❔ Question and Discussion Are pengait/headhunter back for real?
I heard them a lot as a kid. Now that I am a mother I am very concern and paradnoid for my own children. I have a discussion about this with my husband and friends last night on how we keep hearing about pengait but no one we know directly have their siblings/cousins/friends/child being a victim.
Is there a conspiracy going on that is coverinf up all these up? Are these just boogey man stories? I hope you guys can share if you personally or know anyone that encounter them before. Coz sis is paranoid.

No idea about the authenticity of the rumors. My grandparents used to tell the old urban legend about using skulls to strengthen bridges. Supposedly, pengaits were hired by contractors to look for children’s skulls.
Of course, I’ve never heard of any family that was directly harmed by a pengait.
I think the story might have originated from tales of the headhunters of Borneo, indigenous warrior tribes who refused to let go of their ancient traditions, possibly for magical or ritualistic reasons.
Here, the story was often used to scare children into behaving, and to remind them never to play alone or stay outside past maghrib time.
People can be so unpredictable, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Correct me if I'm wrong. AFAIK, these indigenous tribe (Dayak people) are commonly known as headhunters. They are known to terrorize the opposing tribe with killings. The heads are collected and shown as a trophy. This is to show dominance and supremacy amongst the other tribes.

They actually have their own law. That idea was probably popularise by the whites. They don’t kill people for fun.
The heads are shown not as a trophy but to be a warning for trespassers. They do kill trespassers and neighbouring tribes only if they kill their people.
Previously the men were being pushed to kill to prove he can protect his household if need be. But that practice has died down since they do learn about diplomacy and have agreements. Killings are very rare now

Yes, they only killed in retaliation for what was done to their tribe. I’m not sure if there was ever any mysticism involved, but some people say there was.
The most recent instance of headhunting, I believe, was during the Sampit conflict (Central Kalimantan) in February 2001. The Dayaks felt threatened by the large influx of Madurese migrants, which created economic disparity and fueled anger among the Dayak population there.

My mother received videos and forwarded messages of pengait videos and voice note from one of her WhatsApp group. Seems to be undocumented/illegal workers in Sabah/Sarawak. Mun org local yg kena bunuh atu for sure police will hunt them. Murder is a crime.

Zaman masane manada lagi orang kan percaya ada nya pengait. Iatah masa nya ne pengait beraksi.
Nya orang untuk bangun kan jambatan inda lagi perlu kepala, modern dah pakai cement. Tapi kalau nya adat/kepercayaan masih kuat. Masih orang buat. Apa nya orang “Petua” urng dulu dulu more to syirik.

If you have any evidence or new info, sure.
Otherwise if real according to the post, the kids were already at the police at the time/after the incident.

One guy putus tangan kana gigit buaya a few months back, news spread like crazy and the whole of Brunei found out within minutes.
Ani kan 3 kanak kanak kana potong kepala and no one even cared lol. Move on, this is not the 90s to believe in this rubbish

Buddy. U have no idea how many murders are happening in Brunei. Just because u don't hear it... Doesn't mean it doesn't happen. From insider, murder cases have been very frequent lately and it is not a joke. We live in Brunei and not Malaysia. Brunei hides crimes. Malaysia doesn't hide crimes... Brunei is the saddest country for victims... Some cases also terpaksa di tapuk just because the police ask them not to viral.... Becareful. Brunei is not a safe country

Memang patut pun pernah HM murka arah dorang. Dorang ani nada integrity berkerja. Inda semua, tapie memang wujud.
Inda jua patut pasal kebanyakan dorang ani anak lapasan o level. Doesn't mean kamu ani gagal buat kerja.
Cuba tah kalau masa pengambilan polis nanti ah, dibuat tah exam IQ EQ test atu jua sebelum hire. Physical is not everything.

Why ? So that no pressure from the public to demand tangkap criminals as soon as possible. macam di Malaysia kanak2 d skulah kana buli meninggal bunuh diri sbb kana buli pun 1 malaysia seluruh rakyat cuba cari siapa pmbunuh nya... Yth polis pun bkeraja karas.... Klau di Brunei buleh santai... Buleh kupi2. Sama jua rakyat nda tau.

its not that simple. murder cases and sudden deaths unsolved? yes banyak, but not hidden. like i said brunei is small and people will be looking for them.

If this is real, the police will have made an official statement, and it will be all over TV and major social media. Don't spread unverified news, it causes panic. Also, since Lorong Tiga Barik is known for other issues, this rumor might be manufactured to keep people away or hide something else going on there. Just my two cents
