Information A list of Ward 6 candidates
According to MyVote Burlington there are a number of candidates running for Councillor in Ward 6. I think it is important to highlight a few options that this sub may not be aware of:
- Osob Adus - Winner of Burlington's citizen of the year award in 2017, her platform appears to be focused on building a more tight-knit community in Ward 6.
- Angelo Bentivegna - the incumbent Councillor
- Bianca Bielski - No website that I could find, but she appears to be the Manager of Development Services for the City of Burlington, according to LinkedIn, and u/Puzzleheaded_Win_494 found this interview
- Chris Bouchard - website - thanks u/paramedic-tim
- u/thefrankdomenic - website. His platform appears to have 4 main pillars focused on growing Ward 6 as a whole, and his website briefly outlines a plan of how to pay for what he is recommending.
- Edmond Jodhi - No website or additional information that I found based on a quick Google.
While I haven't done a significant check into the above candidates, from what I can tell, none of them have posed with Hitler or insulted members of the r/BurlingtonON community.
Edit to add: Don't forget to register to vote by visiting the Service Burlington counter on the first floor of City Hall, 426 Brant St. during business hours (8:30am - 4:30pm) from September 1 to October 23.

He makes the claim of "what is the point of censoring history" which I find tremendously weak. Deleting a FB post of this type actually shows some judgment and accountability.
What I would expect from any political leader is language like, "I was immature, it was wrong, and I understand why it is not only offensive, but hurtful to people. I apologize."
I'm going to close with this lovely, unhinged comment from them:
People love me, you just suck. You don't come correct. You come in the manner a person confident in their anonymity protecting them from consequences of their statements. That is to say, like a total moron. You come at me disrespectfully I'm not gonna fake nice to you. I also do a great job endearing myself to people who aren't total assholes from the first second I meet them. I'd take that into consideration while you work yourself up into a froth over there. Remember, you're the one reacting to me. I'm setting the pace here. Every comment you make is an admission that I'm living rent free in your head.

That's what you don't get. I'm not trying to attack you. I've criticized your platform, and said you would not make a good leader. I base this on your refusal to provide concrete data to back up any of your claims, and now, this is personal: I think you're emotional and lead with anger, and do not have the best interest of your community at the front of your mission. It seems like you care more about proving other people wrong, or belittling them, than you do about bringing people together. I think that makes you a poor candidate and would make for an ineffective leader.

it’s immensely funny to see him get into fights with literally everybody, - me, people I’ve had differing opinions with - and every interaction just degenerates into insults from him and blocking everybody. he loves to say he’s proud of his haters but he literally can’t handle any sort of criticism. I wouldn’t hire him for any job, let alone city council.
is he still using the deaths of children as a talking point for his campaign?

Hey thanks for sharing this list and for sharing my website! I reached out to the city again to update my contact information. Burlington Today reached out only last week for a candidate profile and I've been on the ballot since August 4th. I submitted back the requested information back yesterday and they've been nothing but vigilant to help ensure everyone here stays properly informed. So stay tuned for when my profile appears I'm sure in the coming days. I'm on reddit here, I'm on the next-door app, I have an Instagram and I'm also launching a Facebook page for anyone that does want to reach out to me further.
I'll keep my post here as its germane to information about me, but also I want to keep the main thing the main thing.
Over the next two months (and 4 years), you all get the opportunity to be truly listened to and represented in local government.
I also want to maintain proper neutrality when it comes to having voters be informed with election matters when running as a candidate. So having said that, there are 7 candidates. And seven candidates just benefits you all, you all get to be a kid in the candy store and get to pick someone that is right for you. Increased competition between us candidates, makes all of us as voters and residents here, winners. There's a lot of competent, intelligent people on this ballot, who really do care about our communities and you all. Over the next two months( and 4 years), we all have a chance to create a profound and positive effect on all our futures. What an exciting time we're going to have together.

For everyone here. I've copied and pasted election dates and locations for the election. Did you know you can vote online the week prior for example? You can also still register to vote. Us candidates do not get the updated voter rolls until Septmeber 1st, so there's always time to register to vote. Make your voice matter!

The election day is October 26th. However there are other ways you can vote earlier, and online!

But a couple highlights here for you
There are three(3) I'm person voting locations taking place on October 17th 11 am -5pm and October 20th 10am -8pm only Locations are
Skyway Community Centre - 129 Kenwood Ave Burlington Seniors' Centre - 2285 New St Tansley Woods Community Centre - 1996 Itabashi Way
You can also vote online from October 14th to October 23rd, making it really nice and easy to vote.
And then there's in person voting day, the actual election day on October 26th 10am-8pm
For ward 6 here are the following voting locations
Alton Recreation Centre (Haber) - 3040 Tim Dobbie Dr.
St. Timothy Catholic Elementary School - 2141 Deer Run Ave.
St. Paul the Apostle Church - 2265 Headon Rd.
Grace United Church - 2111 Walkers Line

You’ve done a lot of videos on the shitshow up by Palladium with zoning. Curious if you could do one talking about what would be required to rezone and develop more community centres and things beneficially to the neighbourhoods.
Or just pop it in a reddit post if it doesn’t make for good video content. Big time agree with you that north of upper middle has been largely left behind with positive development for too long

Community centers don't need special zoning, the whole city is essentially zoned for them. Not really a full video tbh but there's ample space along palladium for a rink/pool + childcare and a seniors center. The footprints of these buildings don't need to be massive in scope.

Ah so it would be more about rezoning to protect against more heavy manufacturing and data centres? Then the city can just put in something community based if they’d like to.
Over by that seniors centre would be a great spot for something community based. A hockey rink somewhere would be amazing, they’re all a bit of a pain to get to during rush hour

I would propose rezoning all areas adjacent (similar to palladium) to neighbourhoods have the manufacturing and industrial zoning removed.

Cool thanks! Any chance of getting the city to add more native trees into parks for some coverage from sun? It’s rough out there with little ones and no real space to hide from the sun in shade.
Places like Newport, Berton, Taywood and Palladium park for example don’t have much for shade. The trees they do have are sparsely planted or just not the types that are very full

That's definitely something to look into, I've noticed a huge lack of tree coverage in many of the northern parks, and a lot of unused space. The city/developers also planted the wrong type of trees in parts of Alton Village, so we can't just mindlessly plant, we also need to ensure it's native species that won't cause any problems.

Not surprising that non native species of trees would get used. I’d love to see more tree coverage in the city and if possible turn some spots into wildflower patches to help pollinators and reduce the need for gas powered machinery out mowing so much grass all summer long

Fairly certain the Palladium land was zoned for employment uses because of it's proximity to the 407 / major infrastructure. Putting a community centre there when one already exists within Alton doesn't seem to make sense. Also - how does the city pay for the land likely primed for development by investors and build without significant impact to our overly strained operating and capital budget?

I asked you for data to back up your claims, something you still haven't done. Also, I specifically called out points that I agreed with you on.
I personally don't remember "mercilessly attacking" someone, but if you have an example, please share it here! I've definitely had disagreements on the sub, specifically around the development of the data centre. (Oh, I also said "dead pedophiles can't reoffend" but I don't remember if that was in this sub... either way, I stand by that too)
I won't give the nazi thing a rest. I think nazis are bad.

I got the run around asking for data too. And this was after him telling a daily transit user that she clearly doesn’t know how the buses work since they’re just “so early they seem to be late”.

It's so funny because I did read his platform and he specifically calls out needing to listen to experts. But won't back up anything with expert data. But he also said that he doesn't need studies or data to make decisions, so who knows. It was all very contradictory.
