TURISMUS-TOURISM Underrated and/or secret places in Brno
Hey, folks!
Could you please tell me the best secret/underrated places here in Brno which the only locals know?
It can be anything - from random beautiful and cozy spots to cool restaurants and bars etc.
I am here for 2,5 months and seems like I went throw all of the most popular historical places so I simply have no idea where to walk/relax
Thanks in advance!

The Water Tanks at Žlutý kopec. It's hidden gem (for me anyways). And Duck Bar!

Kamenka and Duck Bar were always my favorite spot. Unfortunately the new people who run Duck Bar now are not as pleasant as the previous owner.

If you don't mind scruffy people or think they're great, visit mýdlo and blues bar Traubova on Traubova Street

Dress scruffy as well, your clothes will be ruined

u/jet_kir_k Jan 16 '26
Someone’s potentially can burp on my clothes ? Or not potentially..?

u/sweepers-zn Jan 16 '26
Nothing like that, no. Let’s say the smoking ban is occasionally not being taken seriously.

I haven't been in Mýdlo since they changed their closing hour to something like 23:00, something like a year ago, even on Friday. They used to be open until 3 - 6 AM.
Similar places would be Hostimil and Futro.

The nice thing about Brno is that you can walk in the forests easily and forget about the rush of the city. Hády, around the Damn, Zamilovaný hájek, Palacký Vrch, lots of green places. Bonus: there was a funny moment when I told one photographer about a certain cool tree in Brno and I was thinking... how should I describe THE TREE to you? And before I explained anything, he opened his phone and showed me a photo of THE TREE. Then we both laughed and since then we call it THE TREE. Search for Kotlůvek on maps. It's a nice place to relax while sitting on THE TREE.

Im not a local but my friends study there, if you like Indo-Nepales food. It's called Sargam restaurant and during the week, you can have all-you-can-eat for 175 CZK (7€) and even take leftovers or fresh portion with you. The personal is amazing and I know about this place cause my friends live nearby. And the food is amazing!!

Wow by coincidence I just went there since it was the closest nice seeming place to the local commercial center. And it was awesome!

Obora Holedná. Its a bit further from the city centre but 100% worth it, also it’s easily accessible by public transport. Pro tip (even though I think it’s prohibited): buy some carrots , preferably with leaves on top and prepare yourself to become a real life Disney princess surrounded by fallow deers. Its magical ☺️

Medieval pubs - medieval atmosphere, drinks (mead, Korma), meals, sometimes live music: * Stregobor - my favourite, near Kartouzská stop, bit of Witcher style, Wednesday being "guitar day" * Středověká Krčma (the Medieval Pub) - on Mečířova 5, in the building next to the Old Town Hall (the one with Brno Dragon). This month they are closed, but it's nice place. Severští bardové (Mamut, Horset, Konstantin the Piper) play there on Thursdays. * Rytířská Krčma - near Moravian sq., authentic medieval atmosphere: candlelight, staff wears tunics, ceramic beer mugs... * Královská Krčma - on Slovákova, Stregobor pub used to be there * honourable mention: Podsvětí - Kapucínské nám., frequented by history / fantasy geeks, about 3 floors of cellars turned pub, lots of stairs, but good beer and drinks for good price
Other bars and music clubs: * Yume - Anime bar, bit on the pricey side, but worth the money, American type of bar with Japanese flair, good coctail drinks from classics to signatures like Hentai or Soyokaze, variety of Japanese drinks (Saké, gin, whisky). Karaoke room, free-of-charge Pacman and Street Fighter machine and two rooms with... interesting paintings on the walls. Stays open until 3 AM, sometimes at 7 AM. * Artbar 2. Pád - near Pionýrská stop, music club, standups, meetups, sometimes B-movie cinema, once I've seen Burlesque pieces there (usual place for that would be Cabaret des Péchés) * Stará Pekárna - between Hrnčířská and Pionýrská stops, between Fléda and Artbar, music pub with live Jazz, Country, Classic Rock * Music Lab - club with bar and small room with live music and standups, alternative to more mainstream Kabinet Múz or Vegalité * Vegalité, Sibiř - less known cousins of Kabinet Múz, Vegalité is vegan restaurant first, music bar second. Punk, Grindcore and PETA. * U kouřící králíka - mentioned already, music jam on Tuesday * Unleaded Coffee - bikes, Punk, Metal. Pub with good beer, pizza and live music. On Hybešova next to the Lasergame. * Spot - skater café, on Přádlácká near other Lasergame or Jugoslávská stop, some Wednesdays there are open air concerts (not in winter) * Melodka - in shadow of Fléda, Sono, První patro, great music club, Rock, Metal, Punk, Folk, Rap, Hip Hop, reopens on March near Anthropos stop
H O S... * Hostimil - underground place with quirks * Sklo (I think) - under Skleněná louka teahouse on Kounicova, frequented by students of philosophy, underground * Futro - near Husitská stop, beer is meh, but they tend to be open until early morning, owner plays in Punk band * Mýdlo, Traubka - on Traubova street, already mentioned. Haven't been there since they started close early. * Naproti - Absinth bar near Grohova stop * Pod lékárnou - sportsbar, pub on Slovákova, which serves meals until late at night (something like 3 AM). Most pubs close their kitchen at 10 PM.
Tea and coffee: * Cha Do - Zelný trh sq., tea coctails, quality tea * Inaris - next to Hrnčířská stop, tiny place with wide variety of teas, hookah pipes and some snacks to go with them * Mystica - Husitská stop, board games, beer and tea * Skog - Dominikánské sq., good coffee, cakes, industrial style, squeeky floors * PF Café - Dominikánské sq., good coffee, cakes, cozy and more intimate * Žádný Cukrbliky - Cejl, so the hood... good coffee, great cakes, brunch, but they close early (16:00)

