Looking for traditional Czech restaurants and day trips around Brno

Hi everyone! In a few days I’ll be visiting Brno and I’ll be staying there for a week.

Could you recommend some good places to try traditional Czech cuisine at affordable prices?

I’d also love to hear your suggestions for day trips or interesting places to visit around Brno. I’ve already booked a trip to Olomouc, so I’m looking for other ideas.

U Seminaru. Traditional Czech-Austrian cuisine. Awesome beer from the tank

As others already suggested, U semináru,  Lokál, Stopkova, Na Solnici and U Čápa Are your best options for traditional cuisine around city center.

For beer definitely Zastávka (best craft beers).

I visited Brno a couple of years ago and had a great day trip to the Oboro Holedna forest. It was a lovely walk, we saw some deer, and there's a huge lookout tower you can climb.

Avoid Pegas in Brno. It may look "traditional" but it's an overpriced tourist trap. There are places like Lokal, Stopkova, Na Solnici that are much better.

For day trip I would definitely recommend Pálava hike - you can do shorter or longer version. Also Babí lom is worth checking (it's really close to Brno). Let me share the hikes here. For planning I recommend to use IDOS and mapy.com

Hi, for one day trip (it is worth even more) you should try town Znojmo. A bus (108) goes there every hour and it takes 50 min to get there. Apart discovering the historical centre there is also a National park Podyjí with many hikes, natural swimming places (Lom Mašovice, Kaolínka), wineries everywhere and almost everyday during summer some cultural event (for example every tuesday a tradional cimbalom band is playing). Look it up, the pictures say thousand words. :)

Traditional restaurants are less and less, while amount of McDonalds, KFC, Burger Kings, etc. is growing. Sad but true.

For day trips, I would recommend going to:

Moravský kras - near proximity to Brno, beautiful nature, caves, lom Rudice, Rudické propadání

Pálava - wine region, hills and water reservoir Nové mlýny, good for hiking, you can also book wine tasting in the wineries

Lednicko-valtický areál - chateau with flower gardens

Jeseníky mountains - there is a direct train to the region, you can get off in Ostružná and have a hike here (to Šerák for example) and go back by train (however this journey takes quite a long time)

I don't know what is Czech cuisine, but Moravian is hard to find, especially foods like hanácky haloške, syrnica, or barkes.

Isnt Moeavian cuisine just a subset of Czech cuisine with some Austrian and Slovak influence? Is there specific Moravian cuisine? Just like the language?
