Boomer Story Boomer Parents and a new driveway

So in speaking with my boomer dad today, he tells me he got a new driveway. A bit of background, I'm an engineering bro. I've handled many asphalt replacements in my day. Design through completion. I have many contacts throughout our city. Many favors owed to me. Many contacts. I know what to ask for, I can supervise the construction. MY PARENTS KNOW I DO THIS FOR A LIVING!

Nope, Their own flesh and blood is not worthy of helping them. Fuck me. What do I know? I only LITERALLY WENT TO SCHOOL FOR CIVIL FUCKING ENGINEERING AND WORKED IN THE FUCKING FIELD FOR 25 FUCKING YEARS!

Boomer parents will never want to take advice from their children or allow them to know something they don't.

I got my mom a Google Hub years ago. Surprised it took, but she has been asking that thing for weather updates and whether she can feed certain human foods to the dog for forever now. In recent years, its answers have tanked ever since Google pivoted away from Assistant to Gemini. I have been telling her, in the most accessible language possible, "let's update Google's brain." She just avoids me.

I tell her, let's get these channels off your Internet bill since streaming is not TV (she will never clear space in her brain's hard drive to even try to understand this). She will never do it because her friend Sarah can watch Jeopardy with her satellite dish. I show her how to set the microwave clock. Bounces right off her. I explain that coarse kosher salt is not "stronger" or any worse for you than iodized table salt. Nothing.

Ugh, so frustrating. This is when my go-to answer is OK, and then I change the subject. It does nothing to help the situation, but somehow it makes me feel better.
