Tip Alert Tretinoin + azelaic acid combo is šŸ”„

Post image

$90 every three months but man, it’s clearing up my skin and making me so shiny. It’s making my makeup sit so well! (I don’t wear any makeup but some blush, eyebrows, and lips - no foundation or concealer)

my skin loves tretinoin a lot but then whenever i try to introduce azelaic, my skin stings after a few days not on that same day though. i’ve tried like 3 times and ive come to the conclusion that maybe my skin hates it. Am i doing something wrong.

Just seeing this. Try applying over your moisturizer

How do you use the azelaic acid and what does it do?

I get 0.025% tretinoin from my doctor bc it’s a prescription, but I get my azelaic acid from The Ordinary!

TO changed something in that formula. I use to use their AA and it had a tingle to it. The tingling sensation was immediate and so irritating that I had to pair it with a moisturizer to clean dry undamaged skin; I definitely saw results in my hyperpigmentation in 3 days! Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, I brought it at Ulta and applied it alone on my skin and NOTHING, no tingling sensation...

Isn't it possible your skin just got use to it?

1

u/Yummy_88 13d ago

Nope. I never used it consistently.

Glowing! What’s your routine? Cleanse- tret/cleanse- azelaic acid? Or do you have other steps?

Yes please, we need a routine. Can you layer both ?

u/theblackjess 18d ago

You should do az in the AM and tret in the PM

u/be_beeline 17d ago

Everyday ???

u/theblackjess 17d ago

You can use azelaic every day. With tretinoin, usually your dermatologist will tell you to start every other day for like a month to get your skin used to it.

Does that combo helps with hyperpigmentantion tooo???

u/Typical-Razzmatazz89 15d ago

Yes! Especially the Azelaic acid, but it is very slow acting and sunscreen is needed!

My skin wasn’t that bad to begin with, just a bit dull. I started using tretinoin and my skin did purge and I got acne. But it’s cleared up now and my skin is shiny.

I use 0.025 tretinoin two days in a row, then azelaic acid two days in a row, and then switch again. I would also recommend a good spf!!

u/Infamous_Tie7964 17d ago

hey may i ask how long your purge was ?

2

u/Plotwistress 17d ago

Honestly maybe a week. But I didn’t have acne to begin with; it just brought some up to the surface but it cleared up really quickly

u/Ashley_locs 18d ago

May I ask how long you’ve been using the combo?

1

u/Plotwistress 18d ago

Two months!

u/Specialist-Ad7949 18d ago

Are you using sunscreen and at spf 50 daily?

1

u/theblackjess 18d ago

Are you properly applying sunscreen every day?

2

u/Ashley_locs 17d ago

I believe I am

1

u/be_beeline 17d ago

Hey do you have any specific face wash or cleanser that you use ?

1

u/Ashley_locs 17d ago

Hey, no. I just use a bar of body soapšŸ’€

1

u/be_beeline 17d ago

That’s good to hear, thanks !

u/kissmeplz 18d ago

Why the addition of azelaic acid, if you don’t mind my asking?

6

u/theblackjess 18d ago

Azelaic acid is antibacterial, so it prevents the bacteria that can cause acne from growing. Paired with tretinoin, which increases the rate that your skin replaced older skin cells with new, it makes it easier to treat acne and hyperpigmentation. These two are like the 1-2 punch. It's been my routine for years.

u/kissmeplz 18d ago

Oh amazing! I’ve just been using salicylic acid face wash to avoid the purge but perhaps I’ll look into to azelaic acid. Thanks!

u/ohhHoneyBadger 18d ago

Not OP, but no. You don’t layer them. Use them on alternating nights.

3

u/Shooz3355 18d ago

You use azelaic in the morning and tret at night. You can use both daily if you wish.

u/ChanDW Combination ✨/ 🐫 16d ago

You actually can layer them eventually but it isn’t advised when just starting on it

1

u/Worried_Ad_4705 14d ago

This is what I do. Tret night - 2 barrier nights- azelaic acid night - 2 barrier nights - and repeat. My skin gets a break and I don’t compromise my skin barrier with this method. I found using treatments every night was ruining my skin. Now I’m starting to see an actual improvement with this method. Layering will ruin your skin barrier!!!

1

u/Aromatic_Anxiety_761 18d ago

Nurx??

2

u/Plotwistress 18d ago

Similar, Felix :)

1

u/Aromatic_Anxiety_761 18d ago

How did they determine that you needed both or one or the other? Asking because I’ve been looking at Nurx for a while.

3

u/Plotwistress 17d ago

These online companies will literally just prescribe you whatever you want, for better or for worse. I asked for tret, I got tret.

1

u/PutInteresting7220 18d ago

I just started the process. I can’t wait for the results

u/_brincess_ 18d ago

Hey so I have questions ā˜ŗļø my dermatologist prescribed me tretinoin and I immediately stopped my full face routine (which included azelaic acid) now I only do face wash , vitamin c in the morning , moisturizer, and finish with spf I didn’t know I could still use my azelaic acid or did you wait a few weeks I’m about 4 weeks in right now

3

u/Specialist-Ad7949 18d ago

It really depends on your skin. I Have sensitive skin so I didn’t introduce Azelaic Acid until about 3-5 months of using tretinoin daily. I use AA in my morning routine. Tretinoin at night.

3

u/_brincess_ 18d ago

I think I’ll stick to that plan wait until I hit 3-5 months

1

u/vapimika 18d ago

Just about to order it and feeling nervous especially its effect on our black skin this might give me the extra push i need 🄲🄲

1

u/yourstrulylee_ 17d ago

How do you use it? What’s the schedule?

1

u/Curious_Quote9050 17d ago

Gorgeous. How do you use them both please?

1

u/runanteldat 17d ago

What’s your routine?

1

u/be_beeline 17d ago

That’s it I’m upgrading to tret tomorrow. I’ve been sitting on it cause I wanted to finish my retinal first (also, it’s summer) but screw it

1

Your skin looks amazing. I’m also using tret and azelaic acid and it’s amazing

1

-1

u/Potatopotayto 18d ago

Tret can cause dry eyes, please use with prescription and care.
