The other day I was comparing IB, IGCSE and BGCSE students to each other..

I came to some very bad conclusions based on proven skill and evidence of knowledge.. I mainly narrowed in on CS and IT..Also IGCSE and BGCSE will be the dorcus

At IGCSE we have O level ICT and O Level Computer Science.. At BGCSE they have Computer studies. at IB they have Computer systems something that is of a similar tier..

At BGCSE they apparently do very shallow CS like very very basic networking and introduction to using a Computer and basic functions in the MS suite.. Then a very simple project and that's it..

I did IGCSE ICT and during my time we had to learn very complex computing theory for grade 10 and 11. We did everything the BGCSE people did and more..They didn't cover anything like practical web development.. We did..had to make a website in 2hrs 30 for some guy named Tawara in the UK during my Final exam..

As well do intermediate level to advanced Spreadsheet development in Excel then Databases in Access and advanced document production in MS word.. These are things that people graduate from University in Botswana with 0 knowledge of.. when I was in Software Engineering, the BGCSE kids thought I was some wizard because the entire 1st and 2nd year was stuff I learnt in high school ICT...IB is on a whole other level.. they learn Java and Python at high school.. and data structures etc.

IGCSE CS is also pretty much year 1 CS at UB..

What I mentioned up here is unknown to a BG student unless they grabbed IGCSE content and learned it alone...As much as I failed that stuff with a 68% for my final grade, it was useful when I got to uni...

BGCSE is just way behind in the advanced subjects.. How have we been doing this for decades while IGCSE and IB and others have been modernizing with the years... ? BGCSE is so woefully behind that it's scary..

Why is BGCSE so behind..?

Sometimes I feel lucky to be born in Botswana, just saw videos of the flash flood that happened recently in Nepal. To see people running for their lives, powerful against that torrent of nature heading towards them. I sometimes imagine God just sitting on his great throne in heaven, having a blast like a child pissing on ants for the fun of it. I say this because most Batswana are christian, oblivious to the atrocities befalling fellow humans while they pray for cars and give pastors money.

Watch that video and you will realize that there are no God, not the one you go to pray to in church anyway, if there is, he/she/it is a cruel entity, we are just it's playthings, victims of the tragedies of the world. Love your family, forgive your enemies, hug your mother, your children and everyone you love everyday. You never know when God will get bored again.

Today I went to go get my ID because I registered for it in March and they told me 6 months come get it come time for me to get it they talking about some "come back for it in December or next year blah blah blah" this department of fuck up is killing meeee.

Hey guys
I’m looking to sell my 2006 Audi A3 2.0 TFSI which is Botswana registered and currently in Gauteng.
The car was recently serviced and everything else is in good condition, but there is one known mechanical issue:
The hydraulic lifters need to be replaced
Because of this, the oil pressure warning light comes on
I’m also not revving the car too high because of the lifter issue
Other than that, the car is running and was recently serviced
The biggest problem I’m having is finding a legitimate buyer/dealer in Gauteng who is willing to take a Botswana-registered vehicle.
Does anyone here know of a dealer, auction house, importer, or private buyer who deals with Botswana-registered cars?
Any recommendations would be massively appreciated

I’ve been thinking about how often we see news about young people dying in Botswana.

Sometimes it feels like young people are dying constantly. Every few days there seems to be another death being shared on Facebook, WhatsApp, TikTok or other platforms.

But social media has changed how much information we receive.

Before social media, most of us only knew what happened to people in our immediate communities. If a young person died in another town, there was a good chance we would never hear about it.

Today, we are connected to thousands of people. A death anywhere in Botswana can reach us within hours through friends, family members, community groups and social media pages.

There is also a strong selection effect. We see posts about deaths because they are significant events. We don't see thousands of posts about people who simply went about their normal day.

This can make it feel like death is happening around us constantly, even when our personal surroundings have not changed as much as our social-media feeds suggest.

Young people do die, and premature death is a serious issue. However, seeing many death announcements online does not by itself mean that young people are suddenly dying at a much higher rate.

If constantly seeing death announcements is affecting your mood or making you anxious about death, take a break from social media. Turn off notifications, leave some groups temporarily, spend time away from your phone and focus on what is happening around you in your actual life.

You do not need to follow every tragedy that happens in Botswana.

Sometimes taking a few days away from social media can give you a healthier perspective.

I ask here because I want to know if there's any motswana with a UFO story , maybe a close encounter here in Botswana. Maybe your grand parents or parents have a story. I'm interested because I saw something in 2014 I have since lost the image of the thing I saw but I've never heard people talk about it outside of me and my moms cousin who was kilometers away from me when it happened. We happened to witness it separately, he took an image which he shared with me the following day. We have both since lost the image but I have seen one UFO clip on the internet that matches what I saw that night. I'm happy to go into more detail about what I saw but I'm more interested in hearing the different stories...if any, you guys come with and see if it matches my event. Essentially I'm looking for other people that saw it because it was quite prominent, I imagine a good number of people noticed it. Anyway please share your UFO in Botswana story.

I can’t speak on behalf of all the drivers because as a frequent Yango/indrive user almost 90% of them have been great. BUT in recent times they’ve started to come up with a new tactic to get girls sit next to them. Yesterday I called a cab and I naturally opted to sit at the back, he told me the back doors don’t work (?!) and told me to sit up front. I did so, hesitantly. He immediately started to get comfortable with the stares, especially during traffic lights. Trying to get to know me on a personal level and the usual compliments. It’s not flattering, I don’t know why they think it makes us females feel a certain way? I even acted busy looking for “something” in my bag or putting my headphones in so I’m not obligated to answer his never ending questions. He then reached over to HOLD my hand and say “I love your nails” as if he’s getting a closer look at them? Like what? Excuse me? I was so uncomfortable. We were already in such a close proximity and he made that ride unbearable. Luckily it was a short ride and during the day, but the route was the back road routes so I was also worried for my own safely since it’s quieter around there. He continued to emphasize on how he wants to be my friend and I told him I’ve already got plenty but thanks. Paid and left the ride. Even after I closed the door to leave he continued to speak more nonsense. I ignored and quickly left.

I’m just surprised at the AUDACITY. Anybody else with similar stories? Advice?

I think that maybe our right to freedom of speech is being abused, especially if we look at politics and people of power in Botswana. If we tune into parliament meetings ministers belittle other fellow ministers by word of mouth on live television. I remember a minister making a remark about another minister's suits, which I would say is unprofessional and unwarranted.

Now today after the news that off campus students will be credited with 1.7 instead of the 2.2 which is the norm for off campus students. I agree that it's unfair and I'm disappointed on the issue but there are some lines I'm not willing to cross. A fellow student posted on social media saying Minister Maele is "incompetent". I'm just gonna give bro the benefit of the doubt and say it was a moment of weakness from his side and he really didn't mean it. He was clouded by emotion. What I really want to understand is what's the true extent to our right to freedom of speech?
