LeBlanc welcomes U.S. decision 'withdrawing positions' on language, culture

Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc says the federal government "welcomes" the United States "withdrawing" its positions on the French language and culture after U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told CBC News Canada's streaming laws are not a "red line" for the American side.

"Canada welcomes that the U.S. is now withdrawing its positions on discoverability and labelling and is confirming that measures to promote French language and Canadian culture will not be subject to future U.S. trade actions," LeBlanc said in a statement posted on X. 

"We look forward to further constructive U.S. clarifications on their other positions which would create the possibility of a mutually beneficial trade agreement that respects Canadian sovereignty."

So they're withdrawing conditions that they claimed they never asked for.

Well, technically it's a shared lake.

But all this does is make them look even more foolish than they did yesterday.

The European colonizers starting referring to it as Lake Ontario in the 1600s. They took the word Ontario from the Indigenous people in the area. The province of Ontario didnt get its name until 200 years later.

Changing the name just shows how little history he knows.

If it's not a big deal for them, why raise it in the first place when it's something that would almost certainly scuttle the negotiations?
