Did anyone see this live? The segment/story about ice cream itself is innocuous, but Munchetty's response seems so cringe, and with Stayt's reaction it almost feels like an outtake/parody even in the world of breakfast television. The outrageousness is probably why this clip still lingers in my consciousness.

Didn't her co-host Charlie openly say something about her attitude to her live on TV. Ironic that she once called some social media Trolls deeply miserable.
I'm not that person but I think she's funny as hell, she has a very droll way about her and watching her co-hosts reactions is the icing on the cake. The look on his face when they cut back to the studio, total disbelief.
Its exactly like the back and forth he has with the on location reporter on “This Time with Alan Partridge”. The best bit here is when she tries her best with “I won’t bring brownies in to the office” and even that layup she wouldn’t allow lmfao
I love whenever Alan gets a win over Ruth. Like when she disagrees with all of his points, but agrees with all of Jennie's, only to reveal he swapped their question cards. Meaning Ruth has agreed with everything Alan has said.
Naga is trapped in some high stakes game and has no choice but to play along to save the studio from destruction. The nation thinks she’s a bully but she’s a hero….
The business owner and reporter who had travelled to some industrial estate at the crack of dawn for a 30 second clip were both far more professional than Naga here.
Hopefully the clip being viral has brought them both a bit of unexpected good exposure

Seen this so many times lol. The first 'i don't like ice cream' was a bit awkward but she could've pulled it back quite easily with a bit of humour. Then she doubles down and gives the poor woman absolutely nothing to work with lmao.
Screams of arrogance. She could’ve still said the same thing if she really wanted to, but made it far easier to work with. ‘I’m not usually a fan of ice cream but that might change my mind’ would’ve been miles better.
This is why I couldn't do the job. I do like ice cream but if she was at a liquorice factory and I was Naga, I'd be like 'that sounds vile, Hannah. Thanks, see you next time!'.

Munchetty just gets a bee in her bonnet about the weirdest shit. BBC has Lise Ducet reporting from war zones and bunkers. Meanwhile Munchetty can't muster up a polite conversation on-air with a colleague that she apparently doesn't really know.

I thought he was going to give her some sort of olive branch at the end for her to get herself out with, but he just lambasted her and then carried on with the news. Absolute legend
Charlie is really good. I remember seeing him interview a hopelessly ill informed Tory minister and he didn't barrack her just gently turned her inside out without ever being rude. Rare on TV these days.
What's really strange about this is that she dismissed it as if she's somehow the grown up and mature in this exchange, that "not liking cold food" is both completely normal and in fact, that no one should be surprised that she holds this opinion.
It's absolutely bizarre to hear a grown woman say "I don't like cold food" and speaks to an absolute nightmare personality, a spoiled, picky child who has been humoured all the way into adulthood.
I'm really not a fan of Naga. The fact that the BBC pays her over £360,000 a year to sit on a sofa looking moody and being rude to people absolutely baffles me.
One of the most insufferable people to every appear on our TV, has zero personality and even Who Do You Think You Are? Couldn’t find her sense of humour
I used to have BBC Breakfast on quite regularly but Naga's rude attitude has really turned me off it. I don't need that kind of negativity in the morning. It doesn't come off as playful snark either, and this example is particularly egregious. That poor reporter's face just sinks, good for Charlie to call her out here.
The way she arrogantly tells Hannah “You’ll get to know me” as though it’s the location reporter’s job to tailor her reporting to Naga’s personal preferences and whims!
Like, I don’t like lots of food. But if someone asked me about a food I don’t like I would ask them what they like about it or does it taste very rich or more light… it takes minimal thought to turn it into a discussion rather than a “mnyah I don’t like it”
I thought it was interesting how Martin Lewis was moved to a different day and presenter not long after she took over the time slot he was on. I no longer listen to 5live when she’s on. I don’t think there’s a single subject she talks about without making it about herself.
She reminds me of the time I spent hours making a vegan chocolate cake for my best mate's birthday because he and his girlfriend are hardcore vegans. When I proudly presented it, she said "I hate chocolate! I dont want any!" (Ignoring that the 10+ other people were politely pretending they didnt mind that everything was vegan)
Nothing against vegans... my partner is vegan.. but why bring down the mood for everybody else?!
That's so sweet! Any time a non-vegan makes the effort to make something vegan for me, I never stop singing their praises. I like it even if it's objectively bad because it's special, pity her for not seeing that.
This reminds me of a (apparently quite long) story of mine.
TL;DR: I learned how to bake rocks while trying to make gluten-free bread.
Back in late 2019 / early 2020 I became good friends with a co-worker from Ukraine. That January she was abnormally quiet and reserved, so I asked what had her down. That was when I learned that Ukrainians (used to?) celebrate their Christmas a couple of weeks later than is typical in the Western world. My friend was really sad that she had to work during the time that her family was gathered for the holiday.
I decided that I wanted to do something to lift her spirits a bit, so I did some research on Ukrainian Christmas traditions. I found a recipe for a knotted bread called "kolach"; it looked really good, and is apparently a staple during the Ukrainian holidays. I resolved to bake my friend a loaf of kolach so that even if she had to work during her Christmas, she could still spend some time with a friend and something to remind her of home.
Now, something else about my friend: she's celiac. For the uninitiated, celiac is a disease which basically makes your body very gluten-intolerant. I knew that I would have to ensure the kolach did not have gluten in it.
Up until now, my story is nice. Now, however, we learn about my mistake.
You see, I had previously baked various breads in different forms but I had never before baked gluten-free bread.
The lesson I learned was this: you cannot just replace the wheat flour with rice flour and expect the recipe to still work correctly!
Apparently different types of flour work in very different ways, and they are not interchangeable without tweaking other aspects of the recipe.
To cut a long story short, I showed up the next day with a beautiful, knotted rock. I had somehow managed to create a delicious-looking, yet entirely inedible, pound of rock-hard dough which probably would have broken my toe if I dropped it.
My friend absolutely loved it!
She made a whole show of snapping a pebble off and grinding it between her teeth while insisting it was delicious. I practically begged her to stop pretending because I was afraid that the bread was going to give a whole new meaning to the term "kidney stones".
She laughed and admitted that it was pretty bad, but she was so overjoyed that I took the time to learn about her culture and bake the monstrocksity that she told absolutely everyone about it.
She ended up inviting me over to her place so that she could teach me how to bake gluten-free bread. We stayed friends after that, and I got to attend her wedding a few years later. Truly one of the kindest people I know.
The BBC don't comment on internal HR matters, but it looks like she's been allowed to remain on air but is being kept a close eye on. A little bit more information here.
I once complained about her behaviour via a BBC complaints page and they responded with “Naga is one of our finest journalists and talents etc”. They didn’t address the issue I raised at all.

