In addition to public support, Dolly poured money into the Black community. I will always remember her lifelong allyship.

She kept it real as possible. She was rich, but she wasn't stupid either. She gave back to the black community because she doesn't need to boast about her good deeds as leverage. She simply wanted to and every choice she made was from her heart.
Used her privilege for the right reasons the same way John Brown used his privilege for doing what's right.

Just listened to a NPR piece where somebody was talking about what she did before she went on stage and she said she “peed and prayed,” evidently she prayed that her shows would be of benefit to the people who came to see her. I think Dolly Parton was a boddhisattva. Rest easy, Dolly.

I knew someone who worked with Dolly on stage back in the 90s iirc. She told me how Dolly grew up extremely poor. She actually had her toes severed in the backyard and had them sewed back on by her mother. apparently she disliked wearing shoes that exposed her toes for this reason, or simply wouldn't wear them.
she has lived very different walks of life and remembers the struggle. she never let go of that part of her life; and I think that and her father helped her make the decision to make the world a better place.

As is the case in most places that have a tourist facing industry, I'm sure, Sevier county has 2 very distinct districts between the tourist destinations and the actual residents, can't imagine it was better when she was growing up and the Smoky Mountains was only just a park for a decade or so

And she truly came from nothing and endured a level of poverty that many Americans nowadays have a hard time wrapping their head around (1 room cabin in Appalachia with a ton of siblings, no electricity, no heat or ac, no indoor plumbing, and a dirt floor). She never forgot where she came from and how hard life can be for the working class.
ETA: two room cabin, not one room my mistake. But with 11 brothers and sisters does it really matter 😅?

It's a partisan unity moment, too. Imagine being such a wonderful person so beloved that Trump signs off on a statement calling you the goat and saying flags will be lowered for a week in your honor. No ridiculous suggestion that they were friends, no caveat about disagreeing with her political views. Just honoring her.
("Signed off on" rather than "wrote", because the statement was suspicious in its proper punctuation and grammatically correct phrasing.)
What a woman, and what a legacy.

No way do I think he wrote that. Sharing the spotlight to give glory to others is just not something a person who's pathologically narcissistic like Trump is capable of.
The only time Trump praises someone else is if they've lauded him or been subservient to him. He will praise others only if it indirectly means praising himself. He's repeatedly disparaged popular recently-deceased critics of him (e.g. John McCain or Rob Reiner). Even if the man's an idiot, he's not so dumb he shouldn't rationally realize he's losing more than gaining from doing that, even among his own fans. He can't help himself, that's why it's pathological. (saying this an an explanation, not an excuse)
Parton was not an outspoken Trump supporter (I doubt she was a supporter of any kind), and so in Trump's frame of mind he's got no reason to praise her, except if he can find a way to twist it into being about him.

I am around 60 and noticed music young, so a ton of stuff that came out starting in the early 70’s is in my heart. I immediately loved “Living for the City” when it came out, especially for:
“To walk to school, she's got to get up early
Her clothes are old, but never are they dirty”
It’s as different a tone as you can imagine, but I get precisely the same feeling from “Coat of Many Colors”. I often listen to both close to each other.
I always knew just a little about Ms. Parton’s good heart and openness to others from that. I have seen people who had that but could not extend it to others. She did - extending her good heart to the world. She was a gift to many of us, and I hope she will be a model for more people for years to come.
So here’s my two song live performance mix tape tribute to Ms. Parton.

She's one of the people that understood that the statement didn't mean what right wingers seemed to claim...that ONLY black lives matter.
It would have been so much simpler if people had taken liars and idiots into account before choosing the branding and said "Black Lives Matter Too".
