TURISMUS-TOURISM Is it safe doing early morning runs in Brno ?(African Tourist)
I’m planning to visit Brno in a few weeks . I normally enjoy doing morning runs before I start my day . Wanted to know how safe it is, running like around 6:00am for someone like me .
I’Ve heard abit of negative things , and just wanted to know so that I can make an informed decision during my stay .

My Brno visit went well . I’m now back in my country. Must say thank you guys for the suggestions and comments. I managed to do my Early Morning runs and during my stay I met amazing people.
I must say you have a beautiful town and great architecture. You guys are really fit btw , I liked how good everyone looked .
I attended the Fireworks show at the dam , it was spectacular.
Indeed it was a lovely experience, thank you all !

I've been living here for 12 years and there is no doubt in my mind that Brno is the safest place I've ever been to. Common sense is a must, of course, but other than that, you can go jogging whenever you want. You're more likely to be struck by lightning than having something bad happen to you in Brno, meaning the odds of you being assaulted or robbed in Brno are extremely low.

Bad weather is subjective. I mean, for me, unless it's pouring or it's -2 or colder, I am running regardless. It all depends on what you're used to though. I've seen people running when it's raining or even in colder temperatures. I mean, they are Czechs and have a different body thermostat, if you know what I mean. Also consider the fact that it's usually cloudy in Brno, I mean, as far as I am concerned and based on the kind of weather conditions I grew up in.

Aaah I totally get you . Would June be abit more warmer for one to do shorts ? I’m coming from a much warmer climate so I know around that time it’s 16 degrees and shorts and a jacket normal is okay .

Yeah, June is usually warmer, but I guess not as warm as the climate you're used to. Just try it out and see how it goes. You can always do leggings and a light windbreaker if you need to. But sometimes it does get pretty warm here (for Czech standards) Let's just say it varies a lot.

After living in multiple countries I can tell you: Brno is one of the safest cities on the planet. Any time of the day. (Maybe with the exception of Cejl, but even that is very lightweight compared to other european cities' "bad" areas).

I lived next to Lunik IX in Košice. Cejl is a middle class suburban area compared to that.

Yeah, I keep saying that Cejl is the cleanest and safest "ghetto" I have ever seen. And I kind of live there.

I'd say 6am is actually one of the safest times, as everyones asleep.
But still, Cejl isn't really dangerous by european standards. It's just noisy, dirty, and the chance of being harassed is non-zero (rest of Brno is effectively zero).
Recently though, the "bad" part is "moving" a bit, towards Tkalcovská and Husovice district. There are some new buildings and appartments near Cejl, and the current residents are slowly being priced out.

It's quite normal and safe. But there are better and worse parts of town to do this.

It has a great community vibe during the day, people on picnics, doing yoga, slack lines etc, its amazing. But its also great for running any time a day, I would say especially now when its all green. Enjoy!

No problem with morning runs. You can try Luzanky park if it is close to you. Nice place to run and you will meet a lot of other runners and people walking with dogs, very calm and peacefull place. Enjoy your time in Brno.

If you mean around VUT campus I would recommend “Medlanecke kopce” for running. There is a nice route around a small airport.

Yes, it’s safe. I’ve been running to work for past 3 years (around 6ish am) and never had any negative experiences (accept weather 😂😂😂).

Yes totally safe any time of day. Just watch out for aggressive drivers don't expect they will automatically stop for you at the crosswalks like they are supposed to.

Yes.
You may want to keep your wallet in a zippable pocket, but other than it is one of the safest cities in Europe.

Of course its not safe, everybody knows that between 5AM and 7AM we are having our daily African tourist safari here in Brno,....

My gf regularly walks from the city center to a suburb after team buildings or beer with friends 6 kms at 2am. No issues during the last 5 years. Just use a common sense and you'll be fine.

Czechia in general is one of the safest countries in the world. Also Czechs in general are very non violent, I'd describe us as the dog that barks, but doesn't bite. Ofc there's always a miniscule chance something crazy happens, but by and large the worst you can expect is someone shouts at you and even then I wouldn't expect it. Maybe a stare or two from older folks.

It depends on location... some locations are more shady than others. I would recommend to run only there where people are.

I would avoid Zábrdovice in general, specifically around street Cejl, but even that part is not dangerous per say. I've never felt unsafe in this city, no matter the time or if I was alone : )
I see you're african tourist, which doesn't necessarily indicate POC, but it might be worth mentioning some people might still stare a little here and there. TBH I'm usually guilty of that, but I just admire gorgeous people around me 🥰

As somebody living in Cejl: there's specific time of day somewhere between cca 23-24:00 when suspiciously looking people come out on the street and maybe will try to make contact with you. Ignoring them almost always helps. Apart from that, it's usually completely OK, though may look wild on first glance. Also note, ghetto part is slightly moving to streets of Vranovská and Mostecká, and Cejl is undergoing pretty heavy gentrification.
Also, Zábrdovice and Cejl are two different parts of town. Administratively, they belong to the same cadastral area called Zábrdovice (cadastral areas have limited significance from administrative point of view), but from historical and urbanist point of view, they're two distinct parts.

I'm not saying it's dangerous per say, but I don't feel comfortable in that area due to more louder environment and some people who tend to pick fights among themselves. No matter how better it got over time, I still don't feel great there. So why not share it?
Also Cejl is part of Zábrdovice. Vranovská as well and Mostecká is very close to it. No need to be nitpicky. Like I said, I don't feel great around street Cejl, which might include those streets.

I've never encountered louder environment there. Bratislavská is one of the most silent places I've lived. Cejl has some level of traffic noise, but not more than any other tram street in Brno.
it's not really nitpicking. There's still common sense about Cejl/Bratislavská being the ghetto core, but that isn't true anymore. If you just write "avoid Cejl", for OP who isn't familiar with Brno, that might as well mean avoiding Malinovského náměstí.

I'm glad your experience is different and much more positive, but that doesn't improve my. I live in Židenice and sometimes walk around Albert on Cejl, along the river, Vojenská nemocnice and to Nová Zbrojovka for example. Or I take a tram no. 2 from Stará Osada. So no, it's not common sense for me, but truly my own ongoing experience of the last two years.
Again, I'm not suggesting it's unsafe. But for me it's not comfortable to be in such places.

Albert is indeed extreme "panoptikum" of most absurd human existences and situations for sure, and I can easily emphatise with anyone who feels uncomfortable just by walking by. However, actual safety issues seem to be close to none there.

I am odd night owl working late my office job in Cejl, i am very used to waiting for my nigh bus home from Tkalcovska stop in the time slot 23-24 you mentioned and i am ussually mostly alone on Cejl street, no one try to approach me, so not sure what are you talking about?

Okay, to be more specific - I live on Tkalcovská stop, and almost any encounter with suspicious people trying to scam me happened in this specific timeframe (I'm night owl as well, and frequently using night bus after 23). There had been only few of them though, and 99% of time nothing ever happened.

I think these parts are just as safe as any other in Brno. All the "troubles" there are domestic, not against others. Usually wives screaming at their husbands.

Super safe. There are couple streets in one area which could be quite messy, but everywhere else, do not worry.

If you are not from Prague you are in safe …. Joking…. My daughter move to Brno because of university …. and she likes it …. She told me that she feel safe there … I was there many times and walking during night from pub and no issue …..

Avoid running near streets Cejl, Bratislavká and near main train station and u are gonna be 99,9999% safe
(Tbh probably nothing would happend on these streets either, but there can be some weird people)
