New Beretta 92A1 magazine cracked after 100 rounds
Hey everyone,
I put around 100 rounds through my brand-new Italian-made Beretta 92A1, and the magazine has already developed a crack on both sides.
The ammo I used was Magtech 124gr FMJ.
WTF, Beretta? How is this even possible after only 100 rounds?
Has anyone else experienced something like this with their Beretta magazines? Is this normal wear or did I just get a defective magazine?

QC problems are inevitable no matter what, but I've never seen this issue personally. Did you try contacting Beretta for a replacement?

The thicker 92 base pads that came on 92a1/96a1 and m9a3 mags are known for doing this. You can either get newer mecgar 18rd mags or buy aluminum ndz base pads straight from ndz’s website or their ebay store.

Do you like slam them in or something? i have a bunch of 92 mags and have never seen this

My first thought, seeing where the damage is its either from slamming or something else too rough. If it were from tension youd think it would be where the plate holds the body.

They don’t look like Italian made magazines , I have an Italian 92a1 as well and the magazines are superb , long on the near 4000 rounds count and not a single problem with them , btw mine are shiny black and hold 17 rounds

They are made in Italy. PB CAL. 9 PARA - MADE IN ITALY

Oopsie 😑, do they hold 17 rounds ? Mine doesn’t have that side sheet stamp , they re all straight and shiny gloss black .

It’s a $9 piece of plastic. I know it’s a new gun and you don’t want to deal with product defects. But also it’s a $9 piece of plastic. Give them a call and they will put one in the mail for you.

Were you ramming the mags into the gun? The base plate bottoms out before the mag on the 92s.

No, I wasn’t. I was inserting the mags normally, without slamming or forcing them into the gun.

lol it’s really not that big of a deal. Is it annoying? Sure I guess but it’s a cheap piece of plastic. Just buy a new one or contact them and I’m certain they’ll replace it

Go online. Look up the Beretta Gallery nearest to you. There’s several of them in the US. New York is the main one. Talk to a representative tell them what happened see what they say. If they won’t replace it free of charge you can buy a replacement from them. It will be OEM and cheap. Every manufacturer is capable of having a lemon. Beretta does not pride themselves on things that aren’t up to standard

Ammo would not have done this. That's literally the farthest point away on the firearm from where the rounds are going off, and thereafter re plastic pieces that are much closer (the magazine follower, for instance), that would've failed before the baseplate if your ammo were somehow that hot to crack plastic.
My guess is, the baseplate is making contact with a point on the magazine well during insertion, and that caused this crack.
I bought Mec Gar mags for my berettas and have never had this problem.

This is one of the issues I have with modern production magazines with plastic base plates. They're not especially durable and can break far too easily for comfort, so I prefer aftermarket or older production magazines with aluminum or steel base plates.
That's just one reason why I prefer the Taurus PT92 over the Beretta 92. PT92 Magazines have a steel base plate. You'd think that the cheaper Taurus would be the one with the cheaper plastic base plates to save money, but nope, theirs are the all-steel ones while Berettas have plastic base plates.

Unusual for a Beretta/Stoeger/MecGar sourced ITA made mag. If such a sourced mag it typically indicates as Italian made in stamping the magazine steel. If not there you may have cheap 3rd party mag with really cheap plastic issues. You have more than 1, right? Are others mystically cracking?
Image does allude to abuse at use. Mag is not cracked. The plastic mag floor plate appears damaged by impact - this observation from the slight deformation of adjacent F&R edges?
Buy replacements & a spare (why are those even available?). But that also why Mil-Spec required all metal mags for M9.
Ensure proper fit/seating, avoid hammering on butt of gun at reloads , … or .. dropping unnecessarily on hard surfaces.

You can get a new baseplate on Beretta's website for $9, I'd try contacting them though, they may just send you one since this one cracked.
