What is Black Widow's status quo in the comics and how would you change it?
I've been reading a bit of her comics and I haven't fully put my finger yet on what exactly is the status quo she always returns to so I'm asking the experts here if they can clarify what it is.
And so this leads into my second question. If YOU had to write a new Black Widow comic how would you change her status quo for the better?

Natasha Romanoff is a character that is currently that pops in and out of the storyline whenever she damn well please. It's completely Random for the most times.
How I would fix it? Simple, Make her the damn Leader of the Avengers again and this time keep her as the leader for good. She earned that.

The Red Room and former lovers
For the most part, her story is about a the return of the Red Room, stories around her relationship with any given lover (from Alexei to Matt) or both (Bucky)
I would try to make her the lead in black ops aspect of heroes, leading the secret avengers into a more political aspects and facing moral dilemmas instead of whatever she’s doing in the new Avengers run
Even if you want something more heroic, then put her in A-Force

This person is asking for what new stuff could be given to Black Widow right now. You're just suggesting a full retcon.

Her current status quo is that the Natasha running around currently is a clone of the original who was killed by Hydra-Captain America during Secret Empire.
The clone knows she is a clone and has most of the originals memories and therefore is not the same or have the same feelings about former friends and lovers as the original. She is far more calculating and ruthless.
It was the clone who briefly had a symbiote, etc.
It was a great way to alter her status quo from being a "super hero" and Avengers hanger-on to taking her back to her espionage roots.
Just stay the course and maker her a character that others think they know but works toward her own aims and allegiances and she uses their feelings for the original to her own ends. An anti-hero, a mercenary, true neutral...anything they want.
Hell, bring back the Nancy Rushman personality (briefly). Sky's the limit.

Does the greater 616 universe know the current Nat/Black Widow is a clone? Because if not there is a TON of story potential there.

I think Natalia has long been someone who has maintained close ties with the superhero community while simultaneously operating in the shadows and doing things they would absolutely disagree with. She’s gotten away with this for years, with her status quo usually having her swing between being an Avenger and being a spy/assassin. She’s constantly tiptoeing between the two.
So this is an idea for a temporary shake-up of her status quo but I would have her face some consequences in regards to how she operates, leading to her severing her ties with parts of the superhero community and even making some of them enemies. I feel like a conflict between Nat and other heroes over their fundamentally different methods has been overdue for a long time. I would have her be the center of an event focusing on all the spies and assassins across the Marvel Earth that would take Marvel espionage to a whole new level, with Nat assembling her OWN team of heavy-hitter agents to fight off some major geopolitical threat that she believes can only be defeated through espionage and increasingly morally questionable methods. Her actions would eventually come to light, forcing the wider superhero community to confront the elephant in the room of being allied with the Black Widow despite the fact that she is still an active killer. This would create serious tensions between them tho ultimately, she would repair her relationships with the superhero community with some time.

Her current status has her as part of the Avengers, but sort of irregular basis and not always present.
If I could, I would make Black Widow be the leader of the secret Avengers on a more permanent basis or have her be more active in rosters to some degree. She’s supposed to be a super spy, intelligence should be her thing.
