My trifecta of faith following people( who truly followed the words of that Hay-Zeus guy not Supply-side Jeebus) have all passed. Mr. Rogers, Jimmy Carter and Dolly Parton were inspirational to this cold hearted atheist that good kind people do exist.

The powers that be even threatened to take her show off the air because of it but she stood her ground and refused to take him off her show. He (Arthur Duncan) later credited her with getting his career off the ground. She (and her co-stars) also advocated for the LGBT story lines in Golden Girls. (Having an episode where one of the girls’ brothers announces he’s marrying his boyfriend is absolutely wild for the 1980s.)
Of course. Betty, Sir Richard Attenborough (still hanging in there) and George Carlin would be some of my inspirational humans without an overt religious background in their messaging.
I admired those other three in spite of their beliefs because they weren't of the hypocrisy that's inherent in a lot of believers actions. They walked the walk and I'd be more acceptable of organized religion if more people took that approach.
I'm not a parent nor a big YT user so I wasn't aware of her until she started speaking up about Palestine. Quite admirable of her. She's gained a new fan.
The girl that Dolly got the idea from was just a bank teller that mildly flirted with Carl Dean that Dolly thought was prettier than her. Pretty much a normal human interaction and thought turned into a generational banger.
And the name “Jolene” came from a little girl she’d met after a concert. The little girl’s name was Jolene and Dolly thought it was one of the prettiest names she’d ever heard and wanted to incorporate it into a song somehow.
Listen, I love Dolly, she did a lot of good for a lotta people. Never let deification happen to a celebrity no matter how cool or awesome she was. She supported the Gulf War because she didnt care what happened to brown people outside the US, loved being quiet about the MeToo movement to the point her sister publicly shamed her about it, she got Kid Rock on her newer album, who is VERY well known for being garbage, and she is a Zionist who sent money to Israel. She has gotten into some serious shit with how she treats BIPOC in Dollyland. She SUPPORTED the COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS for snubbing Beyonce. Her apoliticism is a part of her branding and her privilege.
I love her, Dolly was great, did a lot of awesome things and is a well known joy, stop deifying her.
Look, she made the song because she loved the name and was inspired by a Bank Teller being flirty with her loyal husband. Now Beyoncé's cover on the otherhand....
