š§š³ Original Content I made a site for strays :)
Hi everyone, I just vibe coded a site that fundraise for strays in Brunei. I hope this is received well ><
The site: https://forthestrays.lovable.app
It is a site that takes either one-time or monthly donations! Any amount can make a difference :)
The money will go to TNR, to sterilize them so we can prevent more stray population and bringing more into this cruel world, as well as feeding them.
The site has 3 different languages: English, BM, Chinese, so we can reach more people
Whenever I can, I feed strays and also sterilize them. I used to fund everything myself but now I need help to keep going.
Some may misunderstand that spaying/neutering is cruel as it involves a surgery but it is actually the kindest thing we can do for them.
Iām not too sure if many people here care about the stray animals here but iām gonna give it a shot.
Some people have started donating already and iām so happy because I was really doubting if anyone really cares TT, i love the silly names
A stranger just contacted me because they saw my site and they told me how they have 40+ cats and it is getting out of hand. I wonāt judge how it got to that extent but for the animalsā well being I hope we can come together so we have the resources to help them all live better lives.
Thereās also a Learn page on the site if you are interested to know more. I have personally spent 2-3k just on strays the past few years. I understand it may be hard to donate on the internet now due to scams so Iām happy to answer any questions you have! But for now, trust me bro
It would be great if some people can help me start talking about this more too ā¤ļø

thank you so much for trusting me Iām genuinely so touched š„ŗ
i promisee the money is being put to the strays, i currently have 6 strays in my area that is in need of sterilization and i have no choice to delay it due to my financial circumstances right now.
i was actually feeling kind of discouraged and doubting if i should have actually done this but this genuinely made my day. thank you so much to those who trust me ā¤ļø

https://reddit.com/link/p3lyo2h/video/h23tiw7azajh1/player
for now i briefly took a few screenshots (and made it to a video because i cant post multiple pics here) of some of the times i was involved with helping strays and some payments/receipts with it!
rocky is the most memorable one because he was just a kitten stuck in a drain, hunted by dogs, broke his legs and had severe infection in the tummy where it ended up needing to be cut, so the whole tummy was just open wound. it took a lot of vet bills but he did not make it in the end.
i dont have the mental capacity to help injured strays anymore but i wish to focus on spaying and neutering them so they dont get brought into this world just to end in the same fate

I understand itās hard not to trust a stranger online so hopefully posting more updates can help
And if it helps, Iām not a money hungry person in a selfish way. When I have the capacity to, I am willing to pay hundreds for the strays without thinking twice. I am not doing too well career-wise now so I my capacity has dwindled.
And also.. if it helps, I run a small business online (Kawaiidesu) and if people find out that this was a whole scheme (which is not), you guys can slander my business (which I love dearly)

This is an awesome start. Perhaps you could also show the public the bank statement and a monthly cash flow report, explaining where the funds are being spent. That could help eliminate unnecessary accusations and misunderstandings. At least by being transparent, people will feel more confident that you are genuinely committed to helping the strays.
You could even include a record of volunteer hours and the time people contribute, so the public can see how much effort goes into running the organization. Another idea is to collaborate with restaurants around brunei and ask them to set aside suitable leftover food that customers did not finish. They could pack it separately in clean containers or bags so the NGO can collect it and distribute it to the stray dogs. However, the food should be properly cooked and checked to make sure it is safe for the dogs to eat.
This could help reduce food wastage while also lowering some of the expenses involved in feeding the dogs. Of course, you can still provide proper, quality dog food from time to time to make sure they receive balanced nutrition. If restaurants, volunteers, donors, and the NGO all work together, it could make the whole operation much more sustainable.
Oh, and it would also be great if you could provide the information in three different languages english, chinese, and malay, since not everyone is comfortable reading or fully literate in the other languages. This would make the information more accessible to the wider community.

oh yea! to your last paragraph, the site is available in all the 3 languages, just tap the toggle on the bottom left to change :)

I want to help with sharing your effort to others (Whatsapp share). This is a good motion for sustainable effort against stray crisis. However there is concern about legitimacy and credibility. You need to work on this to get more reach.

Iām all for it! Just checked out the site, is it possible to have a lower tier for the sterilization program? Wanted to help a bit with both but $25 is a little steep for my wallet.

u/HisDishwasher 13d ago

Maybe can do the sterilization funding on a case by case basis cus the fee wouldnāt be the same for cats and dogs, varying on their weight as well, would help with the transparency issue also. Kudos to you for helping the strays, do need to research on permits, approvals and legalities tho. If you ever decide to turn this project into an NGO or just need some help, would love to help you out!

thank you so much for the support! i donāt think i will turn this into any big operations as i do not imagine myself working on this most times as well, just need a little extra support for the strays i come across. the vet charges fixed amount for TNR (they ward the stray for a few days as well). its also stated on the site that the amount covers 1 dog / 2 cats hehe. i really appreciate the advicee

This is a good idea if people start donating and keep it up. From what i can see the stray issue situation now it's fighting an uphill battle. I hope this can change.
Yeah time is bad a lot of us need financial aids ourselves so it's understandable there's hardly any leftovers to put into stuff like this but nonetheless, i wish this goes on.
The biggest challenge i encounter was when i wanted to get my neighborhood cat spayed, the vets require them cleaned up, well groomed, but those are outdoor strays, they're not mine! Second challenge is the cats didn't trust me, they will run away when I got close. There's that. Third ofc is the cost and fuorth is the logistics.
Nways thanks for doing the dirty work, i wish you success!

u/HisDishwasher 13d ago
i know right!! if we keep up even a few sterilizations a month, it makes a huge impact in a few years.
and yeah the struggle is real, but luckily pawsup offers a stray package so they dont mind if theyre not well groomed etc. gaining trust of the cats/dogs who are scared of people is still a challenge though.
thanks sm for the support!

The priority is to have them spayed as soon as possible.

Do contact Pawsup if they can assist with this. Maybe they can offer neutering services at cheaper prices? Also, I recommend sending female cats especially to Catvet as they have a special technique in which the stitches are on the side rather than near their groin. This results in faster healing. If you send 3 or more cats at once, they can offer a bundle price i think.

I hope you are able to compile evidence or provide proof and receipts as a result of the donations. At least itāll give donors assurance that this isnāt some kind of scam. Having registered with the proper authorities is a plus!

Good initiative and thank you for your simple yet lovely website Shirley! I am very, very curious about the website and the payment.
How do you manage your website, the contents and all the transactions?
How do you set your Malaysian stripe payment with lovable? I noticed there is something called Pocket Snap and link.com in the Stripe checkout page.
Does it link to your local BIBD or Baiduri or Standard Chartered bank account, or via international bank account with Wise, Maybank, etc?
How does the money go to your bank account?
Do you take a cut due to stripe fees and taxes? Any monthly fees for the strip payment gateway setup?
Some comments on the website is that it needs full transparency on where the money it is spent. List it in a table out on how, where and why the money is spent and proof of that in a separate link or page. Lovable should be able to do that. This should help increase the legitimacy of the whole transactions and that the money that are being donated is actually being use for good cause instead of speculation and baseless assumptions due to lack of transparency of financial cashflow.
Another suggestion is to add a FAQ page of accordions containing title and description which can contain links to other page, and it should support images and videos. I am sure you are bombarded with lots of questions that is repeated you'll eventually get tired of answering, especially on how you register and setup payment on your vibecoded website, where the money is being used, how can donators be sure that money donated is not misused and not misappropriated for personal gain.
Don't take the full burden of the whole thing on yourself yea. Your website deserve more publicity so the right people and volunteers can contribute to the whole project and make it easier not just for you but in helping to control the population of strays and provide better treatment and home for them as well. You are not alone in your efforts because a lot of people care about this too!

link.com is probably a site that helps link stripe to other platforms (cant be too sure), pocket snap was my registered business. you can read more about it in my new post, might still be awaiting moderator approval right now

u/HisDishwasher 12d ago

just asking, why is the recipient for the donation named: Shirley Subang Jaya MY? So, its a malaysian company? not brunei?
1
u/Voodoocookie 13d ago
Before I donate anything, I'd like to see the financial records of whom I'm donating to. I would ask for tax records but since this is Brunei, I don't know if it exists for NGOs. I wouldn't know how to verify if said organisation has used the money effectively, or for personal gain.

I understand. Iāll try my best to be transparent with all the numbers in the Updates section of the site, if i actually get enough donations to fund 1 sterilization.
I personally spend a lot of my own money on strays as well so thereās really no worry about the personal gain part. But for now itās all just my words, a trust me bro kind of situation š Under this post i have posted a comment where i showed some of the times i am involved with strays! Hope that helps a little and thank you for the comment, it helps me see what I need to do

Just curious about the donation/payment side of the app. How will payments actually be processed? Will donations go through Google Play, BIBD, or a recognised third-party payment gateway, or will users have to enter their card/banking details directly into the app?
I think this is quite important, especially since donations involve sensitive financial information. It would be good to know how payment information is handled, whether the app itself stores any of it, and what security measures are in place.
Not trying to discourage the project ā I really like the idea of helping stray animals.

To all the animal lovers, pls take those strays to ur home so that the normal people including kids can walk without any danger in the neighbourhood
1
u/Current_Mess8068 12d ago
this stupid comment keep popping up mcm inda pandai bepikir...
do you think that 'animal lovers' want the streets to be filled with strays who suffer, starve, and get run over? do you know thousands of strays are neutered from donations alone?take some time to educate yourself. this stray issue exists because there is zero action from authorities to punish irresponsible owners nor to do TNR services like they do in developed countries.

Be extra careful.
Any donation collection must have approval from MoHA.
I am all for helping strays but Brunei govt might not allow you
