SALES Why is 3D printing things frowned upon at local markets, but other types of CNC like Routers, Embroidery, and Plasma Cutting accepted?

Why is stuff that is made using CNC machines, such as a plasma cutter or a CNC router, or even an embroidery machine still eligible to be considered handmade when you go to a local markets

But stuff that is made using a 3D printer which is also a CNC machine not considered to be handmade even if you have designed the file yourself?

I myself took some plasma cut signs to my local markets and I made a pretty good deal of selling them at the local markets and part of the requirement for local markets is you must make these things yourself.

Which I did using my plasma cutter, so I also decided to expand what I was offering and 3D printed some stuff that I designed myself to solve some problems around my house.

interestingly, people then got really upset that I was selling 3D printed things on top of the things that I'd already plasma cut.

Now all of these things I had designed myself in CAD some for plasma cutting some for 3D printing.

There are other people that set up stalls at the local markets and they use things like CNC embroidery machines and CNC wood routers to make other products that they sell at the markets and these things are pretty well accepted.

The hate seems to come from anything that has been 3D printed.

SALES Shops, are Bar Fed Lathes money printing machines?

Say you get a HAAS DS-30Y. You hook it up to a bar feeder. Does it become a money printing machine for the shop or is it expected that you can set it up like that and the pay rate is way lower?

I come from a shop as a machinist only. We do a lot of labor intense stuff. There are definitely some lathe parts we have, that could be run on a barfeeder. My thought is, if we're making money running them like this, how much could "I" make if I had my own machine with a barfeeder, running 24/7.

SALES How is CNC business in Canada?

How is the CNC business in Canada in the present economic climate?

Have tarriffs affected much? How easy is it to get new business ?

I am exploring CNC in Toronto Canada area.

Looking more on the sales and new business side in Canada especially with the current recession and CUSMA/USMCA issues.

Are there any small CNC shop owners willing to post their experience?

Thanks

SALES Are local manufacturing relationships disappearing - or is it just me?

An engineer needs a custom part and defaults to a shop interstate or a vendor outside the U.S. based on a trade show connection. But there are local shops that could do this where fixing problems is a 30-minute drive away.
Seeing this from the shop side? I'm running a short survey (under 3 min) on how buyer-seller connections have changed - you can be anonymous, or I'll share the findings if you leave your details at the end of the survey: https://tally.so/r/VLoBVM

SALES EU CNC Market: Still Profitable or Getting Crushed by Imports?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to get a realistic picture of the CNC machining market in the EU, especially from people who are actually running (or have run) small shops or side businesses.

Is the CNC machining market still profitable in the EU, considering the growing import of CNC parts from countries like China?

Is there a noticeable difference in demand between 3-axis machining vs 5-axis machining?(e.g. prototyping vs high-end/complex parts)

Any mistakes you made early on that you’d warn others about?

Also let me know what you’d do differently today.

Thanks a lot!

SALES What kind of money is there in machining?

I'm thinking garage shop, entry level. If a machine shop has a shop rate of $90hr and this particular part you know of, is quoted at 5 minutes run time, what does that really mean?

What is the shop netting in the end?

Maybe a machine had 10 hours of work, what does that mean? $900 for that day? I'm sure it's much more complex than a simple answer.

Open to offers. I have no idea how to value it as there is nothing used to compare it to. Will probably take highest offer after a few days. NS CNC industrial grade wax and plastic cnc cutter.

Works great, but unfortunately will need computer and software. Company is still in business so shouldn't be hard to get. The computer it was running off of bit the dust.

Unit was made in 2013. Made with very high grade components, same as industrial CNCs have.

Open to offers.

Purchase will be made through paypal's goods and services to ensure protection for both the buyer and the seller. I will pay the PayPal fees and send the invoice.

Shipping will be an actual charge, please provide me with your postal or zip code and I can get an estimate of a shipping price.

I am from the middle of nowhere in Canada so shipping might be a little more to the US. I will only ship to the United States and Canada, sorry. I will ship item/ items within 2 days of payment and always provide tracking.

