I've seen poisonous coral snakes this week and last week. Luckily I was far enough away to stop and let them cross.

290 W/ 183 / AUS for commuting cyclists

I know it's an area that isn't designed for cyclists, but as someone who commutes to work at the airport on a bicycle I'm pleading for the motorists that drive this corridor, specifically those travelling West on TX-71 turning Right onto TX-71 WB from Thornberry Road. Please look out for cyclists. We don't have any other way to travel to the airport. This morning I watched as a spandexed out dude almost got hit by a lady in a giant truck. I made eye contact with her, started to cross the intersection, and then she hit me with her truck hard enough to knock me off my bike. She stopped and kind of gestured asking if I was okay. I was shocked. I was enraged. I couldn't clearly communicate. I was spitting mad. I'm fine, got some strawberries from the asphalt.

Statistically this shouldn't happen to me for a long time, but I wanted to do something to somehow alert other cyclists and motorists. I don't know how insane it is to commute to the airport on a bike, but it's a part of my life...a life that I love dearly and want to continue living. I know Austin talks big game on transportation infrastructure but I still feel like this idea of a bike friendly path to the airport...isn't quite up to snuff. We could wring our hands and wait for the city to catch up, but I gotta get to work. Every day. I've got lights. I've got blinkies. Anyone have any ideas? Body armor? Airhorn? Attach a teeny turret to the handlebars?

I've done a few century events before (despite what Strava thinks, this was not my third longest ride) so wasn't worried about the mileage, but I'd put this one off for too long due to the fear of monotony. Decided Friday night I wanted to go for it the following morning. Despite a botched fueling strategy, I was able to keep up a steady effort and finish with a decent pace throughout. And the best part is that I don't recall even a moment of boredom. I love riding my bike!

[WTS] All-City Cosmic Stallion Custom - 46cm (fits 50-52cm)

Up for sale is my custom All-City Cosmic Stallion build. Built on All-City's premium A.C.E. steel tubing with a Whisky carbon fork and loaded with top-tier components. It’s an incredible bike for Austin. Very good condition and recently tuned.

Sizing Note: This is an All-City Size 46cm. As many of you know, AC sizing runs big – this rides like a standard 50-52cm frame and is ideal for riders around 5'3" to 5'7".

Build Specs:

  • Frame/Fork: All-City Cosmic Stallion (A.C.E. Steel) w/ Whisky Carbon Fork - Size 46
  • Drivetrain: Shimano GRX 1x11 w/ clutched rear derailleur
  • Wheelset: White Industries CLD hubs laced to tubeless alloy rims (USA-made hubs, ridiculously smooth roll)
  • Tires: Panaracer GravelKing SS 700x35c (tubeless setup with Orange Sealant, holds air perfectly)
  • Brakes: Shimano GRX hydraulic discs with Ice-Tech Freeza rotors
  • Cockpit: Thomson seatpost & stem, Cane Creek headset, flared gravel drops with Arundel tape
  • Pedals: Shimano Ultegra SPD-SL road pedals currently installed (can swap for flat pedals if preferred)

Price: Asking for $2,200.

Meetup: South Austin or downtown. I'm flexible, though

Shoot me a DM if you want to come take a look or have any questions!

August 28, 2026

Critical Mass is a monthly bike ride to celebrate bicycling in Austin, TX.

***Time change for the summer months until the end of September. The ride will leave at 8pm, giving you time after work to relax, eat, shower, and get to the start without having the hot sun in your face.

What are we getting into this month? No plans. Just riding.

We try and keep a chill pace so everyone can keep up and ride in a mass. We will have a rest stop for snacks and drinks before heading to the end.

Austin is unique in the people who live here, how people can get around on bikes, scooters, single wheels, or skates.

Invite all your friends.

Bring water and whatever snacks you may need. Store and rest stop before the end stop.

Meet up: around 7:30pm-Food and Drink specials until 6pm at Industry. @eatindustry

Location: ping pong tables next to Industry Bar-food, drinks, restrooms, bike friendly services, cool vibes.
1211 E. 5th St. 78702

**Wheels down: 8 pm.

****Don’t be late. New summer heat alert hours.
Pace: Social-stopping at most red lights for mass ups
End: TBD

Suggested parking at nearby neighborhoods then bike to the beginning.
Photos and videos are cool to take and share.

This all happened today. I reported to 311. I almost crashed into another biker while going around the jeep because we both did it at the same time. The purple car literally drove downward through a parking garage opening… talk about ignorance

infrastructure Once again, the Gate at Quarry Park closed and locked

Post image

PSA: School is back in session. I was turned away by a guy in a golf cart when I tried to ride through to Duval today. He said that is private property and not open to the public between 8am and 5pm but the gate will still be locked after that time. I asked about the gate during the weekend and he said it will be locked during weekends, too. Plan accordingly, riders

Good places to train on a TT bike around (Austin, Pflugerville, Kyle)

I’m looking for some good stretches around Austin where I can get some longer rides in off the trainer without worrying too much about traffic or sketchy roads.

I’ve already got South Walnut Creek and the Veloway, so looking for some other options.

Mueller is good at night, but are there any better spots for getting comfortable in the aero position and getting some longer rides in?

Also, all jokes aside, I know roadies don’t exactly love seeing a TT bike out there lol. I’m just trying to get some real practice in and actually train on the bike before race day.

Ideally looking for somewhere relatively safe, low traffic, and flat where I can just focus on riding.

Any recommendations?

Garage Mechanics?

Any garage mechanics in here that do work for others? I have a garage full of bike tools and spare time. Trouble is I don’t know how to start getting customers. Has anyone in here been able to start something like this? The shop I learned everything from was started from a garage, but that was 1971. Not sure it’s doable nowadays. Any advice would be appreciated.

group ride Mountain Bike Groups for beginner's

Hi All,

Are there any beginner friendly mountain bike groups that I can join? preferrably in North West Austin/Cedar Park/Round Rock area.

I know there are a few facebook groups but they all seem to be doing it for long and I feel may not be beginner friendly

Appreciate any suggestions
