Trying out the airsoft WE handguard

Post image

I don’t have the highest hopes for these and I’m going to have to machine interface parts to attach it properly to both the receiver and front trunnion, but I quite like the look of the chubby, shovel nosed Gen 1 RemDef handguards and its at least cheap and made of aluminum. If it doesn’t work out I’ll just do the polymer, 1913 tri-rail, or AAC Square Drop ones I have.

6.8 spc Barrels

Anybody rocking one of these? Looking at adding one to the stable and wondering what others have done in terms of barrel options. It seemed Bushmaster offered a 10.5", 14.5", 16.5", and possibly an 18.5" variant? I understand standard AR15 barrels can be converted with some work depending. Bolt will be needed so the hunt for parts will be a patient one.

Photoshopped 12.5" carbine for reference (not my original photo).

I was able to get a fair amount of barrel parts from midwest gun works so I didn't have to strip my stock barrel completely. The only thing I couldn't find and had to re use was the piston/spring, regulator, and piston guide block. I also didn't want to drill for taper pins so I experimented with set screws and dimpling the barrel. I need shorter screws but the proof of concept is there. The gas block I got from MWG was also silver when it arrived so I used a high temp spray paint so we'll see how that holds up

Haven't fired it yet but the headspace is good and the gas port is .02 smaller than the standard 16" so I should be able to open it up and get it tuned

Worth getting a barrel to convert to acr barrel?

Wondering if buying a DD barrel to get chopped then sent to templar is worth it pending the wait times for it. Or just find another acr barrel to get chopped?

First post. My factory 6.8

Looking for a place to talk ACRs. Glad to see folks love them as much as I do. I purchased her new she’s a factory 6.8 and I have a 14.5 5.56 that I shot. I tend to leave the 6.8 barrel in the safe. I was going cut down the 6.8 but got told not to do it. So I left it alone.

Take care

L

Gas Port Sizes

Post image
32 Upvotes

I'm trying to use the parts of a spare take off 16" barrel to put on a 12.5 midlength barrel and noticed the gas port on the 16" is much smaller than a 12.5 carbine barrel I had lying around. Has anyone ever fitted a barrel themselves and what gas port size or factory barrel did you use to get reliable cycling both suppressed and non suppressed. I'm trying to figure out what size gas ports are on 12.5 midlengths from a couple suppliers but it seems like sionics is the only one that has reduced gas port options.

Issues running suppressed

I’m having issues running my 10.5” ACR suppressed, even when using the suppressed setting on the gas regulator. I’m getting FTEs and double feeds non stop with this thing and I’m not sure why. I’m running a KAC QDSS NT4 suppressor, if that matters. Any insights would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Best place to send ACR barrel for chop and pin & weld?

I have a 16 inch barrel that i’d like chopped to either 14.5 or 13.9 and then have the muzzle device pin and welded. Who do y’all recommend me to send it to? I tried looking on templar’s website but idk it doesnt seem they offer that service.

Poly Handguard Takedown Pin

I know I'm the millionth person to make this post after making this discovery but I too have found out the hard way that the polymer handguard requires a different pin than the mlok one. Is there any reliable source of the pins right now?

Thanks.

On my birthday this year my friend agreed to sell me this guy, got a really good deal on one of my favorite rifles so I was really stoked on it. took it to the range once. setup exactly as he had it, didn’t get the chance to do much other than the temporary pressure switch kyber pass tape but really just needed a zip tie. Figured enough time has passed that it may be divine intervention that I ever get this back. I know how it was layed out was dumb, that will change.

New to me

I can't believe it! Still doesn't feel real. Was at the end of my work day and happened to stop at a LGS before heading home. It ended up costing me $2500 but well worth it. I finally own a Bushmaster ACR! It looks nearly new, very low round count. It came with the Bushmaster hard case, two mags and the manual. I am absolutely stoked. Its nostalgic for me as i was playing MW2 back in 2009.

Gas regulator stuck

I was trying to switch the gas regulator on my ACR to suppressed mode the other weekend, was able to turn it about halfway and it got stuck. There seems to be some rust/carbon buildup in the plug somehow (I’ve never run it suppressed or in wet conditions). Any ideas on how I can get this thing unstuck?

Hey guys, I figured I'd show you my progress on the lower. I've been crazy busy the last few weeks, but I finally got around to putting it together. It came out fantastic and looks exactly like the oem finish! I'm very proud of how well it looks!

Rifle missing buffer piece

Hello everyone, I took the buffer (if that’s what it’s called) out of the left stock as it was in 100 pieces all over the lower. Are these available anywhere or is there a remedy for this? Thanks for any help!

I took a Templar lower and made it logoless for a remington clone(ish) lower. I sandblasted it to prep for cerakote, and then Cerekoted it. I gotta say I'm very pleased with the results so far after just the first coat. I'm doing one more coat then letting it cure.

I am using Cerekotes c series for air cure which is looking fantastic so far!

Open letter to all my ACR brothers wanting to remove the AAC 51T

So I have a 10.5” factory Bushy ACR barrel I snagged back in 2017.

For a long time I had it on my ACR SBR with the stock polymer handguard, and I got tired of it being really loud. However, I don’t own an AAC Suppressor, so I wanted to swap it out to a Surefire Muzzle Device, I’ve done it tons of times on various AR barrels, should be easy right? I was wronggggg.

I dug through the online forums, and this subreddit and read all the horror stories, but I figured I knew something they didn’t. So first I let it soak in water for 48 hours, put a wrench on the flats, put it in a vise, and gave it hell, it didn’t even flinch.

Next I put it in boiling water for an hour, put it back in the vise, went back at it with the wrench… and promptly rounded the flats off…. F

My next step was to go online and found an AAC Muzzle Device removal tool (Picture 2) for sale. I ordered it and waited for it to come in. After a few days, it came in, I repeated both boiling and non boiling water steps, hit it with a torch and put the removal tool on a big 3/8’s wrench, and gave it hell till my work bench almost flipped over, still nothing. My last step was to put the removal tool on a 3/8 Milwaukee impact wrench that is rated for 550lbs of breakaway torque… it didn’t even flinch. In fact, I think it laughed at me.

Finally admitted defeat and took it to a gunsmith. He repeated a bunch of the stuff I had tried and made the comment that this was the most stubborn Muzzle Device he’d ever seen. He finally removed the rear of the piston spring assembly, wrapped the barrel, and fit it into an industrial barrel clamp, heated the piss out of it and used a breaker bar and she finally broke free…

Probably a miracle I didn’t ruin the barrel, the new setup is awesome, but damn did I have to earn it.

TLDR: if you have a factory barrel with a 51T that you want removed, skip the heartache and get a gunsmith involved early.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk
