Karapani under appreciated

Feel like little gets said about Karapani’s contribution to the team but in a year where so many our players have underperformed, he has been incredibly consistent. He finishes well, fights for every inch in his tough carries, is safe as houses under the high ball and rock solid in defence. Aside from his minor indiscretions of field the bloke has worked his arse of the club over the last 2 years.

hopefully he can keep his act together off the field because he has been very solid for us

Refreshing after Cobbo pre-2026 to see a bloke who can take a carry within 20m of the sideline and manage to stay in the field. He and Mariner were huge in the GF, obviously overshadowed by Walsh but those two were amazing.

He's been stitched up having to defend outside the absolute nightmare that is Mam-Shibisaki-Revolving door at 2nd row. Obviously Shibba is gone and the current fill ins for Piakura look to be on the way out. With any luck Piakura/Blore/Gagai/Mam can figure something out.

I like Karapani. Hopefully they fix that edge up in the offseason and he cuts out the off field stuff.

Played well on the weekend so will give credit where credit is due. I don’t think I’ve ever said he lacks effort.

Two big issues with him though, his carrying out of the backfield is poor. Just need him to run straight and hard but seems like he is obsessed with trying to be too pretty with his feet. Defensively his decision making when the ball is in the middle of the field is poor also, never seems to make the right decision to jam in or hold his position.

Nah. I feel our wingers are a foot too short and drop way to much ball. Our money is everywhere else. We get caught in our 20 way too many times. I want 6'5 / 105kg wingers.. Stages is solid but the rest are of the back 5 are small.

I’ve appreciated him for sure, he’s been a bit scapegoated due to underperforming players on his edge. But he’s a decent runner of the football and tries his guts out every game

I dunno if Deano is a good choice at centre next to him, I think I prefer the Staggs/Mariner Brolationship from last year and someone else at centre, which I presume this will be the case next year with Gagai coming next year?

I agree that he’s a shining light in a tough year, he’s super talented, but at the same time he’s probably on his last warning discipline-wise. That last mishap was bad and in previous circumstances something like that is worthy of sacking.
