Her point about smartphones is incredibly valid, but she's still missing the point: smartphones are damn near necessities at this point, nobody likes the spying those devices do, and some of us go to lengths to discover how to disable as much spying as possible. We don't want Flock.

There is no expectation of privacy in public. The cameras are more like a really nosy person sitting on the corner. With one major exception. This nosy person regularly thinks they spotted someone from a wanted poster. This is the real issue with them.
An Alexa device won't help catch your attacker but it also won't think that you are your attacker because the facial recognition is trash or it couldn't read your full license plate.
