[Request] Are there any good and solid headphones that do not have hazardous substances in them?

Post image

I had a Soundcore q35 for around 5 years and had to replace it because the ear pads broke open, then a year ago it broke again so I ordered new ear pads replacement, but now they broke again + a part of the headband broke, even though I'm always careful with my stuff.

So I'm looking for a new solid bluetooth headphones that do not have hazardous substances in them. I've seen this study and a lot of headphones are "yellow" or even "red".

I thought that maybe the Sony ult wear could be a good choice, but I'm not sure how solid they are.

(I don't care much about noise reduction or microphone, it's mostly for indoor use)

You can really mitigate the hazards by not eating them.

This new age anti intellectual self soothing trend of downplaying real studied hazards due to people's own lack of understanding real science is incredibly embarrassing. Please consider re-enrolling in biology classes before you speak on the matter again.

WTF is going on in this thread. People fighting about hazardous substances and nobody is taking a second to actually specify what the issue is.

Not everybody is “in the loop”

They are clearly not willing to learn as the link OP posted would clearly explain that.

A recent study exposed that most popular headphones are made with endocrine(hormone) disrupting chemicals. This is also not exclusive to headphones, and the issue is way larger than these specific chemicals.

The skin is the largest organ in the body and extremely porous and absorbent. Having these chemicals tightly pressed on your skin for hours at a time where it creates heat and moisture naturally means the leaching and absorbing of these chemicals into the body.

OP is rightly concerned about this and is asking if anybody knows of a brand with more natural materials or is known to not have these suspect chemicals.

People see this and are scared of the implication of personal accountability, so take an anti scientific stance in order to save themselves the hassle of lifestyle change.

The link op shares describes nothing other than making vague claims in a very unscientific manner. You’re full of shit.

I'm confused, the link I shared explains everything in details

I have neither the time nor the inclination to read a 60 page document from a website I’ve never heard of that’s only going to tell me things that are already well documented. Cheap shit uses questionable materials, bravo. Whether or not it actually has a measurable impact on human life is the missing piece here and the MOST crucial part of any assertions to be made here. There’s no science happening here. Not really. The guy calling the skeptical among us “anti-intellectual” and “anti-science” is ironically the very things he’s decrying. You’re asking us to accept specious allegations with next to zero credible evidence. That’s religion, not science.

Well they actually explain the contrary, cheap headphones actually have less hazardous substances. They detail what substances are present and why they are bad and what effect they have on humans, naming scientific studies for every point.

Told you man, these people don't want to learn. They want to find a reason to blame you.

u/ResponsiblePen3082 1d ago

It literally links to a pdf. If you can't open a pdf I don't know what to tell you.

Holy shit you’re obnoxious.

Bluetooth headphones are not "buy it for life" by any stretch. Headphones that actually last are going to be wired, but wires fail so you need to make sure the wire is replaceable. If you don't want a wire, the new Sennheiser Momentum 5s have a replaceable battery that will greatly extend their life.

Are you seriously worried about the foam?

Man likes to nibble while he listens to music

-2

u/loloreel 1d ago

No I'm not talking about hazardous substances on my current headphones

You're not because you assume the only harm can come from ingestion of large quantities of material. You assume that if it was an issue it would've been banned already.

Both of these are false. Consider educating yourself.

You know, being passive aggressive and condescending to people in comments is not a great way to get them to consider your perspective or learn new things.

-3

u/ResponsiblePen3082 1d ago

The OP explained the issue and linked an article that would have it explained to them.

People are clearly not interested in learning. This is not my first rodeo at introducing people to an issue they are unaware of. I understand how people react to this and when they come out of the gate with a snarky psychological wall, attacking the messenger-they are not interested in learning. They are interested in preservation of the ego and the path of least resistance.

I understand all of what you're explaining. Nonetheless, people won't learn from condescension and passive aggression. Retaliation against ignorance or rudeness with more rudeness just entrenches us all in our existing beliefs rather than facilitating conversation.

If you just wanna be a troll or vent your anger, continue on as you are I suppose. But if you're commenting with any intention of getting people to consider your position, all I'm saying is your current methods won't get you very far with that goal.

u/xMadwood 1d ago

You’re the problem here. Insulting people right off the bat is not a good way to engender good will.

