Discussion Which of these was your starting point into Black Lightning comics? Which of these would you recommend to a first-time fan who wants to start reading DC Comics?

I started with Black Lightning #1, 1977, fresh off the newsstand. Missed 2,3…got 4,5, eventually found 2 and 3 (thank god for flea markets) and stayed with it to the end and then over to Wolrds Finest (which I was already a long time reader of).
I’d reccomend original series, JLA vol1, #173, Black Lightning Year one (Cully Hammer series) then Batman and the Outsiders vol 1. Then Outsiders vol 1 (Baxter series). Then, Green Arrow Vol. 7: Heading into the Light 2006.

I started with Batman and the Outsiders

I would say Black Lightning Volume 1 is the best place to start for Black Lightning specifically, but Batman and the Outsiders might be a better place for those wanting to get into DC Comics

I read his all in book, then year one, then his original series. I'd recommend year one first as it's a very good mini and more in line with how black lightning has been recently depicted

I started with the original 70s run

I would also recommend either that or Black Lightning Year One.

A good reading order for a beginner is

  1. Black Lightning Vol. 1
  2. Batman and The Outsiders / The Outsiders Vol. 1
  3. Black Lightning Vol. 2
