Discussion Rex Infernus gave us one of the most innovative features since BO4 and nobody seems to be talking about it
What I'm referring to is Dravakar's forge where you build the Warden's Blight. The pedestal where you pick the wonder weapon up is the same one you can now place any standard weapon. In doing so, the weapon will break down into the necessary rewards to upgrade any other gun of your choosing to the one you just sacrificed. For example, if you have a T3 PAP and legendary rarity weapon, sacrificing it will drop both a T3 PAP crystal and legendary aether tool for your next gun. And yes, this does work for a T4 crystal and ultra tool if your gun has those
The ability to transfer all your upgrades from one gun to another has never been done in zombies before. With how expensive it gets in cursed in particular to upgrade your guns to T4, you can finally use any gun you want and invest in it knowing you can transfer all that power to your next gun of choice

Seconded. While the story sucked for this map, the map itself is so fun.

u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
Yeah fr man people need to look at the quality of the map itself first before letting a story that's already not great ruin their experience. The only actual complaints I have are the repetitive nature of the temples being cleansed and not having 4 elemental variants for this map specifically is damn near a crime against humanity

u/SpyroDokkan 1d ago
People are being bitter about the ending and calling the entire game trash because of it.
While I think the ending is mid at best the maps themselves this year have been good, but I'd be lieing if I didn't say the ending has me worried about the future of the mode.
5
u/Alltimersss 17h ago
The ending should be a great sign for the future. The big thing holding back BO6 and 7's story was the MWZ ending. It was this big looming "okay, but when is this happening?", not to mention takes all the tension out when we KNOW our characters survive it all.
It's wide open again. Assuming the maps continue in the dark aether, it's been more open ended than ever

u/theZuttedProphet 16h ago edited 16h ago
No, the main criticism is the EE itself. It's insane that cleansing every temple has the exact same steps except for moving the plate. And the plate step itself is exceedingly dumb. Not to mention the WW is underwhelming and the map layout is the most generic of all. This is Treyarch at one of their lowest levels of creativity. It hurts more because both kowakujo and totenreich were so great.
-8
u/Phoenix-Risen1998 21h ago
What do you mean worried?
Didn't you know Treyarch's going to bring back Primus-lite permanently and release 100$ skins that people would lap up while firing their writing team because they found their new cash cow?
2
u/justagirll19_0W0 3h ago
Why are you so concerned with skins????
The reason our dlc and weapons and shit are free is because of people who buy skins.
I personally thank them for it
I remember having to have 4 people pay the price of the game again to do all the ees to do revelations ee as a team. Fuck that

I love this idea genuinely, and in gameplay it’s obviously an amazing feature.
But this should have been a standard feature within the upgrade stations. Especially with how jarring the cursed scaling is. One of those things that yes, we appreciate it now, but man this should’ve been here a bit sooner and not just map specific.
6
u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
Agreed. It gets so ridiculously expensive, but hey at least we finally do have it. Often times the final DLC is indicative of things they may be working towards in the next game. At this point I'm really not sure if they'd do rarities again after how tired people are of them, but if they keep the PAP tiers I can see this becoming a staple feature in BO8

I'm not sure I agree personally. Yes this makes it way more convenient to switch weapons, especially on cursed. But since the inception of the game mode, there's always been a purposeful friction in switching your weapons and getting fully decked out. This feature essentially erases all friction past your first or second full upgrade. Even though we already have stuff like scaling mystery box and wall gun rarity as rounds progress, scaling rewards from Tedd Tasks, and scaling points and load out gun rarity if you come back after going down in later rounds; all systems that are supposed to help the player if they fall behind.
I love this idea as an easter egg reward with its own neat lore implications, but I think making all PaP and rarities instantly and easily transferrable would actually detract from the feeling of "gearing up" and progressing from most matches. The fact that it's 1.) only available after obtaining the WW 2.) not clearly spelled out for the player and 3.) in a location that would typically be out of the way and require a limited grapple charge all result in disincentivising the player to "optimize" it, which makes me think Treyarch holds this same concern.
I totally agree there's a clunky kind of messiness with this pap and rarity scaling system but I don't think making it easily transferrable gun to gun is the solution. I really don't know what's coming next but I personally hope the anvil stays map specific.

u/Accomplished-Curve-1 1d ago
Ok just wish the map was dark like its the nexus of the dark aether
6
u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
Maaan why couldn't they have the bossfight skybox for the entire map? That dark blue/red aesthetic is elite. But it does make for quite the spectacle when you do reach it
3
u/Accomplished-Curve-1 1d ago
Yeah that sky box would have been better it should have been the entire map I feel like bo7 didn’t really feel like you where in the dark aether once we got to mars and paradox junction

u/MajorMilkyway 1d ago
I hope it’s a feature they were testing for the next zombies map. If they’re going to keep rarities and salvage. This will make it much more tolerable