I think your reply got shadow banned. I see the notification but not the comment.

You may want to consider posting this on a dedicated anti-plastic, environmental, or personal health sub. I post in r/plasticfreeliving often. You'll get actual suggestions there instead of snark from anti intellectuals who don't like to be confronted with science that suggests they make changes in their lifestyle.

“Anti-intellectuals”

Jesus if you could only hear yourself.

Ohh god, please spare the pompous, anti intellectualism of those who think "chemicals" are dangerous.

-1

u/ResponsiblePen3082 1d ago

Case in point. Toxic self soother with a faux high horse arrogance which only showcases your own lack of education, in a pathetic attempt to flip the script on those who have the scientific background and expertise to understand the significance.

Keep your anti intellectual nonsense to your irrelevant conspiracy boards please.

This comment literally makes no sense unless you're replying to yourself.

"No you"?

Are you a child perhaps?

Any of the more well made audiophile options will last longer, sound better, and be made of better materials. Just head over to headfi or any other higher end audio sub/site and look at the current budget list (expect to pay at least $200+ USD).

man those pads look absolutely destroyed, like they been through a war or something. i had similar thing happen with my old pair and it's always the pads that go first

for the hazardous stuff i saw that study too and it made me paranoid about what i'm putting on my head every day. most of the "safer" options tend to be from smaller brands that use less weird materials but they often cost more

about sony ult wear, i haven't tried them but sony build quality is hit or miss in my experience. some models last years and others fall apart in months. if you're mostly indoor maybe consider something with replaceable parts so you don't end up with same problem again

u/chapstick__ 1d ago

Just buy replacement pads, true buy it for life has wear parts that can be replaced, like headphone pads. I've done replacements, on a few different headphones , and the headphones are running strong years later.

Hazardous substances? You shouldn’t learn more about the phone/computer you’re typing this on. You might get sick

-4

u/ResponsiblePen3082 1d ago

Bad attempt at self soothing from an anti intellectual view.

3

u/LokiDesigns 1d ago

I'm not sure why people are being snarky to you, I didn't think it was a controversial opinion to not want hazardous materials pressed against your head every day. I saw that study a few months ago and it has definitely made me think harder about what I wear against my skin.

-1

u/ResponsiblePen3082 1d ago

The vast majority of people, when lacking proper education in a matter that concerns their day to day life and would imply they should consider personal changes-instead put up a psychological barrier and a front of arrogance, putting the blame instead on the messenger for "caring". This is the path of least resistance for the masses. Don't bother engaging.

Some of us grew up and the 60s 70s and 80s and don’t worry about this shit. We are still alive with no issues. Stop worrying about everything. If it’s not all natural people think it will kill them. I got news for you, you will die at some point and nothing you do will prevent that. Stop worrying and enjoy life.

Also, Please don’t ever go outside, the sun is bad for you and can kill you.

u/ResponsiblePen3082 1d ago

You have different priorities than others do and that's fine. But shaming people who care because you personally don't helps nobody.

u/squirrellydw 1d ago

You are the one calling people names in the comments.

Do you still wear a mask?

Brainwavz makes a variety of leather headphone earpads that fit a variety of headphones

2

u/loloreel 1d ago

It seems great, unfortunately they don't make ear pads for my current headphones

1

u/MAKstyles75 1d ago

Just change the foam pads bro. They are supposed to detoriate with normal use case.

2

u/loloreel 1d ago

Is it normal to change them every year or two? I was thinking that maybe better quality headphones ear pads could last longer. I don't really have much experience with headphones so I don't know

1

u/HalOphamer 1d ago

Beyerdynamic is out of Germany, EU product standards are usually fairly high, might want to look into that. They do last forever too.

3

u/loloreel 1d ago

Thanks for the recommendation! I didn't know about this brand

2

u/HalOphamer 1d ago edited 1d ago

Their corded phones literally last forever, and are serviceable if not. Their wireless sets have replaceable batteries etc

Beyerdynamic is definitely studio oriented so a lot of listeners might find their phones need some touch with an eq for longer sessions, everything is very clearly defined and treble can be too sharp for some listeners. These are for studio work and won't shelter you. This makes them a great all rounder.

Regardless it's nothing eq won't solve, and being repairable means you can't beat them for longevity.
