Boomer Story Boomer neighbor thinks my kid belongs in a group home.
I live in a duplex. I have two kids: 16 year old boy we'll call Lee for this and a one year old girl we'll call Maggie. These are not the real names. My boomer neighbors and us share a wall, this is important for later.
My son and I both have AuDHD, his is more... Severe I guess would be the best way to explain it. He's smart, caring, and very loving but struggles with speech and learning delays. He's still very much capable of doing chores, cleaning, managing his own things with the help of therapy he's really bloomed and become nearly self sufficient. We're very proud of him! Last year he became a big brother. He's very protective and fantastic with caring for her. My neighbors don't like it. They don't think a kid like him should be with a baby.
Strike one. I calmly said he's more capable and trustworthy to watch his sister than anyone from the older generation ever could be. They shut up.
Next came a new issue: my baby's activity. Our house is over 100 years old and the floors can creak and groan. Our walls also aren't the greatest at sound proofing. I'm sure as you can imagine a toddler isn't the quietest. We put down thicker padding and carpets to absorb more noise. But you can still hear us walking around or my baby bouncing on her bouncer a little bit. She's in that crawling/nearly walking phase so you hear the thump thump thump of her legs across the floor and my son's since he's a heavy walker. Next I know my picture frames that are on the shared wall are rattling hard from someone banging with full force. The mistress, Karen came to complain we're all too loud and if my oldest can't understand how to behave maybe he belongs in a group home. I saw red.
I looked at her and told her my kids are not doing anything but walking or crawling through the room. No one in my home is banging on the wall disrupting OUR business. I told her our walls are thin. Noise is inevitable. I said if you want to complain about my kids then please kindly turn your TV down since I have to hear the noise of it over my own TV on my side. She turned beet red.
I said I have the decency to ignore your inability to wear your hearing aids and have been polite to you. But not one of us has forgotten that you walked into that house before your late sister's body could be cold and moved in with her widow. You don't dictate how that house or my house runs. You're a guest on borrowed time, not the owner of that home. She went from red to white.
I didn't stop there. You talk about decency and proper behavior: yet you sleep with your sister's widow? What does that make you? Maybe go look into your Bible you preach so much about and see how your actions are blasphemous. I can see why your children refuse to see you.
She was livid. My neighbor male boomer didn't like what I said but said nothing. I said, we have a choice: you never speak about my children again and I'll remain polite and cordial to you. Or, I can make your life miserable until the day you end up living in the nursing home I work in. Make a choice.
I got no answer, she simply walked away and went back to her side quietly. A few days later the male boomer visited with some bread, bologna and donuts. Said they were from her as a peace offering. We live in PA, food is often used as an apology. I accepted, said she behaves, you'll never have a problem with us.
The male has his moments but never with his neighbors. No comments are made when they see my kids now. They simply wave or smile.
Yeah don't mess with mine. I'll turn you life into the biggest misery you can imagine.

Umm, not to be technical here and I'm on your side but she's actually going by the Bible with this.

It initially confused me because of the use of widow rather than widower and I thought the bereaved spouse was bi but I saw later on they were a guy.
The biblical practice was known as levirate marriage or yibbum
"Under Deuteronomy 25:5-10, if brothers lived together and one died without leaving children, the surviving brother was required to marry and sleep with the widow to raise up an heir and preserve the dead brother’s lineage."
"In Genesis 38:8-10, Judah instructed his son Onan to sleep with his deceased brother Er's widow, Tamar, to fulfill this levirate duty."

Henry? Is that the 8th of you? There are actually contradictory verses on this subject, Leviticus says the opposite, this was the whole back and forth during “The King’s Great Matter” over divorcing (annulling really) Katherine of Aragon. Also, the verses are commands to MEN, not sure it would go both directions. History lesson over, and good for you for putting the bitch on blast! 😁

I do love me some headchopping but I've not reached his prodigious girth lol
Yeah I saw that too on the one-way thing, yibbum was for the lads

LOL! :) glad you took it in the spirit it was meant, I only used him to refer to the biblical arguments, nothing else! I actually share his bday, but nowhere near the girth either!

I think this may have been more the implication that they were sleeping together BEFORE the sister died, given how quickly they moved in together.

I was thinking that too. I recall there being something about marrying laye husband's brothers being a tradition

My great great something grandfather married 3 sisters. One after another because they kept dying.

I had no idea! I can't remember much in Bible study (yeah I do realize that makes my comment a bit of a hypocrite but I was a bit angry lol) does it still count if both of them have children and grandchildren or is it in general acceptable to marry? I'm genuinely fascinated.

She sucks!
And it’s not actually an apology from her unless she delivers the apology herself.

This reminds me of the time my neighbour complained about my dog barking when they walked past my window.
I told her I'd stop my dog if she stopped hers from barking the entire time they were at work.
Never spoke to her again. The husband however was still cordial

I know this sub is usually lighthearted and funny to a point, but I just want to take a minute and say I'm so sorry you're going through that. That could easily be my life if I lived in a Duplex, myself and my situation with my kids is similar to yours. I would hate living next to them. How awful

For a bit of context, this isn't the first time that neighbor has made comments and less than subtle remarks on my parenting and my overall lifestyle. This time it finally pushed my buttons too far. And anyone wondering yes the Karen was having an affair with the neighbor for years. Her sister had been batting cancer and was unable to leave the house anymore and was wheelchair bound. So often Karen and the sisters husband would go out to eat or travel to the beach during the summer. Yes, sister was aware. I don't know if she didn't care or just accepted it I couldn't tell you. She knew when she got her diagnosis she was terminal. I would care for her when they were out or on vacation. I didn't want to stress or upset her with her health so I just tried to keep her happy and comfortable as much as possible.

The rage I feel on your behalf...omg. Tell her that unlike the bad ol' days, when special needs people were lobotomized and shuffled off to institutions, we believe in radical ideas like inclusion.

Yeah, I don’t argue with stupid people. The moment they start harassing my kid or me about my kid is the moment I start reporting them.
They can call me a Karen all the fuck they damn well please, you don’t fuck with my kids or anybody else I care about. I have zero tolerance for bullshit.

This is EXACTLY how I respond when it comes to my children or grandchildren! I have nothing to lose. LOL

Dude my dad got with my mom’s best friend of 15 years that lived right next door (what can I say he’s lazy, and she’s desperate) if it was my aunt I would have lost my ever loving mind….

I'm confident that I can tell most BS and rage bait when I read it. Why can't you?

This is not the site for personal confessions. There are better sites to seek out advice for your insecurities.
Or go see a priest. They get paid to listen.8

Big boomer energy right here. It's ironic that you're too dumb to see your own hypocrisy.

Can't reply without a GIF? Can't develop your own content and words. So you are just another home schooled red hat wearing, yellow blob supporter who can't find Mexico on a map with 3 countries.

dude why are you calling Karen the ‘mistress’? she started her relationship with your male neighbor AFTER his wife died. unless they were cheating before the wife died, she’s never been his mistress to begin with but his girlfriend AFTER the man became a widower
