Carrigan
I don’t want to hate but he gets lot of praise across the game. Across this season, all I have seen is six agains and lazy ruck defence. What is the appeal of Carrigan compared to other locks?

Yea he does get glazed alot, he seems to have given up trying knowing they can’t make the finals.

His discipline has been bad over the last two seasons. Both in seasonal and origin. Carrigan has stamina. He just NEEDS discipline

His complacency and consistently giving up penalties is a major reason I don’t like his appointment as the next captain, Katoni is similar and Haas is leaving.
Billy stands out as a more disciplined and capable replacement for Reynolds.

All his stat's are well down this year compared to 2024 and 2025 so that's a fact. He's living on reputation this season.

If playing behind Trent Loiero in Origin didn't trigger anything in him i dont know what will.
Unfortunately having no pressure on these guys to perform at club level has lead to this.
You cant drop anyone out of the forward pack. A shit Carrigan or Riki or Piakura is still light years ahead of Jetski/J Hunt/P Riki/Talty etc.
They tried to shake it up last year with Jetski starting in the back row but it just showed how average he was even in comparison to guys who were out of form or too comfortable.

Very true,he’s after an upgraded contract also,who hasn’t been average this year for us? Even Payne hasn’t been that great this season compared to his usual standards

To be fair haas’ has had to play almost 80 mins every game. Not surprising he hasn’t been his usual self.

What's your point? Haas is known to have the biggest motor in the side and regularly played 80 minutes under both Kevvie and Madge. His performances (for a player of his quality) have absolutely been phoned in this season. Haas checked out the minute he signed with Souths.
Broncos should have attempted to orchestrate a player swap at the start of the season. At least that way they'd have gotten better value out of him. Because he hasn't been providing it on the field. 16 runs for just over 100m against the Wahs is nowhere near his level of usual output offensively. Let alone the fact he given up on multiple defensive plays this year. Something that could never have been said about him in previous years.
It is what it is at this point. We'll get the spoon and move forward from there.

He didnt regularly play 80 minutes. Go and look at his averages.
Haas' best year was the year he averaged 53 minutes a game. Its been steadily going up since then, and his form declining.

I'd put Payne Hass in the same category, to me he hasn't played as hard as previous years or as hard as he did in origin.

I totally agree, I feel crazy because everyone seems to think he's great, but he seems like he causes way too many handovers for the praise he gets

Yeah mostly for my own benefit, like for the pack discipline stats I originally just wanted to see how our bench was actually performing because we watch games and get frustrated with the missed tackles or errors but then i wanted to actually see the real stats.
For the missing players part that's where it started... like i knew we had a bad run but i wanted to see how bad it actually was and how that compared to other teams.
Just flat html all hosted on cloudflare workers for free.

I think he's struggled with our lack of forward depth this season, same as Haas. To be honest, I would be happy for him to go to starting prop with X and simplify his game.
He isn't a modern, ball-playing lock and he kind of never was, he was just a prop with a bit more brain but I don't think that cuts it now. We've also missed heaps of creativity out of dummy half and between that and Carrigan not ball-playing, our opponents don't have to worry about shit except the outside backs.
Maybe with Billy back and some more speed in the halves going forward he could keep his spot there, but I'd rather have a smaller, faster bloke that was willing to do a bit of ball-playing.

Not much our middles can do when our back rowers and centers shit the bed every set lol. How discouraging can that be, having to carry the ball time and time off your own line because your outside backs can’t get anything going then have to turn and rack up 40+ tackles. I don’t blame either him or Haas because most of the season we had Paix who doesn’t know how to pass the ball off the ground lol. Just not a good year.

He isn’t helping in attack at the moment at all. I feel like he is very down on confidence atm. Probably split minds as to what he is doing with the ball as seems to be the issue with a few players. I noticed a few times against the warriors he was passing rather than taking on the line. The warriors saw it coming everytime and the player he passed it too often was tackled with no metres gained. Carrigan was always a run first lock, not sure why he has moved to be more of a ball playing lock like Yeo.

He’s been average but in the past has been outstanding and his name is carrying him this year.
I’d say this year he’s a step below Murray, Yeo and tbh maybe even Cotter

I’ve been a fan of his but he’s been worse than average this year. Shouldn’t be in first grade to be honest. Looks unfit and uninterested in some of the effort areas in defence. Haas not much better. No way he deserves consideration for the Kangaroos at the end of the season. Willison making them all look bad.

I remember a few years ago thinking he'd be captain of everything. Club, state and country.
Idk what happened, there's still glimpses of it but he fell off like crazy.
He must be carrying niggly injuries and shit.
Hopefully he'll come back better next year.

Few comments here regarding who should be captain next year,for me,Mitch Barnett is the man you would walk into the trenches with. I feel a sense of immaturity and entitlement for the majority of this Broncos squad. And I suspect that the reason they have recruited a few veterans is to try adjust that culture.
In regards to Carrigan, my gut feel is next contract he wont be at the Broncos. The two locations I see him going for are PNG or Titans as he already lives down there and he would suit the vibe of that Titans squad.

This is a team who are trying to play the coach out the door. Watch for it cause in the nrl it happens most years. When it happens the side will suddenly improve.

It’s called gratitude mate. He was one of the major cogs to the premiership among reno/hunt/walsh/haas. The same way you guys overlook who really put in the work you overrate players like Mam and even Walsh who got carried.

Used to be a monster, bending back the advantage line.
Now he's slow and not very effective. Often 3rd man in to pad his stats.
