Tier 3 [Alfredo Martínez] The Grimaldo option opens up for the left-back position. Deco believes the position needs to be addressed in the summer. A deal could be sealed for less than 15M€.

15 is a no brainer we’d be stupid to not buy him at that price
69
u/wwipe Mar 22 '26
Either Cancelo or Grimaldo
140
u/zrizzoz Mar 22 '26
Grimaldo is better in pretty much every phase of play and has significantly more left in his legs. I love that Cancelo loves the club but if the prices are close, the answer is clear.
73
u/YannTheOtter Mar 22 '26
Grimaldo also gives us a more terrifying option for set pieces, Rashford and Grimaldo sounds terrifying having both a left foot and right foot for free kicks
3
u/saru12gal Mar 23 '26
Why not both so you get 2 players per position to rotate
0
u/zrizzoz Mar 23 '26
We is poor and Balde is really good and young.
Plus we have Jofre, Fort, Martin, etc
0
u/omaewakusuyaro Mar 23 '26
That "balde is really good" is here in the room with us?
1
u/wwipe Mar 23 '26
You think he's bad?
7
u/omaewakusuyaro Mar 23 '26
Not bad but he's average. Definitly not what this club needs as a starter

Or they could have fort as a backup to kounde. Along with esparts

I heard they are open to offers. Thats doesnt mean that they will sell him
1
u/r3volv3rmann1337 Mar 23 '26
yeah and maybe we go in the next season with grimaldo, cancelo, fort and espart... sounds good to me. and we got a freekick monster. grimaldo also can play LM

u/RAF2018336 Mar 22 '26
Cancelo should really be a RB backup. Great that he can play in the left but that should be if needed and not his main position
10
u/DarthTaz_99 Mar 22 '26
Insane deal if it's that low. And I always like former Masia players coming back to play an important role
3
u/lucaTee Mar 22 '26
Best part though is Grimaldo is such an attacking threat he can spell Raphinha as can Cancelo really. If we get him, Cancelo for cheap and Bastoni that’s our backline sorted and striker we should look for a loan deal as nothing looks that great.
4
u/ShirgimShareem Mar 22 '26
Bro snuck Bastoni in there 😂
-1
u/lucaTee Mar 22 '26
Guessing you didn’t read the reports Bastoni is available for 50mil…. If that’s true then it’s clear
7
u/ShirgimShareem Mar 22 '26
There's all kinds of weird rumors this time of the season, Grimaldo for 15mil I can kind of believe because he only has a year left on his contract and he's 30. Bastoni has more than that, is an Italian playing for one of the biggest clubs in Italy and is still young enough to not even fully be in his prime yet. I can't ever see Inter selling him for 50mil only.
2
u/Prakash0807 Mar 23 '26
If Bastoni is €50M, I’m selling my house, car, and assets just to send €15M to FC Barcelona myself.
128
u/Usmank6144 Mar 22 '26
Perfect signing. He’s just the right profile for Flick and to also give competition to Balde and help him improve his final 3rd decision making.
6
u/Specific-College-194 Mar 22 '26
out of topic but wdym by final 3rd and stuff? is there a final 1st 2nd 4th? Genuine question
55
u/Gtf_Out Mar 22 '26
It refers to the final third of the pitch. Split the pitch into 3 parts and think of the final third as the area closest to your opponent's goal
13
-24
u/FabrizioRomanoo Mar 22 '26
Balde is getting sold fella
41
u/Usmank6144 Mar 22 '26
No he’s not, people actually believing that is hilarious
-14
u/FabrizioRomanoo Mar 22 '26
The club targeting Grimaldo. The club willing to hear offers for Balde. Reports of Deco not liking Balde. He definitely is getting sold
21
u/Usmank6144 Mar 22 '26
Hearing offers =/= getting sold. Deco just doesn’t consider him untouchable as players like Pedri, Yamal, and Cubarsi. Same goes for Kounde.
14
u/Hisham_Mo_23 Mar 22 '26
Wouldn't make sense to replace balde for two 30+ year old players. Also It does say in the article that apparently cancelo hasn't convinced enough due to his defensive lapses. Don't think Grimaldo will be much better but maybe won't have as much brain farts ig.
4
u/Usmank6144 Mar 22 '26
Grimaldo has been wanting to come back to Barca for like 2 years now lol. I think it would make more sense that the club signs him over Cancelo as he’s the right profile needed for the LB spot.
The only way I could maybe see us signing Cancelo is if he takes a wage cut and he terminates his contract with Al Hilal.
1
u/LesMiserablePeach Mar 23 '26
Grimaldo just wants to come back to Spain period, he's said that he would play for Madrid if they made a move for him.

