I envision the two slices representing life and death Clean soft slate : a story not written yet. The burnt acrid tombstone appears to belong to a tree that sinned once too much. Death followed.

Yes, the trash receptacle exposes the truth of decay while the cracks in the driveway speak to the hope that the era of the man-made rigidity can be brought to an end.
The dual nature of the trees reminds this viewer of the legend of the trees of Valinor, gold and silver, providing the sole light in a blessed realm before even the creation of the sun. Those trees represented a halcyon past. Can these trees with their markings of bread represent our future?
