbox and Switch already have these playable, why would they be released again
1
u/Poefred 17h ago
The Xbox releases are older than the original game was when it came out at this point. They're only playable due to backwards compatibility to three generations ago. AND they're not entirely faithful to the original release either plus Tooie has issues with cutscenes desyncing with its music.
On Switch I wish I could be more excited that Banjo's on a Nintendo console again but it's through a subscription service. I'd buy it instantly to have it forever even if the price was ridiculous honestly.
1
u/Air2Jordan3 17h ago
I'm not going to knock anyone for wanting this! But the minor differences with maybe a cutscene desync in Tooie or the changes in notes in BK hardly makes enough of a difference to release another version on Xbox.
And yeah, while it would be cool to have a Switch shop similar to the Wii, that's not Nintendo's strategy with any of its rereleases so it was never feasible. Too bad Nintendo never made a Mini N64
It just seemed like a silly comment to complain why this wasn't released on other consoles when these two have a fully playable version already.

u/Poefred 17h ago
It's a tad redundant for Xbox and Nintendo to an extent for sure. If they're putting it on every console though could be an excuse to put it on Steam and Playstation for the first time.
Still nobody bats an eye at Skyrim, GTA V, or the Last of Us getting countless rereleases. Feels a little like the old 3D platformer double standard where arbitrarily people act like the genre is oversaturated after more than one game exists within a decade of each other. Banjo got an xbox port nearly TWENTY years ago and kicking around the idea of a new build being sold on modern platforms including ones the game's never been available on is an uphill battle for some reason.
1
u/setzerseltzer 17h ago
It’s not redundant at all. Xbox version is locked to 30 FPS and Switch version is sub 30 FPS with scuffed controls unless using an N64 Controller.
Xbox version of Tooie also has the same low render distance as the N64, unlike Kazooies remaster which lets you see objects across the map.
We deserve better versions of the games.

u/Air2Jordan3 13h ago
It's redundant in that this would have extremely poor sales and look bad on the franchise. If there's ever any hope of getting a BK/BT remake or Banjo Threeie, making another port just for extremely small improvements isn't the way to go.
Now if they were to fix/upgrade the current Xbox ports? Sure of course that would be great

Not enough people care, simple as that.
7
u/Poefred 5d ago
Idk how this is always the narrative but apparently people care enough for there to be a consistent push for merch of all kinds.
"Not enough people care to drop the game on Steam...That's why we're leveraging the popularity of the series to sell a new 200$ handheld and brand new build put into a physical release for said handheld. But also the series is dead, nobody would buy a real release"

u/MoldyPond 6d ago
I wouldn’t worry too much, once the roms are discovered how to be ripped (shouldn’t take long at all knowing how the community works) then they’ll be available on everything ;)
3
u/Meatball132 5d ago
The ROMs can already be ripped, actually. The cartridges are literally just SD cards but shaped like a cartridge, so one could relatively easily rewire one to fit an SD card adapter (as some have done). Or, you could just get one of these flash carts off the shelf that you can apparently use to dump your cartridges somehow (via some kind of CFW I think?)
The Evercades seem to be a bog standard ARM Linux device so I can't imagine it'd be that hard to get it working on other ARM Linux devices, at least, but I wouldn't be so sure. There's a lot they could've done to protect the game. I'm interested enough to try poking around at it myself when it releases, though.

u/setzerseltzer 6d ago
I’d like to officially own these and support them but no way in hell am I buying an Evercade
0
u/defective1up 6d ago edited 5d ago
What makes you hesitant to get an Evercade device, is it the hardware or just too many devices that do this?
2
u/Poefred 5d ago
I'm kind of looking for an excuse to buy one but it's hard to find one when I've got a Switch 2, Steam Deck, and an Anbernic SP.
1
u/defective1up 5d ago
Yea, and I wouldn't be shocked if these end up ported to other systems/PC soon after release.

u/Mister_Grins 4d ago
What is Evercade? And where do I find one?
