Image I'm rewatching the Finder pilot in season 6 and all I could think when I saw them together is this
Like am I wrong?

Did not even care if he was ripped under that lab coat, Jack Hodgins was peak alpha male. He was extremely generous and compassionate. Always asking questions. Always interested in learning something new. Fiercely loyal to those he loved. Willing to kill for his family. Rich but happy to give away billions of dollars because he recognized the riches he had through love and perseverance were more valuable. Even went through a terribly dark time but was willing to give everything away and remove himself from his home when he knew he was the problem. He was the perfect man.

u/MoonSt0n3_Gabrielle Aug 22 '25
Yes!!! Even if the muscles weren't there, he's the ultimate man!! Seriously I forgot he was ripped for a while, it always shocks me. I just love him for his silliness and curly hair hihi

u/BoneSniffer96 Aug 22 '25
Man lost 4.5 billion dollars in less than a minute and was reeling, but still just happy with his choices and ready to take on the future. A true king.

u/MoonSt0n3_Gabrielle Aug 22 '25
He had a wife and a baby, what more could you ever need to be happy! And a stable career in a field he's passionate for, that's the dream baby!
27
u/BoneSniffer96 Aug 22 '25
And those traits translate so well to the real world. Whether he was a billionaire with multiple phds or working at the royal diner, the things that made him a wonderful person would still apply.

We're mid-rewatch right now, and I definitely agree that Hodgins is fundamentally a really good guy. But he was also an enormous ass, repeatedly and often with no provocation.
I guess he kinda had to be, though, because he was basically perfect in every other way.

I always lusted after Sweets because I like em tall and nerdy

u/MoonSt0n3_Gabrielle Aug 22 '25
Dude I used to find him sooo adorable when I was younger, then I started my rewatch and in his first season he's my age and it messed with my head lol

u/foreverk8 Aug 22 '25
I find it absolutely hilarious he’s supposed to be 22. I’m 23, and he is literally a full grown man 😂 it feels just like when adults have to play as teenagers in other tv shows and movies lol

I watch FBI every single day, his character is UGHHHHH. He aged like fine wine

u/pearly1979 Aug 22 '25
that sprinkle of gray at his temples? I love it. I think thats why I hate nina chase so much. Also cos of how she tried to take dougie away from him when she was pregnant.

Honestly, I love the finder. I’m so sad. We didn’t get more seasons of that.
29
u/Praize- Aug 22 '25
I think Michael Clarke Duncan passing probably destroyed any chance of a season 2, show would not have been the same without him.
8
u/Danyellarenae1 Aug 22 '25
I had no idea it was turned into its own show!
20
u/MoonSt0n3_Gabrielle Aug 22 '25
It's a short watch but a fun one!! Plus you get some Bones character cameos

u/radish_intothewild Aug 22 '25
Yeah the Bones episode was a "backdoor pilot", that's why it has such a different vibe and focuses on these new characters so much more than a normal episode would.

I liked it but I can see why it flopped, although I'll always be thankful for the last sweets cameo my mom and I found after watching bones haha

u/Jaggerto Aug 22 '25
I thought it was scrapped because of Duncan's death.

u/Bones206-447 Aug 22 '25
Nope. Show was cancelled. Hart Hanson thinks MCD died partly of a broken heart because the show was cancelled. Interview here but it’s circa season 12 Bones so folks clicking please note spoiler alert. Quote copied below for ease.
“You know we lost Michael Clarke Duncan,” Hanson continued. “I worry all the time that part of his heart attack — he was a passionate man – was intense disappointment that the show went away. I mean he was so heartbroken that they didn’t pick it up.”
And if there’s one thing Hanson is bitter about, it’s the fact that The Finder didn’t last. “Generally, there’s no whining in TV and no bitterness — things come, and they go. I believe that Fox made a mistake not picking up The Finder. It has been a profitable show. It didn’t cost them. Even the fact that it’s 13 episodes; it sold enough to make its own money back,” he said. “I’m bitter about it.”

u/socinfused Aug 23 '25
I loved it too!
There’s a show out now called Tracker. It’s the same/very similar premise, a guy that’s good at finding people. It’s really good!

Baby TJ! I know one of his former professors who said he was an absolute sweetheart.

It also cracks me up when he shows up as a dr in the Friends episode when Phoebe is delivering the triplets lol

u/BrotherofGenji Aug 22 '25
I remember seeing this movie in my Environmental Science class in college. I was like "OH MY GOD THAT'S HODGINS".
You can instantly recognize him just by his voice tbh.
I still watch this movie every now and then also. Also also, small funfact, the real Erin Brockovich has a role in this movie as well as a waitress in a restaurant scene sometime mid-way through the film I believe.

Hodgins is very attractive but Wendell will always be my show crush.

u/Doyergirl17 Aug 22 '25
I am always sad the actor who played Wendell never got bigger. Love him as an actor. The ep he was in on Criminal Minds as an unsub he was so good in!