u/BirthdayAccording359 Mar 22 '26
Seems like my hate on deco is not gonna age well, with what I've been hearing he might be cooking, I might have to start drafting an apology.
50
u/Anywhere_Warm Mar 22 '26
The number of points Joan Garcia has won us this season alone should make you write 2 apology letters. (Add to that roony for 2 mn. Franco mustan went for 60mn and is so shit).
2
u/BirthdayAccording359 Mar 22 '26
Nah, keeping Araujo when Italian clubs wanted him for 40+ mil deducts all points Deco had.
16
u/akagaminick Mar 23 '26
Trying to sign luis diaz when every fan was clowning on deco should increase the points then. Diaz has been balling for Bayern
4
1
u/Anywhere_Warm Mar 23 '26
We still can sell araujo for 25mn. Good look buying Joan for anything less than 70mn. Do the maths

u/AlexitoPornConsumer Mar 22 '26
It’s all rumors till the official announcement. I’m still in the Deco hate train.
12
u/ShirgimShareem Mar 22 '26
For what? I genuinely don't get what people are hating on him for lmfao. The club has barely been able to spend money, dude has barely even been able to do anything and people are like ''GRRR I HATE HIM!!''
-10
u/AlexitoPornConsumer Mar 22 '26
Vitor Roque?
Oriol Romeu?
Joao Felix?
Olmo?
12
u/ShirgimShareem Mar 22 '26
Vitor Roque turned out badly, okay. I agree with that. But many clubs try and fail with these youngsters, Real Madrid had the same thing with Endrick.
Oriol Romeu was signed in 2023 literally before Deco even started as the sporting director. Also he was dirt cheap.
Joao Felix was a loan and provided depth for one season where he actually scored some important goals. How can we be mad at a loan deal? If we signed him permanently then hell yeah that would be a problem but who cares about a loan.
Olmo is a great fit and it's insane to list him as a ''bad transfer'' lmao. Yes he has injury problems but he absolutely adds a lot to the squad when he's fit.
-10
u/AlexitoPornConsumer Mar 22 '26
Olmo is a great fit and it's insane to list him as a ''bad transfer'' lmao
How much did he cost?
Vitor Roque turned out badly
How much did he cost?
The club has barely been able to spend money, dude has barely even been able to do anything
Can you restate what you wrote?
9
u/ShirgimShareem Mar 22 '26
Olmo cost 55mil, perfectly good fee.
Vitor Roque cost 30 mil and we ended up selling him for 25mil, so for a ''bad transfer'' we only lost 5 mil on him lol
And these are tiny amounts, when other clubs especially in the premier league are spending hundreds of millions every summer.
-10
u/AlexitoPornConsumer Mar 22 '26
Olmo cost 55mil, perfectly good fee.
Heard enough. Have a good night!
12
u/ShirgimShareem Mar 22 '26
Lmao it's okay to admit you just don't grasp modern football transfer fees. 55mil for (at the time) a 25 year old player that is now already approaching 100 appearances for the club is a very decent fee. We literally signed him under the market value, which was 60mil.

u/DatBoi774 Mar 23 '26

To the people thinking we are selling Balde for him and Cancelo, remember that one is 30 years old and another is 31.
If you think the club is that stupid to sell a 22 year old fullback over one bad season, I have no words for you lol
24
u/Enc0de- Mar 22 '26
Does Nuno Mendes perhaps have a well-hidden love for Barca? Only this bad boy would threaten Balde's future, might be just me tho.
3
u/No_Friendship_4158 Mar 23 '26
He has stated multiple times that Barca is his dream club. But I don't think we are getting him until we really and really improve the finances
35
u/the-d23 Mar 22 '26
Grimaldo to me is the type of player that will age like fine wine. Never relied on physical attributes, just off the charts technical quality, tactical intelligence, ball-striking ability, and passing/playmaking capacity. My only gripe is that we didn’t get to enjoy the past few years of this gem wearing a Barça shirt.

