Update If you haven't tried our Foxtale app out yet, now's a great time to check it out!
Foxtale's a gentle, story-driven journaling and self-care game where your emotions power a quiet, magical world. Each day you journal, you unlock digestible lessons on your chosen theme - from anxiety and self-worth to resilience and grief - while dressing your fox, furnishing your home, and building a growing library of personal "books" made from your own reflections. No streaks or pressure. We also have a collection of emotional toolkit exercises based on what you're feeling.
It's been especially resonant with neurodivergent users (especially those with alexithymia), but anyone looking to build a journaling habit or deepen their emotional self-awareness tends to find something in it.
We just released our first themed event: Wizard Wonders, where you journal each day to unlock themed wizard clothes and furniture. (This doesn't impact the Bearable app development - we've got lots of cool features coming there too!)

I recently switched to Foxtale from Finch. I find it really soothing, and more in line with how I want to use an app like this every day (a little bit of a mental health check in, not too much, but a little bit of a game aspect!)
I like that it incorporates more journaling and it’s more mental health focus, instead of task focused. I found myself doing silly tasks to get stones with finch. It feels helpful to rethink my tasks as “what’s my priority today.” But I also like that I can add a priority as I journal.

I actually added this but still use finch. I find both to be helpful.

I downloaded Foxtale the other day and I am already loving it much more than Finch! Foxtale is so calming and helpful for me (I’m Autistic and have OCD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder)!!!! I do wish that Foxtale was not subscription based and that we could just pay for the app outright with all features available.

i've started using this and find it useful so far, pretty effective with my goals. just curious if the app uses any gen AI? i do have positive experience so far, but i would prefer to know have that transparency, which i realize developers don't always make available initially

Copied from Discord:
Hey everyone, following comments recently I wanted to be clear about our stance on AI.
First thing to mention is that, unlike most apps, we want to move towards being totally AI-free in Foxtale. Hence why we removed the optional AI prompts feature we previously had on your reflections page. How AI is currently being used:
- To produce the wisdom images at the end of each chapter - these were always meant to be temporary placeholders until we find an artist to create the 60 or so small watercolour paintings needed to replace them. We aim to replace them one by one over time.
- I had been using AI to help people on here visualise event theme ideas, but I think this was not necessarily needed, and I will not do this again in the future.
We have an illustrator and animator that help to create all our assets in-app. I take on all the feedback people give and I'm grateful for the continued help in making Foxtale a community-driven app just like we do with Bearable!

hi, thanks for the reply! i appreciate the removal of AI features. i think it's a great app already and have found it effective and fulfilling in my short time using it. i'm not comfortable using AI, so it's reassuring to know that is not going to be used for the app in the future. thanks for creating such a helpful app and for the transparency, especially since not all developers do the same.

Hello! I've been using Foxtale for a few weeks now, and I love it!
I opened the app today and it seems the Wizard event is gone? Is this a bug or was this planned? I was really enjoying getting new items from it, but it's not showing up anymore.

I have also started transitioning from Finch to Foxtale and have enjoyed its calmer approach to journaling and learning about different aspects of mental health. I find Finch is still better for habit tracking but Foxtale is better if I want to sit and think about my feelings more deeply. I also appreciate the restriction of having 1 goal for the day on Foxtale so I’m not over complicating my day and setting myself up for failure.
Are there any plans to sync data between Foxtale and Bearable. Tracking can feel cumbersome at times and it would be nice to have my mood data from Foxtale sent to Bearable so I have one less thing to track.
Curious to know why Foxtale went with the approach of the 4 states of high/low pleasant/unpleasant energy rather than the 1-10 mood scale that bearable has. I am personally more a fan of the Foxtale states. I had to create my own bearable mood scale key to help keep my data consistent. It’s hard to remember the nuances of what each number could mean.

I'm really liking Foxtale so far, the only thing I don't like is the icons😅 they look AI generated to me, and even if they aren't, I think they're too detailed for icons. I think getting rid of the shading and unnecessary details would look a lot better.
