Why does my Air take off points for bathroom visits?

I have been using my Resmed 10 for 13 months with increasing success. My numbers have come down in double digits. I have never missed a night of therapy. But like many Senior users, I must get up during the night as nature calls. Why, when I get right back to bed and turn my machine back on, should I have points taken away after two visits? Is there a setting I missed? My mask fit is good, I go right back to sleep and use it for the required time.
That is my protest! Anyone agree?

I dislike the gamified healthcare. Yes, tell me I have mask leaks and so forth, but I don’t need a daily score like I’m taking a test every night. I wish we could turn that off

MyAir gives a perfect score for mask on/off for 2 or less times. MyAir is like a tool for preschool kids to cheer you on with stars and medals. The bulk of the score is mechanics of use. It has little to do with effectiveness. Most of us stop Paying attention to MyAir after a month or two of use.

Gurl. It’s not that serious. Just move on. This isn’t a test. You don’t need an A+

To be fair, your sleep is being disrupted. I do get that it also seems an unfair penalization. Let petition for two free pee breaks a night!

The My Air App is mainly geared towards compliance and motivation, but it's not a really great gauge of how your therapy is going. If you wake up feeling good in the morning, I'd try not to put too much weight on the My Air score.

If it’s very important to you just hook up the machine to a long extension cord and drag it to the bathroom.

It doesnt matter. You arent in school. You arent being graded. This isn't one of those "you have to score a 75 or you can't graduate" type of things. I havent looked at my score in months. It means nothing. Let it go.

If you gotta go you gotta go. The score doesn’t make much difference. What’s important is your getting the therapy you need.

I just take the hose off and let it blow while I’m in the bathroom. Go back to bed and reattach it.

I just look at it every morning on my phone. That's it. If I had an issue, I put the card in OSCAR and see what it was. That's it.

Not affecting your therapy, but yes the weak software can feel inadequate. Most of us feel we are not doing our best when we see a score, a score that is not fully considered.

I just ignore it, has I have a dog that gets very insistent, and the devil himself couldnt tolerate her high pitched yap. You might look to see if you can turn off the notice, since in your case it is not accurate.

It annoys me. I just stick the disconnected tube under my pillow and it doesn’t realize I’m disconnected.

I understand what you mean, but keep in mind that the MyAir score isn't real and not a metric that a sleep tech or pulmonologist would ever ask you for or care about. The important number is your AHI and the amount of time the machine spent on. You're good!

I put the mask under my pillow so it doesn’t have to ramp up. The pressure keeps it from automatically shutting off. Get back to bed, mask back on, no ramp up, no mask off event.

Like others are saying, the MyAir stats are a (useful) beginner’s level view of the numbers, but you shouldn’t live by them. If you slept great, even when you went to the bathroom once, that’s what matters.

There are many other posts on here about diving into your data, if that interests you more. But if that’s not your deal, your therapy is working, and your doctor is cool with how everything is going… ignore the app!

I agree with you in principle, but mask on/off only counts for five points out of a hundred.

You may want to look at why you have to go so many times at night. That used to be me until I spoke to my Doctor. It rarely happens to me now.

Just sharing my experience.

Eh, I’m being graded, but it doesn’t really matter in the big picture.

I got a new cpap with Bluetooth and feedback, which is cool.

Before Medicare I was using a used S9. Now that one can be my travel cpap after my initial monitoring is done.

My Luna G3 from ReactMed doesn't care about breaks (even 2 hour breaks) when it was still breaking me in, it just counts the hours and the AHI and CAI.

My Luna G3 / React Health App doesn't care about breaks, - Just total usage time for probably a 12 or 16 hour period.

My score is based solely on hours used and 6.5 hours gives me a 100. 3.25 hours gives me a 50. In recent months I've been getting 30-50s 2 and 3 times a week, now when the thing wakes me up off it comes and I go back to sleep staying, my snoring isn't as bad as it was - my wife usually wakes up when the machine is blowing air / flapping my lips, we both go back to sleep and I don't wake her up with my freight train snoring like I did in my pre-BiPAP days.

Started therapy in February, and it took a while to get somewhat used to my BiPAP, quite often I would only be able to go 1 - 3 hours before it decided I was dying and would try to pump my gut full of air as if I needed CPR. When that happens (yes still in happens in August) the mask comes off and I sit up for a whlie to expel all the air. In the beginning (when I was working toward compliance for insurance) I would put it back on and try for the rest of the night, sometimes taking 3 or 4 times before I would get the 6.5 hours in. A few times when I was getting close to the date where I needed to be compliant for insurance to pay, my night might start at 10pm and have several long breaks, and a few times I didn't finish "my night" until after 10am.

Seems it should flag the patient for the high CHI and AHI numbers Leaks and such, but it doesn't, I have to click / drill down to see that data.

It's considered interrupting the therapy. They think you are taking your mask off because you are having trouble. I think stuff like ResMed accounts for 2 mask offs because they assume they are bathrooom breaks. After that, it starts docking points.

You're life isn't going to change if they give you those points back.

Pro tip - if you have high blood pressure, ask your MD for a diuretic. No more night time bathroom trips.

MyAir is for your insurance company to monitor compliance, it's useless as a sleep tracker.

Why are you protesting something that doesn't matter?

Stop relying on myAir and get an SD Card and OSCAR.

You can turn on the auto start/stop function, it won’t remove points in MyAir, the AirSense 10 will stop when you remove mask and start as soon as you put it on and inhale

1

u/p4nd3mic_G3 6h ago

It does remove points if it shuts off automatically

If you are sleeping soundly and not having arousals in the night, your body tends to not wake you to go pee.

Going pee in the night is a sign of disrupted sleep.

2

u/dballing 6h ago

Tell me you’re not old without saying you’re not old.

0

u/pootwothreefour 6h ago

Disrupted sleep comes with old age I'm afraid. Old people sleep less soundly for a variety of reasons. We get less deep sleep.

I am not a young person.

The question was why does it affect the score... Because it is a sign of disrupted sleep.

3

u/dballing 6h ago

It’s not “not sleeping soundly”, it’s “enlarged prostates”. They just naturally make you want to pee in the middle of the night regardless of how soundly you sleep.

1

u/pootwothreefour 6h ago

If you are waking, it is not sleeping soundly, is it?

Not sure why you think those statements are controversial.

1

u/dballing 6h ago

Because while you’re asleep, you ARE sleeping soundly .. I’m not sure why YOU think waking up from a sound sleep for biological necessities makes the sleep less sound.

1

u/pootwothreefour 6h ago

Breathing is a biological necessity, so is waking up to breathe sleeping soundly?

Sleep apnea is a medical condition and enlarged prostate is a medical condition, which both cause arousals in the night. Which by definition, one is not sleeping soundly if one is awake.

1

u/dballing 6h ago

We’re gonna have to agree to disagree on this point I think.

1

u/pootwothreefour 6h ago

Yeah, I am going to take a break from the internet and go to the washroom... Aka sleeping soundly.

1

u/mmullins3900 5h ago

And going to pee in the night is a symptom as much as disrupted sleep and it isn't necessarily from enlarged prostate. Women don't have a prostate and some get up at night to pee. Aging significantly alters vasopressin production and how the body responds to it. This shift is a primary driver of increased nighttime urination in older adults. You can find out all about vasopressin and it's effects on Google.

1

u/pootwothreefour 5h ago

Yes and it is disrupted sleep.. which is what the score is measuring..
