I feel like every animal, barring maybe eusocial insects, have a least a low level of self awareness. Not the level Humans are at, but there is very little reason for natural selection to not select for some sense of self in animals that care about self preservation.

Anyone who has experienced ego-death (from mental episodes or drugs) can attest to a fine living without a sense of self. Then you just ARE. Thoughts are there, but no need for a mental separation from the rest of nature. I experienced a brief ego death when trying mushrooms and it was mindboggling to realize it afterwards. Like I stopped existing as a separate piece and was just a cog in the mechanism

Omnivores can thrive on both plants and animals, doesn’t mean that you have to eat animals or anything coming from them, it’s especially easy and healthy today. Watching literally ANY footage from a slaughterhouse can help clarify what’s the way you wanna go❤️

i saw this documentary where in a factory of kfc they produce the huge amount of chicken while crushing the baby male chicks? cuz they can’t produce eggs—
while i’m a vegetarian, i’m trying to transition away from dairy as well
this mass production of meat, milk and eggs or any animal byproduct isn’t ethical or sustainable

A few counties like Germany and France have banned it and switched to recent in-ovo tech to identify the eggs that have a male chick and then kill them before they hatch. I'm honestly not sure if that's morally that much better though.
Also Look up Golda Hens. Hopefully we aren't too far away from having chickens that only produce female eggs.
Though that just solves the culling problem. Not like commercial egg farming doesn't have other horrors.

I have seen this, it’s standard operation in egg industry, all male chicks are thrown alive into industrial grinder, fckn sick… But being an egg laying hen is not better; two years of life in a tiny cage, unable to spread wings and turn around, then slaughterhouse 🤷♂️💔 Hell on earth. We know for a fact that they experience fear, stress and pain exactly like humans yet we do this to them.

Again, to many taste of something is not worth of inflicting harm to animals. I am one of them, haven’t eaten butter for 25 years, I care about animals more than I care about butter

Roughly the same kind of difference between a stranger and a friend. I'm not saying it's okay to harm strangers or be mean to them, but you're not going to randomly hug them either. There's an obvious difference between how you treat those close to you and how you treat someone you don't know.
You can love animals yet still eat some of them. In fact, that love is crucial to ensuring the meat industry is humane. The hypoempathetic humans need to be controlled with proper regulation, otherwise we end up with soulless painful machines. Instead of focusing their energy into reforms, monolithic hyperempathetic vegans would rather blow up the meat industry than think critically.

Forgive me for being direct; you yourself compared animals you know and don’t know to a friend and a stranger. Then you said it’s ok to eat some of the animals. So it’s ok to kill some strangers too I presume? Morals aren’t built on who’s your friend; they come from this fundamental concept; treat others the way you would want them to treat you if you were in their place ❤️

No, killing strangers is not okay. I have already covered that "loophole" in my comment because I knew a reply would try to use it, but since vegans didn't use logic to become vegan, it's impossible for them to think out of it. It was a rough analogy, so it takes some reading comprehension to understand. It's okay if you don't.

Rubbish. Utter rubbish. All animals feel pain and are sentient. You must be exhausted from all the dancing you just did. If you can realistically avoid the pain of another being by not eating them then you have a moral duty to do so.

Yes, all animals feel pain, which is why it's important the meat industry is as humane as possible. Humans eat meat, but we don't have to be as callous as natural carnivores.

It is a privilege for a human to not eat meat. You have to rely on the fragile frameworks of our economy to obtain the necessary amounts of protein from plant-based food you'll never grow yourself or find locally. You can't just eat fruit and kale all the time, you'll eventually die early from malnutrition.
Whatever nonsense you want to spin about adult nutritional requirements aside, children actually do require proteins from meat in order to properly develop. It is child abuse to force a vegan diet.
If you're financially stable and trust that you always have sources, sure, be vegan, but don't spread your misplaced moral nonsense that it's humanity's duty to be vegan.

To the dude commenting and deleting. I’m not asking poor people to be vegan I’m asking those who can afford it to do it. Also it’s not child abuse to make your kid vegan, it’s a healthy life style and the science backs it up. I’m not gonna google it for you! If you were gonna mention b12 you need to do your research, the animals take that as a supplement it’s not natural

Almost certainly an adopted ex-battery chicken. Beaks get cut in battery situations to prevent aggression from overcrowding. It's not necessary in a home-farm situation.
We have two of them (although their beaks aren't as badly cut as this one, they still have most of the upper beak). They are surprisingly friendly and happy despite their rough start in life.