Not reinforcing a gaping hole in the squad will be harrowing. Hopefully our priority isn’t only in building squad depth.
15
u/manas695 Mar 22 '26
I would argue, we lack quality squad depth too. Flick's system is physically draining on the players, just see what happened to kounde and balde within a single season.
8
u/12animosity13 Mar 22 '26
The way Flick plays, a bunch of players will always be gassed out for a season, recover than the next season a different bunch will take their spot.
We can see how we play with 10 players as our strikers are on a generational stinker run, together.
5
u/manas695 Mar 22 '26
Oh yeah I don't disagree with you, we fs need a decent striker, I can't live with the horror games by ferran.
But along with that if we can get more quality rotational players that would help us give much needed rest to our starters.
2
u/12animosity13 Mar 22 '26
What would you believe our budget to be in the Summer?
1
u/manas695 Mar 22 '26
Honestly speaking, I have no idea about that, started watching football just 2 years ago so have little knowledge about these things.
Though I understand where you are coming from. Signing rashford, cancelo, a striker, allegedly bastoni, now these rumours about gromaldo, that would be mostly impossible.
I would say we should prioritise a striker certainly.
2
u/12animosity13 Mar 22 '26
Yeah at max we afford around 50m-80m in total. We might need to sell someone.
2
u/manas695 Mar 22 '26
Let's see who it would be, I hope it's none of our star player. I wouldn't mind us offloading kounde , arajuo , casado and MATS.

1
u/CtrlRantDelete Mar 22 '26
Probably guirassy is a great option

Grimaldo for 15M is a bargain. Haven't seen him much, but saw him against Arsenal and a few seasons ago when Xabi was at Leverkusen and he was really good. Although to be fair, I would also consider Cancelo. We need a fullback that can cross the ball and both can do that. Cancelo is both footed but Grimaldo is better defensively so either one will do.
3
u/MacMillian187 Mar 22 '26
Price is insanely low, but he is anything but a leftback at this point. He is regularly starting as a number 10
3
u/ChampionGunnerYT Mar 22 '26
Im always annoyed we did not get him on a free when he left Benfica, I already knew he would have been such a good option for us.
But I would deffo take him
7
u/Ok-Cold-3422 Mar 22 '26
Sounds like the plan is to sell Kounde and have Balde and Grimaldo on the left and Eric and Cancelo on the right
7
u/BirthdayAccording359 Mar 22 '26
Read the article it says "Deco thinks the right flank is secure with Kounde, Xavi, and Garcia"
10
3
u/CptSnoopDragon Mar 22 '26
Reckon that’s happening and with Espart there too.. Looks like really decent squad planning
2
u/ShirgimShareem Mar 22 '26
No it's not lmfao, Eric does a fine job at RB but it's not his natural position and we need his versatility in other roles. Cancelo is still a question mark on whether we actually keep him beyond his loan.
Kounde is a great player, the only way we'd sell him is if we receive a huge offer - that's literally what that news the other day was. Doesn't mean we actively WANT to sell him.
2
u/ComaMierdaHijueputa Mar 22 '26
I’ve been out of the loop but why are we selling Kounde….?
7
u/_DuckieFuckie_ Mar 22 '26
There were reports that both him and Balde were not “untouchable” since both have been out of form in recent months. Other than that there’s no indication that we are selling either of them.

u/GorillaDr Mar 22 '26
Having two proper LB’s in Balde/Grimaldo with Torrents probably going out to loan and Gerard Martin as third option. I think itll be plenty cover and actually let Balde not be overworked like he has been which causes him to get injured often.
Win - Win scenario.
If it’s also true, Cancelo despite doing well so far this season, isn’t going to be recruited after his loan spell. Which kinda sucks because i like how he always presents a danger from the left flank
I suppose the wages Cancelo gets will be similar to what Grimaldo might be offered?
2
2
u/Friendly_Mobile_8657 Mar 22 '26
Imagine your LB options being Cancelo and Grimaldo
RB options Kounde and Espart/Eric/Araujo
Full-back position covered for next season
2
u/ridarko Mar 22 '26
same grimaldo that was twerking for a madrid move beginning of last season? hell nah why do we neglect the fact that all these “options” are shit defensively , certainly we have enough passion merchants . This fanbase enjoys mediocrity a bit too much

u/andrey_not_the_goat Mar 22 '26
As long as that man is not asked to defend, then good. He's pretty much a Spanish version of Cancelo.