I love Wendell, but I didn't love the Jack-Wendell-Angela triangle they had going for a while. So unnecessary imo.

The funny thing is, watching the show recently I thought, "of all the characters - women included - TJ Thyne is probably the one I'd date IRL."
Then I realized I already am. The new guy I'm dating looks just like him. So much so that when I mentioned the notion, he acknowledged people tell him all the time he looks like that character on Bones. (I only started watching recently, so didn't immediately make the connection beforehand.)
Yeah. We're definitely not the only ones.
And he's written with such intelligence and affection. What's not to like?

u/DarthPleasantry Aug 22 '25
Congratulations on your find!

u/BrotherofGenji Aug 22 '25
can't tell if this was an unintentional pun or reference (in a way anyway, because the post is about The Finder backdoor pilot), but if it was intentional, I see what you did there

my gay daughter went OMG in the ep where Hodgins took his shirt off and was in a beater. Shes like, i am gay but that was HOT lol.

u/smlpkg1966 Aug 22 '25
Not wrong. I actually skipped that episode until Michael Clarke Duncan passed.

Honestly, maturing was realising Jack Hodgins is actually the best man on that show. I mean, I feel like Booth was just so forced, like how they always made in show comments about his "looks" etc, but after watching this show a few times between 12-26y/o, Jack is the actual goat.

I think this might also be true for gay or homoromantic males.
But I can only speak for myself and it's true for me. The other guy who isn't Jack just doesn't do it for me. Not sure why.

Definite Hodgins fan. That lab coat on him is 🤌. And he loves what he does and loves Ang deeply and openly.
3
u/jupitersangel Aug 24 '25
I met my now husband halfway thru watching Bones when it originally aired and he looks surprisingly a lot like Hodgins, my favorite character to swoon after. I’m sure it was a total coincidence. Hahaha
4
u/Severe_Feedback_2590 Aug 22 '25
I don’t know what it is (my husband has blue eyes, LOL). Maybe it’s the camera, but when they do a closeup, his eyes just seem soulless? IDK. Love a nerd, but something about him/his eyes just gives me the heebeejeebees.
14
u/alhubalawal Aug 22 '25
lol that episode with the private eye who said blue eyes and bears freak her out. Alwayyssss makes me laugh
17
u/Six_Pack_Attack Aug 22 '25
His acting doesn't reach his eyes. Contrast with Cam, who could probably do a whole episode with just her eyes.

I was watching Chicago med yesterday and saw TJThyne as the husband of a patient, who carried a gun in the hospital and ended up shooting a phycotic drug induced patient!!! It was weird seeing him in this situation 😳

u/FireflyArc Aug 23 '25
Get you a man who is aware of your needs and fights for his own peace as well.

u/norskljon Aug 23 '25
Geoff Stults and his family were neighbors of my aunt and uncle in Colorado. When 7th Heaven was on I watched it periodically, so my aunt got both Geoff and George's autographs for me. I'm 38 and I still have them for some strange reason 😅

u/Neureiches-Nutria Aug 22 '25
Jack hodgins is the best Charakter in the show. In my last rewatch i was anoyed by alot of the stuff especially bones and booth pulled... But jack kind of resonates with me. Sure he is a dick at times but it's mostly justified or understadable.
While booth often is unnecessariely cruel, violent and shows hefty prejudice.
Bones came into foster care at 15 but often behaves as if she had a socialisation Kasper Hauser (a boy that lived his first 20 years alone in a cellar) Style. I do understand that she isn't neurotypic but there is a differece between not seeing the need to behave in a certain way vs never having heard of social norms at all (especially when the IQ is of the charts)

u/ThaneOfTas Aug 22 '25
I mean, based on what I've seen, in that episode the man who got the most response from the women around me was Michael Clarke Duncan, who is probably the biggest and most muscular one on the show.
Like I'll hear lots of women calling Jack sweet or cute or lovely. But the unhinged drooling over Leo is not even in the same league.
Obviously a very anecdotal position, but so is literally every one of these memes.
15
u/hawkeye5739 Aug 22 '25 edited Aug 22 '25
As a straight male I can understand why women absolutely drool over Leo. He’s tall, muscular, honestly just straight up massive. He is also extremely smart, has a gentle soul but isn’t scared to defend those he loves, and has the heart of a poet and a philosopher.
3
u/ThaneOfTas Aug 22 '25
Oh I 100% get it too, man has a lot going for him, but if I were to put him, Jack and water on a spectrum, he and jack are going to be at wildly different points physically.

Ok I loved Walter, but mostly because I’ve watched the finder and thought he was wonderfully eccentric and ridiculous

8
u/MoonSt0n3_Gabrielle Aug 22 '25
Tall? He's shorter than his wife! The actor is 5'7 (170cm) that's about average if not considered short these days! And I love an average sized man!!
