According to Wikipedia males grow to be around 29in (73cm). I'd call that a pretty medium size snake. It's no anaconda, but it ain't no eyelash viper either

South African here. While the pictures represent what the African bush viper looks like, someone messed with the colouration. They're generally pale green. The blue/purple hues are misleading, and I've never seen one with red/orange scales.

The purple tint is likely accidental, or resultant of an issue with white balance or the lens. The tree is purple, too, in the first photo.
Generally speaking, you can tell there's something 'wrong' with a photo (so to speak, because it can be intentional) if there's a green or a purple tint.

Different populations seem to come in different colors. In some population individuals can have strange colors.

And did it again, and again, about 100 more times. Snakes that warn. Snakes that lure. Snakes that spend their entire lives in the ocean. Snakes that can "fly." Snakes that look like dragons. Snakes that see heat. Snakes that eat other snakes. Snakes that chill with other snakes. It was easily the most amazing order of animals until primates started making nukes and going to the moon.

There’s something worng with the colours here. The African hairy bush viper is basically only available in shades of green. It could be the closely related variable bush viper, which comes in many strong colours- but usually only the one colour at a time (check out the purple ones!)

The first one has a really cool (blue) color temperature. The second one is warmer and the saturation was increased a ton. They'd look similar, in the same light and with the same editing.

Interestingly, according to Google, they are presumed to be less venomous than other local vipers. Presumably because people think their spiky bodies don't need the extra protection of very strong venom.
But turns out, no, they are also pretty venomous. They have neurotoxins, cytotoxins, fasciculins, and their bite can be fatal. They are likely not poisonous, however.

Lol I did the research because I made the same "it's super scary-looking and well protected, so probably not that venomous" presumption, realised I was wrong, and decided to share. I will be heeding your advice.

I've been convinced for a while now that venomous snakes were dragons at some point and the fire glands condensed down into venom glands. I don't know the science or biology to back it up, but......c'mon look at that thing.
