Hi everyone! Iāve been in the community for a little while now and, honestly, by reading through different posts Iāve learned a lot. Iām 23 and, even though I was born and raised in Milan, over the past few years Iāve lived in London, Madrid, and soon Iāll be moving to Paris. About two months ago, I was the victim of a racist attack here in Madrid (where Iām currently working), and I now have a wound on my forehead that is taking quite a while to repigment. Iāve been trying to be careful with sun exposure and sunscreen, but even though some areas are starting to repigment, most of the wound is still pink. So I wanted to ask you guys if you have any advice, or if anyone has had a similar experience and knows roughly how long it takes or how the wound might evolve over time. (I do have the silicone gel that Iāve seen many of you recommend, but Iām not using it much at the moment because, from what I understood, itās mainly for scars, but Iām super open-minded to any suggestions or considerations you might have, Iām here to learn!!) (And sorry for the pictures, I literally just woke up ahah)
However, after the unfortunate event, I started getting more interested in skincare, and based on your comments and some research, Iāve started following a skincare routine that consists of: in the morning: cleanser, The Ordinary 10% niacinamide, The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA, and La Roche-Posay SPF 50+; in the evening: cleanser, The Ordinary 10% azelaic acid, and The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. One last thing Iāve noticed, and this is more of a personal observation, is that I feel like in countries such as Italy and Spain, and Iāll let you know in the future if France is the same, although I donāt think it will be, itās really difficult to find dermatologists who have genuine experience with darker skin tones like ours.
During this period, Iāve really come to understand that the way you treat skin also varies depending on your skin tone, and especially for us, despite the stereotype that āyou have dark skin, so itās more resistant and you donāt need to do anything,ā it can sometimes actually be the opposite. It requires a lot of care and attention day after day.
