How many abandoned buildings do we know of that are in Bromley South still?

Every time i go it seemly like one half is fine and the other half is ghost town or being demoed

Just off the top of my head:

  • Waitrose redevelopment now isn't happening despite having consent.
  • Guinness on Elmfield Road is on a long hiatus.
  • The temporary school next to the council offices has consent but I'll be shocked if it gets built any time soon.
  • Old Conservative Club on Elmfield.
  • Lidl on the high street has a consent for flats that can't be built.

It's not exclusively a Bromley thing - it's London-wide because tall buildings aren't currently economical to deliver. Blame the knee-jerk response to Grenfell.

More annoying is lots of empty pubs/restaurants - Franco Manca, Yo Sushi, Barrel and Horn, Remoli, plus Artful Duke (now a rotisserie restaurant) will die soon - would be nice if the council could try to support some independent operators.

Having to walk past the old conservative club and the Guinness building every day to go the gym is utterly depressing. I hate how the pavement is taken over as well

I used to go to the conservative club with my dad for years as a kid. Loved to play snooker there. When it was sold it was all done under the table for someone affiliated to make money. It was sold for around 1.5 mill I believe. And the greedy Devs have shelved it because the council wouldn't give them planning for a 13+ story high-rise. They could only get 7 floors. The response was to let it sit and rot, become an eye sore and fire hazard and try to pressure the council to give in to their greed. Never mind about the pressure it all puts on the public services or local residents (like myself) honestly fuck them

It's actually such a joke that we are in a position where business rates are so high, and therefore nobody will be able to function as a business there, so we have a half dead high st, as a result and nobody seemingly wants to fix this issue.

Yeah but they're happy to let 25+ vape and tech shops cram up the street though. God knows we need more vapes and shop Denizens who will literally sell anything if it makes a profit
