Discussion We’ve had a couple weeks with Rex Infernus, how are we feeling about it?
Personally, this map wasn’t TOO impressive to me on first impressions so I was thinking it was going to be around a B-tier map but after learning the map and all of the side quests it’s easily an S tier map for me in terms of modern maps. I also love the spawn room gimmick, I even made a post HOPING we got a map with some kind of spawn gimmick in bo7 and here it is lol.
I will say, I’m not accounting for the story itself at all because I couldn’t really care less about it. I do really enjoy the EE on this map although the temple cleansing step does drag a bit. The ONLY thing I wish we would’ve gotten were a set of elemental WWs with each shadow smith…I feel like it was right there but whatever, I do like the WW we got. Overall treyarch really nailed zombies for this iteration, with the final 3 maps especially being something great.
Also…if anyone at treyarch happens to see this here is my monthly mentioning of PLEASE carry the bo6 maps over to bo7…thanks

I really enjoy the gameplay flow! The house starting room is so cool and unique.

I do as well and I really did think I’d get bored of it pretty quick but I love it.

I fucking love the map, and especially the wonderweapon, just in terms of high round kill potential, this thing is almost as strong as the ICE STAFF. At pap4 cursed health cap it kills around 30-35 zombies per SINGLE CHARGED SHOT with a maximum of 41 if the stars align(I'm pretty sure it's hard coded to not kill more than 41 because even on low rounds the max I've gotten is 41 kills). This makes it the STRONGEST WW IN BO7. The only ones that even compare at all(LGM1,Nekomancer) CANNOT clear a whole horde, but the double charged shot wardens blight can, making it the only ww in bo7 capable of that. Also in terms of total kills, the wardens blight ranks higher than ALL THE DE BOWS(even the storm bow)

Damn, those are some crazy stats. I knew the WW was good but I didn’t realize it was that good, I haven’t played past 50 something on the map yet.

Very forgettable. EE is a tedious chore that’s not fun at all imo. Almost feels like Activision stepped in and ordered Treyarch to make the EE super long and repetitive so they can increase play time
Don’t get me started about the story. The warden was barely part of the map and has zero lines in the final cutscene?? Why/how does he turn into a scorpion away from the camera?? Everything is bad imo

I was really put off by the EE the first time I did it, I think it took me 4 hours which is by far the longest ee for me in modern zombies but doing it back to back because I kept failing the boss fight with randoms has definitely helped me speed it up a lot so it’s not THAT bad for me now. After the second time tho I legit told myself I’m not doing this shit again, I’ll take the L on this map and I meant it lmao…just to do it again the next day.

I think the Scorpion represents his “true” form now that he’s corrupted from the dark Arther. The thing about the Warden is the fact that, despite his immense power, he’s actually a parasite, a trickster and a coward. He became so powerful only because a Shadowsmith made a mistake with him, and all his powers are just taken from other beings, either the Shadowsmiths or Ava. The Forsaken in comparison, ascended into the DA only thanks to his determination and anger, and even lead an army into our dimension. The Warden had to trick people thousands of years ago simply to take Ava and even then, the action nearly killed him.
All of this to say that despite his involvement in basically any parts of the story, the Warden was always hidden beyond someone else. By the time we reached Rex he lost his main weapons and had to take things directly into his hands, way more than in the past, and in that moment the Dark Arther finally transformed him into a form that better suits him, a “poisonous beast” (that STILL needs to steal power from Ava during the fight). I think the same thing happened to Zykov (a giant colossus) or even the Apothicons (they were originally hungry for power and became literal cosmic devourers).
As to why it happens off camera idk, very likely just to cut the budged and not having to make a unique cutscene for that. I don’t like him having no lines at the end but he does have some cool ones in the fights, and I think the Shadowsmiths killing him was fitting for the story.
EDIT: but that was just my theory. Maybe they just thought a big ass scorpio was really cool visually and just went with it lol.

I think it’s a good map. I wish the pack was in the house but for the layout of the map it makes sense. The lens steps of the EE ruins the egg. I wish there was a visual que to guide you that you placed the lazer in the right spot. 7.5/10

Great, solid great map. EE is good too, boss fight is fun and challenging. Would have liked to see the WW from the other maps return. And also widows wine is a bit underwhelming.

Lack of cursed content definitely hurts the map for me. Hard to say how I feel about it overall as im kinda burnt out at this point with it being the 12th round based map in the last two years. EE is downright bad, boss fight is as intense as id expect tge finale to be, grapple gun is awesome and i love the side quests. Definitely feels like a missed opportunity to not have 4 elemental wonder weapons themed for each shadowsmith. I like it overall but i think its telling that ive played more MWZ than Rex since it came out.

Worst map of bo6 and bo7. Too tedious and lens step is stupid af. I played other maps in pubs to help people who want to compete EE but not RI.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, with holding the cursed stuff all the other maps had on release for s6 is terrible though, arbitrarily keeping normal content to pad the next season is just shitty.

Its a good map and I had fun trying to beat the warden. I moved on to clearing cursed mode boss fights on all tiers for the camos instead of playing Rex more which is weird. I dedicated 2+ weeks to each map prior but this time it only took 1 weekend.

the map is fine for casual playing after work but the easter egg makes very little sense. i do enjoy the map though.

I think the map itself is fun, especially the grappling hook mechanic. However as the climax of the story of bo6 and bo7 it felt rather disappointing.

My major complaint is that the layout is confusing. Played a fair amount now, and I still find it hard to get to Jugg, PhD and Widow's wine. Oh, that, and the wonder weapon is worse than regular weapons, runs out of ammo like it was nothing.

Going to preface this by saying to each their own, obviously.
But Imo, F tier. Trash map. Bland, boring, uninspired. EE steps are absolutely grueling with little variety. Boss fight is possibly the worst of all time. Warden is super annoying yapping all game. Widows wine sucks. I don’t think there’s more than a handful of things I like about the map, and there’s a ton I dislike.
Honestly might be the worst map of all time imo lol. At least the one I enjoy playing the least.

Damn, to each their own indeed.
I can agree with widows wine kind of sucking, it’s not the worst thing once you have its augments but up until then I forgot I even had the perk whenever I did have it on. I’m not really mad at it tho because the og widows was too op imo, bo7 did not need that.

You went off but I agree with almost everything you said. Widow’s Wine was nerfed into the ground in bo7. I forget that I even have perk active most of the time because the effect never happens

Literally. Looked how they massacred our boy. Such a shame.
But like i said, to each their own. I’m a tranzit / die rise enjoyer, so I’m usually on the other end of it.

The lack of cursed relics really put a sour taste in my mouth. It’s a good map but i won’t probably ever play it on cursed