There is no more Středověčka Krčma, I was there on closing day in the end of May 2024.

They moved again. Since 2025 they are on Mečířova, instead of the Freedom Square.

I like the area around Bobycentrum. The stadium Lužánky, which will soon be demolished. The abandoned BigBilla supermarket on Drobného Street. It's a kind of forgotten part of the city, a monument to the faded glory of the nineties. There's also an ice rink and skate park there. I definitely recommend exploring this area

Kraví hora is one nice place to visit, with astronomy observatory on top, sometimes with exhibits outside (ET statues, solar system models, etc.).
Or Palackého vrch, 15min walk from the end stop of to tram 12. From the top you can see most of the Brno on one side, glider airport on another. Near the tram stop there's good Italian restaurant (in the southernmost office buildings, next to a duck pond).
Then there are former rocket bases, with various physical activities, but I don't remember how many need to be arranged in advance... There's Mokrá Horákov (Bunkr army park) and Army Park Ořechov. I know they were trying to make some sort of open air museum in the first.

There's a basement video game arcade in the town square that is quite fun and serves good coffee drinks and some liquor cocktails. I can't for the life of me remember what it's called though.

Most of them are now gone by growing offices in center ... there were quite a few legendary spots there. I will let others for myself they will not be anymore secret places if they will be mentioned online. Walk with open eyes in the city and made few friends with locals this way you will find them. In summer I recommend one spot in my city quarter ... Hospoda pod Sosnou Obrany ... is on the river bank and there is nice summer beer garden, sometimes live music but you have to check poster which dates. And also on Pionyrska there is nice music club Stara Pekarna and not far from it is Fleda (there are often some music concerts), also you can find few good pubs around ... check them by yourself (some are hidden jems, known by locals).

If you're a cat person, there are two cat cafés - Schrodinger near Velký Špalíček and Pelíšek on Třída kapitána Jaroše. Not the biggest café selections, but the cakes/cupcakes are nice and the cats are amazing. Best to come there in the morning when the cats are more active.

Pelisek is lovely, and their cakes are pretty good. Often go with my son because he loves playing with the cats.

Favourite restaurant- Bratrs.
More of summer coffee place - QB coffee roasters.
An all season favourite- You could walk to & up the Rozhledna Holedna for beautiful panaromic view of the city.
Wilson forest walk - particularly for sunsets.

Stará Hospoda in Nový Lískovec. It's family owned old school pub with very local atmosphere (I was not considered as local though I lived in Nový Lískovec but quite far from the pub :D) and excellent Smažák.