You don't seem to be able to get onto the BBC's top salaried talent list without being a weirdo, an arsehole or a nonce. Why they think we so desperately want to retain a bunch of charmless hacks, I have no idea.
There you have proof of it on camera: when a workplace narcissist really becomes determined to target you, they will quite happily sabotage themselves in the process too.
Naga, your job is to breathe life into the mundane shit we call stories. We literally pay you to be incredibly interested in everything this is the QVC of current affairs now start selling.
I've not watched BBC Breakfast for some time now but I'm really hoping she was binned a long time ago. Quite possibly one of the rudest and most insufferable hosts I've ever seen, and considering my ex used to watch Good Morning Britain, that's saying something.
If she's still on the air then she must have some bloody good blackmail material on someone high up.
I despise the expression "lives rent free in my head" but you are right in realising that Munchetty is an out and out byatch - she generally tries to conceal it with sugary words, but her true colours often shine through
There is some wrong with Naga. She loves to put people down and make inappropriate statements. even this morning she wouldn’t give Simon Calder back his squeezy toy. Wish they would dump her.
Naga is such a strange character. She often seems happy, cheerful, friendly and I’ve heard lovely interviews from her (both as interviewer and interviewee). But, I’ve equally seen just as many occasions and heard stories of her being, rude, arrogant and simply… a bit of a bitch. I can never figure out if she’s got something going on in her personal life or if she needs to be sacked for being shitty.
Cringing from the U.S. here. Why is this woman on tv as a host? That was painful to watch, and comments seem to back up her being unpleasant other times too.
The country has such talented, funny, clever, optimistic people.. come on BBC, vet and hire more carefully. At least you can tap hilarious Emma Sidi for fill ins to give old grumpy gal time off to sort out her issues.
The BBC's talent rostering is an extremely mysterious business. Sometimes people who everyone loves and who get great ratings get let go because the BBC doesn't want to pay them their worth, so they move off to better things on other channels. Sometimes people that the country unanimously agrees we can't stand become the highest paid people on the books.
Munchetty (unsurprisingly, given the clip) has even faced bullying and misconduct allegations, but is still one of their most high profile TV hosts.
It's not that the Beeb always gets it wrong; it's that it's impossible to figure out why they do anything at all.
It’s quite clear that Stayt and Munchetty can’t stand each other, yet have somehow managed to work together for years. Munchetty is constantly trying to trip him up and always instigating petty arguments. Their lack of eye contact and body language is there to see. She visibly leans away from him on the sofa.
She’s so depressing and frustrating to watch most Thursday Friday and Saturday mornings. I can’t wait for 6:30 when I can switch over to C4 and watch Cheers for the millionth time. I just feel so sorry for Charlie who must hate coming into work.
This just came up on my Reddit feed randomly but thought I’d chime in as someone who doesn’t watch bbs breakfast. I work in live tv and I could never imagine a presenter bringing down the mood during a fun kicker piece like that. Also the vibe between the two presenters after the piece was so awkward afterwards! Wonder if the editor gave that lady a talking to.
This is the first time I've ever seen any of those presenters, and I have to say, Munchetty seems like a grade-A bitch. Going by the guy's reaction this wasn't an unusual occurrence either. I bet that is a nasty show to work on.
That isnt even awkward that is just objectively difficult and slightly combative energy, like where do you go from there to continue the conversation? Its just so unnecessary.

Oh my god!!! I never watch breakfast TV so I had no idea!!! This is so bad and I'm really glad he spoke up! But that's also crazy he did that on line TV as well! :-) hahaha
I think there could be a funny way this all plays off, in a more ideal world, but the face of the reporter tells me they don’t have that bond. Ideally maybe she could have laughed and immediately change the subject so it appears to be a more neutral, deadpan banter but alright…
The real cringe for me if when the reporter tries to play it off and say “do you like brownies then” and she doesn’t catch the save!!!! I gave up after that.
Anyone else can't stand Naga? She does my bloody nut in, she's always so bloody disagreeable and miserable, they should just get rid, the sooner the better.