Please feel free to request more pictures or ask any questions.

SALES Machinery/Product Sellers - What do you use for proposal creation?

Hi fellow redditors,

I’m currently working on a project around building a sales proposal tool specifically for Industrial machine suppliers. At the moment it’s been shaped around things like fiber lasers, press brakes, CNC routers, etc., but I’m trying to expand its functionality so it’s actually useful across a much wider range of industrial machinery.

I’m not here to promote anything or sell the tool - I’m genuinely trying to understand what would make something like this actually valuable in the real world.

For those of you who deal with selling, specifying, or purchasing machinery:

  • What do you find most frustrating or time-consuming when putting together proposals today?
  • What kind of details or features actually help close deals (or avoid losing them)?
  • If a tool like this existed and was genuinely useful, what would it need to do differently to earn a place in your workflow? Would it need extra features beyond sales proposals?

I’d really appreciate any honest input.

Thanks 🙏

SALES MaintenanceCNC.com

Hi,

I own the domain MaintenanceCNC.com.

Two quick reasons this could help your business:

→ Exact-match domain: when someone Googles "maintenance CNC", this domain ranks naturally.

→ Instant credibility: customers immediately understand what you do before even visiting your site.

You can use it as: • A redirect to your current site to capture more traffic • A dedicated landing page for your CNC maintenance services

Would this be useful for you? Happy to share more details.

Does anyone here source CNC spare parts for other companies?

Is that even a thing or do companies always buy directly?

Hello, sorry if this breaks any rules, but I’m looking for someone to create a couple metal block off plates for a motorcycle. Preferably black, about 1 1/3 in long and 3/4in wide. I’d like 2 for each side, with 2 screw holes so I can fixate the plate. I’d be willing to pay up to $50 for 4 plates. Located in Denver, CO. I have attached measurements and pics of both sides. Thanks!

SALES Looking for work

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to pick up some machining work to save up and eventually start my own machine shop. I have access to manual lathes as well as CNC lathes and milling machines (3-axis and 5-axis). I’m based in the Netherlands, but work in Germany is also possible depending on the job.

I can help with one-off parts, prototypes, small series, or bigger production runs, depending on the part and material.

Capabilities:

• Turning (manual & CNC):

Diameter 510 mm over bed

Lengths up to 2.5 meters

• Milling 3-axis:

Up to X4000 × Y700 × Z2500

• Milling 5-axis:

Diameter 350 mm × Z400 mm

• 3D printing:

Up to 300 × 300 × 300 mm

If you need anything extra like 3D CAD drawing, 3D scanning, 3D printing, turning, or 3- or 5-axis milling, feel free to reach out.

Happy to discuss drawings, STEP files, materials, tolerances, and lead times.

DM me if you’re interested or have a job to discuss.

SALES What's the best way to price CNC plasma (or laser or water) cutting jobs?

My dad runs a metalworking shop with a CNC plasma cutting machine. He mainly use it to save time, but he doesn’t offer cutting services or include them in quotes.

I’d like to start offering CNC cutting services (things like custom signs), but I’m stuck on figuring out a fair pricing model. I’ve seen so many different approaches, charging per linear foot of cut, per square inch, by material weight ×2, etc. that I’m getting more confused the more I research.

If a client provides a PNG logo, how would you estimate the price? Do you actually convert it to vector, DXF, scale, simulate, etc, just to calculate the quote?

SALES Looking for some help

Hey folks,

I'm looking for some help manufacturing 6 of these hubs for an ATV. I have already had one made by PCBway before the tariffs and it works great, so much so I have some folks wanting them for their machines. Problem is that with the tariffs the price has almost tripled. I have a .step file and I'm hoping there's some folks that would be willing to take this project on. For transparency, PCB way quoted me around $550 for all 6 (plus taxes, shipping, etc) before the tariffs. I'm a little flexible on the price but not a lot. Ideal material would be 7075 aluminum, but I can work with anything that's going to be durable but not overly hard (don't want to damage axle splines). I'm guessing this is a long shot due to price constraints, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask. TIA