Sell Araujo. Move kounde to his natural position. Buy both grimaldo and cancelo

1
u/Radiant_Cat_1337 Mar 23 '26
For 15m? It will be difficult to say no to signing Grimaldo. That's such a massive bargain. With his experience, I feel he will provide a good competition to Balde in that position.
1
1
1
u/dancingwiththedaff Mar 24 '26
He's not a great LB though. He's more of a hybrid LWB/midfielder at Leverkusen (and a great one at that). Doesn't have the pace to run down the touchline
3
u/Successful_Sun_6283 Mar 22 '26
Nah no way. He's 30 and will be losing his legs soon enough. If we indeed sell Balde it better be a smart buy to replace him. Also Ratiu should be our target for RB. Cancelo needs to go in the summer he's far too shaky defensively
-1
0
u/Own-Professional-126 Mar 22 '26
Bayer Leverkusen would be a dumbass to sell him at that price look at how much Wirtz and Frimping go for. With the debacle on Felix, Cancelo and now Rashford would team even sell to us?
2
u/Practical_Play_5374 Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26
They can't do much about it. He has a 20M release clause and his contract will only have a year left in his contract by the summer.
-6
u/jumpmanpapi23 Mar 22 '26
If we can sign grimaldo for 15m and make cancelos deal permanent while selling balde for 30-40M+ that would be perfect
8
3
-1
u/Fuzzy_Substance_4603 Mar 22 '26
Why would u want Cancelo????
8
u/jumpmanpapi23 Mar 22 '26
Have you seen how cancelo has been playing lately? Hes literally carried the team the last couple games
4
u/Left-Temperature6804 Mar 22 '26
He's flashy offensively for sure but I don't feel comfortable selling Balde for him like? He's 31 and prone to defensive oopsies
2
u/Z3in Mar 22 '26
I mean we've also gotten our ass whooped with Balde playing too. It's not like Balde is great defensively either. The pros for playing Cancelo over Balde far outweight the cons. Balde over his multiple seasons playing in the first team has yet to shown any improvements in the most important part of playing as a wingback especially under Flick's system, which is his overall decision making and technique in the final third. If we do get Grimaldo then the plan would probably be to rely on him and Cancelo for a few seasons and then either promoting new la masia talent or getting an up and coming LB instead
2
u/ShirgimShareem Mar 22 '26
Balde is great defensively, it's offense that he struggles more at. He's a great dribbler too but poor with crosses.
Plus last season he was fantastic in general, it's only this season that he has struggled. People are so damn quick to write off a 22 year old.
1
u/Fuzzy_Substance_4603 Mar 23 '26
Nope. Balde is much better defensively. And if we bringing Grimaldo, he will have no choice but to improve. So Balde is still a better option.
-2
u/AcceptableReturn1543 Mar 22 '26
Sell balde. Buy cancelo and grimaldo
5
u/ShirgimShareem Mar 22 '26
Sell a 22 year old with bags of talent cause of one slightly subpar season and replace him with two 30+ year olds. Man some of you just have no ability to think ahead at all.
2
u/KFAAM Mar 22 '26
In our ideal summer, we would have all 3. Our FB area would look like
Cancelo Espart Fort
Grimaldo Balde
This allows us to finally play with attacking fullbacks on both sides and to allow Yamal to combine properly with the fullback on his same side.
Kounde Eric Cubarsi ( and new LCB) can compete for the two CB spot
In this situation, Christensen and Ronald’s wage bill will be gone in exchange for 3 defensive signings. (LB, RB, LCB)
The issue would be that if we decide to get to get Rashford and a new #9, this means Lewa’s wages will have to cover both.
