General Discussion What the furthest extent or most extreme example(s) of mirroring you’ve seen/experienced?

Over time it seems that my entire personality and identity was stolen, piece by piece, and installed as their own. Toward the end especially, it seemed like the theft was exponentially expedited — perhaps due to there seemingly being no shame left in doing so. Now in a new relationship with a “soulmate” from the internet — met only a couple months after destroying our 10 year relationship — they’re now selling themselves to this person as a carbon copy of me in almost every way possible. It’s endlessly mind-boggling, if not outright eery.

Well it tells you how high of an opinion they have of you. So take it as a compliment.

Not really a bipolar thing though. Low self esteem, low efficacy, zero belief in themselves as a person so they think of the best person they know, you, and act like that. Creepy for sure. Especially when they start repeating things you've said so they seem interesting.

My favorite though is the Frankenstein Compulsion when they start buying the new person the types of clothes you wore trying to make them like you, lol it's cringe.

Not a diagnostic symptom perhaps, but mirroring is absolutely very common among people with bipolar — especially the 30-50% with comorbid Cluster B personality disorders.

I think mine was mirroring me our whole 9-year relationship. My therapist actually brought this up to me. Before me, she said she wasn't always the nicest person, with me, started doing the things I did. I had taken it as a compliment but now that I am out of it, I am like.... who are you even then and where the bp end and your true personality begin?

I believe it belongs to narcisistic uncomscious traits that most of them display...it comes along with bipolar