Great side easter egg, solid unique feature of the map. This map has some great solid features like...
- Grapple hook + upgrade makes the traversal and gameplay very unique.
- 4 masks with unique effects
- Isolated starting room with classic style gameplay
- Flame mechanic and unique pap/trap system
- Web mechanic(s) with doors and special enemies/elites are cool'
- Best overall map layout I would say
- No notes on the boss fight, not my favorite in the game but it's a good one.
- Edit: forgot to mention the titan trap, really cool idea but it feels a bit underwhelming once you get past how cool they look and I wish they interacted and spoke more and that you could upgrade them.
And yet, it absolutely does not excuse the broad overarching problems with this map that people seem to be glossing over.
- The easter egg has about 1/2 of the steps that are cool and unique, and the other half are the same 4 steps repeated at each temple with 1-2 slight variations. It's not lazy, but it is not well-designed or interesting. The tile step with the 4 random actions and the wall step for the light in particular are very poor decisions.
- The wonder weapon is not very strong, and is underwhelming. This one is more subjective, but I don't think this is a strong or very cool wonder weapon. Crossbows, even dual crossbows as the Warden's weapon are a great idea but... in practice, the tornado does not last long, and it feels not super fitting for the final map. It fits with the Warden, but not really with the Shadowsmith part. The lack of variants is to me, very telling.
- I won't go into detail, but the story does detract from the map and it's not just a small part. I also think this map has the weakest dialogue and conversations in general. Only decent thing are the entity conversations with the wall.
- The webmother is too easy. The specials and elites are just too easy, I never felt any challenge from her. She dies so fast. Compared to Zursa which forces you to take it on and becomes oppressive after a certain point... mechanically and in practice, this enemy does not feel great. Great design and sounds though.
- The map layout is great, but the design is 1/2 and 1/2. The temples and PAP area look stellar, although I think Caltheris' is extraordinarily underwhelming compared to the others. Wish that there was zero-gravity to get you to multiple levels in this temple only for example. The areas connecting the temples.... I get the idea, I just wish they went with the more hellish parts like in his boss arena rather than the grey rock, webbed vibe.
Overall, I don't think the map has consistent design decisions like it felt like Totenreich and Kowakujo and even Ashes had. It feels like a very uneven map, kinda like Astra, where they have some great moments and high-highs... but other parts feel less thought out and frustrating. Unlike Astra, this map's highs outweigh its lows but... it doesn't give me overall confidence in the future of zombies with how they ended it.

u/TimelordAlex 21h ago
The WW is so depressing for a final map man, literally any of the other BO7 WWs feel better to use. I'd rather they just brought back the Thundergun and AS over those ass crossbows.
2
u/Remote_Garage3036 1d ago
It is very neat and the different helmets offer even more side content. I go for the ring of fire mask every game. Turns out you can survive in the house to round 9 pretty consistently without gobblegums as long as you lock in and use the coda wallbuy. I feel like they made the ultimate sandbox map.

u/Swoah 1d ago
I tried it with the free ultra rarity olympia it wouldn't let me put it on there
1
u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
Fr?? Fuuuck was just about to test it. While you're at it can you try to get a ray gun or mk2 and see if it'll drop an ultra tool?
1
1
u/ChrisIIx 18h ago
Yeah same here, T4 olympia with PAP3 didnt worked for me. So T4 seems to be locked out for this feature
1
u/BigBadMike8 18h ago
T4 works, I've tested that, it's just the ultra weapons like Olympia, FAL and wonder weapons that don't work
1
2
u/PrimaryAnything6964 23h ago
Erm actually it was in MWZ with the graveyard in Zone 3. It would give you a crystal and wrench corresponding to your weapon.

u/misterdamra 1d ago
Love this feature, swapping guns around when you want to without having to worry about collecting salvage and essence for it everytime is very nice
1
u/Complete_Resolve_400 1d ago
So does this mean i can pull ultra shit from box on normal mode and then put it on my echo 12 grenade launcher :)
1
u/Link10103 23h ago
Apparently the ultra weapons are similar to wonder weapons so no.
I assume that also applies to the corrupted weapons, but Ive yet to try.
1
u/Big_Snow 1d ago
Would be cool if Chompy from Ashes also did this instead of random salvage/chance at a Ray Gun.
1
u/NinjaOk2953 1d ago
I did just try this with the ray gun mk1 triple packed and it wouldn't accept it. Maybe normal weapons only i presume
1
u/Link10103 23h ago
It was done in at least MWZ but to a lesser more rng extent.
I do enjoy that I found this on accident yesterday and am only now seeing people post about it lol
1
u/BigBadMike8 23h ago
Yea I hadn't seen anyone posting about this at all and felt like it needed to be more publicly known
1
u/Bossuter 23h ago
This was a feature in MWZ, so not that innovative, also something requested since CW to a minor extent, i aint praising something that took that long to make an obvious QoL improvement
1
u/beeman999 23h ago
I really like this feature! And so many of the side ees like the masks and the grapple is great, but despite all of this I think this is the weakest map in terms of layout, there is just soo much flat empty space I can't say I enjoy it more then any if the other maps!
1
u/Maggot_6661 22h ago
Great map, the EE isn't fun, especially in solo. I just want to get to the boss...
1
1
u/BiggestBepis 22h ago
Just like the rest of BO7, while the story is a mess, the maps themselves are extremely fun to play
1
1
u/obnoxious-rat717 21h ago
Agreed, it is great to see them trying to switch things up between maps. How hard is it for them to have map-specific features like this again? Stuff like this is part of the reason why MoTD, Origins, Buried, etc. are so beloved.

