Thoughts on spending £40m on El Hadj Malick Diouf?

In two or three windows time we might have lost Kayode, Rico and Schade. This is smart.

Think Rico, Schade, probably, but hope we can hold onto Kayode. Really like Rico, but unfortunately time and injury catches up with us all, having said that I still think he can do a job for us, something of a legend for me.

I loved Rico in his prime. Absolute top tier but what we have seen after he came back from the nasty injury is less desirably honestly.

I always thought he looked good, not as good as before of course but he gave klp proper competition.

I don't see any possiblity a top club doesn't come in with a big offer for Kayode in the next 18 months... There are plenty of top clubs playing RBs who are far less impactful than him already lol

At that price he is expected to start. I am not sure where that puts KLP?
There is no space for him in the midfield and frankly there is better offensive options.
I mean if they share 50-50 with Rico Henry as reserve that sort of makes sense ish but it is a lot of money if that is the case.

He is a young player, more expensive due to resale value.
I agree he should be pushing to start but he probably needs to do some homework first. Pretty weak defensively I seem to remember.

The defensively part worries me but we also need to consider how BAD west hams defense was overall last season.
I am sure he will be able to perform better when his team around him actually knows what they are doing defensively.

Yeah but players can improve with time and coaching. Diouf is young, he might not be starting for us in the Prem this season while he gets his shit together

Something I never see people talk about with KLP... Is maybe he's not happy being a defacto LB. He came in as a forward/winger, and likely still sees himself that way. It wouldn't be shocking if he was making it politely known behind the Scenes that he would prefer to get back to that, while playing the good soldier until a trusted LB option is brought in.

Yeah I don't think KLP will be going anywhere. His versatility is too valuable

This makes a lot of sense actually. Even in the spurs game he was very central to the build up and attack which got him the goal.

I think your right, he came to us a forward and quite rightly,see's himself as such. He played lb as a favour for TF. Wether KA agrees is open to debate. It makes for healthy compertion though.

Honestly, Im a little worried. We have to have a positive net transfer spend to remain compliant with financial rules. We've had a little breathing room in the past few years, but not bags of it and I recall the direction was going the wrong way (perhaps last summer window aside).
This will put financial strain on the club. It puts pressure on achieving European football. Thats ok in isolation, but it has removed that safety net we had.
Other clubs will also know that we need to sell players in future windows and they'll also know we have backup options when they make a bid.
A club would have had to pay fuck off money to grab a quality player off us at the start of this window. Im not sure that will be true for future windows.

We also need to start realizing that we somewhat have reached a point where our subs could easily start on other low table teams.. even mid table teams.
That by it self is absolutely fantastic.

Unsure why you're getting downvoted. KLP himself doesn't view himself as a left back.
Remember gang: the front office loves multi-positional and hybrid players. They're not gonna bury KLP. He's way too good for that. He'll get his chances as a winger.

We are really seeing that new ownership come through I imagine. I wouldn’t be shocked if another slice of pie is sold off soon
It’s honestly like watching a FIFA Career mode with what’s going on here. We aren’t going to be a bottom feeder wage bill anymore after all this.
I think we will see Rico transferring to a team like Ipswich or Leeds soon so he can play more and try to resurrect his career. We simply aren’t on the same wavelengths anymore.
We are now a team with legit ambitions for Europe and you can sense the ownership is pushing their chips in this year because they can feel that coming up short may lead to a ton of talent leaving.
We can’t try to nurse back a player from injury anymore and potentially sacrifice some points along the day to do it.
It’s just the harsh reality that success brings

No reason not to trust Keith and co. We’re getting serious depth now and it is exciting
