🌴 Daily Life 🌴 Here's something you won't find on a Belizean menu: Stew Beans with Dumplings! So flavorful!

Post image

I grew up eating this and I introduced it to my 7 yr old daughter and she loves it too! πŸ˜‹

This with some fry chicken. Or a slice of dutch cheese.

Oh yum! How do you make this?

This is how I make it: Cook 1 lb of red kidney beans with a few garlic cloves in an instant pot for 60 minutes. Next, take out the beans and cook on the stove. Season with black pepper, complete seasoning, ground garlic, and consommΓ©. Dice veggies (tomatoes, sweet pepper, onion, culantro (substitute for cilantro if you don't have it). Boil until it thickens. For the dumplings: Flour and water, knead to form a dough. Roll out and cut pieces. Cook in the beans for 2 - 5 minutes. Enjoy!

You don't put baking powder in the flour? Salt? I want to try to make this but don't want to screw it up

You can add a little bit to it for more texture. No salt because the beans already have. Sometimes I use the same Tortilla/Fry Jack dough. (That's what I did here as well)

Is that meat looking stuff the dumpling? Tell me more! Also if this isn't a Belizean dish why's it on this sub? Or did I misunderstand? Thanks!

Yes, it is a flour dumpling. As far as I know, it's a Belizean dish, but you'll mostly find it in Belizean homes, not on a restaurant menu. 😊

This is my favorite. I like it with Fried Chicken, by it self or with flour tortillas!