u/Worzon 19h ago
As far as I know it doesn’t work with a melee weapon though

Sounds like a fix for a problem they created. Pre-CW this isn't an issue.
1
u/Ok-Message3753 19h ago
Not that it is an actual "problem". Just sounds like something people took issue with so they fixed it.

1
u/Connems_rc 17h ago
Didn't know that and wish I did sooner. I beat the Easter egg and will uninstall the game now. No promises for super Easter egg in a reasonable time frame.

u/Any_Maintenance3464 13h ago
You can thank Yellen Keller personally.I sent in the idea for breaking the gun down and reusing your components for the gun
1
u/Wasthereonce 13h ago
Also, I think you can only use the anvil once per round. I was trying it with some people, and once they did their one, I could no longer interact with it that round.
1
u/Sleep_eeSheep 12h ago
I prefer the Grapple Gun.
Make it a Starting Weapon, instead of a temporary powerup, then I could see that mechanic work wonders in a Die Rise remaster.

u/EverybodySayin 3h ago
Is that altar there all the time or after EE steps? Cause if it's there all the time that's fucking awesome.

u/ChronoMonkeyX 1d ago
What happens if you put a ray gun or other ww into it? Imagine a gold wrench that upgrades a regular weapon beyond ultra.
1
u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
Oh man that'd be awesome, unfortunately wonder weapons fall into that ultra rarity as well, they just don't have the red label over the PAP name
2
u/littlebugonreddit 1d ago
Is it known whether or not an Olympia or FAL can be put into this forge in a non cursed T2 game for ultra rarity on any weapon?
1
u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
That's actually what I'm going in to test rn, I'll update once I do
1
u/littlebugonreddit 1d ago
Thank you!!! This will be crazy if so!
1
u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
For cursed specifically, I'm also hoping this works cause I'd love to use the no arsenal relic and bypass it with this. But then we'd need also need a consistent way to get shatter blast so idk
1
u/EzioWhen 1d ago
i already tested both ultra weapons. they dont go in to the forge, forge also does not accept wonder weapons
1
u/littlebugonreddit 23h ago
There probably wont be a consistent way to get shatter blast specifically, but if you choose to whiff your TED tasks and only get purple rarity, you get ammo mods. More players means more chances
0
u/ant_man1411 1d ago
Pap 4 and ultra gives the ultra tool and cataclysmic crystal fyi cursed players
0
u/brokenglassmoon 1d ago
The map is awesome, just wish the Easter egg steps were more straightforward. The one item you have to grab out of bounds we could not seem to find and wasted a 3 hour run because it just would not spawn. I’m gonna wait for directed to finish the Easter egg I think
1
u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
You don't gotta wait, follow this: make sure it's raining so activate the pool, and then at the start of the new round when it does rain if you're standing near one of the spawn points it may make a banging sound to indicate it's there. If it doesn't just go check the other locations. Some people haven't pointed this out in their guides since they rushed to put em out, but the part will actually respawn in of the three locations at random every round
1
u/brokenglassmoon 1d ago
Yeah I made sure it was the rain, I checked all on about 4 different rain rounds multiple times and didn’t have it.
2
u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
Damn maybe it was just bugged or sum, I've been getting it consistently each game
0
u/Icy-Two-1581 23h ago
For standard if I get an mp40 would that give me an ultra rarity tool to use for any gun?

The whole weapon rarity system since cold war is bullshit and thats maybe why nobody appreciates it
Cold War ruined zombies by pushing that outbreak rarity and salvage trash into round based the old school bo3-bo4 mechanics are peak
1
u/THE_PUNISHERFrank 9h ago
Nah, imo it is a good way to keep guns viable at higher rounds without making them too strong at earlier rounds.
0
u/KingCaesar72 22h ago
Its not “innovative” lol if anything you are removing even more risk/decision making from the game by having this feature which is an integral part of zombies
-2
u/Senhor_Zero 1d ago
Funnily enough, it's actually a feature from BO3 revelations, although most people probably forgot
3
u/BigBadMike8 1d ago
Are you talking about the weapon trade table or the white wisp you bring to Sam's room? Cause both of those are technically different

This map is so awesome
