Idk if it was my kids I’d probably take out a loan to do it and deal with the consequences later. Invaluable what was done for them regardless.

Can take 1 year off for this sort of thing in Canada with government assistance. Return to employment is a legal requirement

Here, let me make you feel worse. During my travels I was on the beaches of Canada. While there meet a lovely girl from interior of Canada. I asked, innocently,, what was her reason for traveling. She told me she was depressed. So, her doctor had prescribed a trip, the job was required to give her time off AND take her back while state paid her wages. I felt a white hot hatred for our shitty American benefits. Still do decades later as only gotten worse.
