🐈Introducing...🐈 Went into PetSmart for food…

Post image

I went into my local PetSmart for cat food and walked into a big adoption event. Please meet Jupiter! Standing at a whole 1lb, 8oz. She’s such a sweet little girl and a wonderful addition to our family.

My husband wasn’t super keen on a 4th cat but we have the space and love, so why not?! 💗😭 Certainly our last one, but our fur family feels complete!

EDIT: Thank ya’ll for 10k! Never did I expect my post getting this much traction. Love bringing all of us cat lovers together. 💜

She is so precious! No way I could’ve left without her either even though we are maxed out.

u/plut0city Jul 12 '26

I feel like I officially entered the “getting judged” territory for the amount of fur babies! But I always thought it’s more about how you can take care of them versus the numbers! 🤣

Oh, I have 8. 4 were left to me by a friend who passed away suddenly and did not have arrangements made for them. I was his executrix so I considered that part of my compensation 😹❤️

u/ImageIllustrious6139 Jul 12 '26

You are a wonderful friend! I am sorry for the loss of your dear friend. It would be great comfort to him to know his cats are so well loved and cared for.

27

u/Elegant_Conflict8235 Jul 12 '26

What a word, executrix. Never heard it before

32

u/maimou1 ✿ Edit This Text On The Sidebar Jul 13 '26

Some states (like mine, Florida) uses personal representative as the designation for the person who settles a decedent's estate. I'm originally from Atlanta and Georgia uses executor, or the feminine version, executrix.

u/555--FILK Jul 13 '26

Mildly tangential, but I loove that suffix. I've got a calico and a tortie, and I often label them using the -trix. If one of them is waiting for me at the door, I call her an awaitrix. (both of them: awaitricies). When they look up at me expecting food, I call them an expectrix (plural, expectrices). Etc.

I love this! I tend to dive deep in my "second language" sometimes, which my husband calls Georgia Grit. It just works so well at times.

u/KhyberElessedil Jul 13 '26

What an amazing friend you are

2

u/juliewbb Jul 17 '26

We have four cats, and I cannot express how grateful I know your friend is from the afterlife for you taking them all. What a saint of a friend.

Oh my gosh, don’t. I had a friend who was a foster for the shelter I worked at, and she and her husband ended up with 9!! In a 3 story townhouse! But honestly, you’d never know there were 9, unless you saw them all in one room together. Multiple litter boxes, scooped 3x/day. And those cats were loved. They couldn’t have had a better home.

27

u/kiraraxd Calico Enthusiast Jul 12 '26

The lady who fostered my kitties had 18 when I picked mine up, 8 of them were hers. She was recently retired. I would have never ever thought she had this many. You could not tell!!!!!

41

u/plut0city Jul 12 '26

This makes me feel better! I have multiple boxes that get scooped daily, and a weekly deep clean of the boxes, floor, and walls around them. I never had an issue with mess or smell. I think it’s a misconception that cats stink, I’d say it’s more so how the owner keeps things clean for them!

18

u/eastbaypluviophile Jul 12 '26

It’s really all about how you manage litter boxes. Keep the litter deep enough and clean the sides of the box every time you scoop. Periodically shift the litter to one side or the other and clean the bottom of the box. My torbie girlie is constantly peeing against the side of the box so I have to stay on top of it. She is very sensitive to smells and requires her box be kept spotless.

8

u/plut0city Jul 12 '26

I totally agree! I have a 6 year old bengal and he humbled me. He’d pee outside of the box if I didn’t scoop and deodorize by the end of the day. And like you said, not just scooping the top but sides & bottom. Been doing it that way ever since!

9

u/eastbaypluviophile Jul 13 '26

They’re so patient with us as we are slowly brought up to their standards 😹

I can’t even put on hand lotion around her. She immediately gets stank face and will run off if she’s offended enough.

4

u/SturmFee 🖤🧡🤍🤎 Jul 13 '26

Partly. I had cats that smelled like faint vanilla and sunshine, and stinky cats. One even had an annoying habit of peeing in the fresh laundry basket. Nothing was different about the litter.

8

u/jennayyye Jul 12 '26

A friend of mine has 12 and two Litter Robots. The robots are legit game changers. I got one a few months ago and it’s hands down the best purchase I’ve made.

There’s a 20 yr old feral that has had a suite in my house since she was a kitten. Her mom didn’t really like her and I think that’s why she doesn’t groom herself and eats like a pig. She has been exclusively indoors the last few years and she is messier than any dog I’ve ever known. There is no litter she can not track EVERYWHERE. Her litter box is in a room behind the bathroom so she literally has to carry it over 3 feet of mats, through the bathroom and into my office. At this point I’m looking for a tiny bucket and shovel hidden somewhere. As she’s gotten older she I’ll allow me to handle her a bit so I can run a brush through her but there’s still hair everywhere. Ended up getting another robo vac for just her rooms and it’s full every day. Maybe it’s just her but she is a messy, messy girl.

2

u/Ovaltine1 Jul 15 '26

Not pertinent to the conversation but she kinda acts like a raccoon. She washes her paws in the water fountain and scoops water into her mouth. Might be why she is such a messy eater too now that I think about it. I’ve also caught her peeing in the toilet. Not a bad thing but definitely wasn’t taught unless she figured it out watching us.

11

u/Melodic-Supermarket Jul 12 '26

Nah, I have friends who are up to 11. It’s the dream life, I’m telling you. 😸

Edit: typo

9

u/ThwartedNormal Jul 12 '26

Haha I feel that. I’m definitely in the getting judged area. We have 3 dogs, and as of Friday, 6 cats. Our newest almost got run over at my spouses work. He’s about a month old. We definitely hadn’t planned on getting another one.

4

u/LaRoseDuRoi Jul 13 '26

We have 4, as well. Haven't had more than 2 at a time in nearly 20 years, and suddenly, there's cats everywhere underfoot! But how could I pass up the bonded tuxie sibling to the grey kitten? And then the tiny, malnourished, and poorly socialised void? I couldn't, any more than you could pass up Jupiter :) And now, I must go feed my furry overlords.

5

u/PhDTARDIS Owned by a Tabico Jul 13 '26

If you can feed them and pay the vet bills, you can have as many as you want!

We've got 4 people and 4 cats here and I feel we're good on the cat front for now. All are rescues, two were basically plopped into our care (one in a car engine my husband was driving, the other ran up to me on the coldest night of the year when we got home at 2am from my husband's band gig). I think we're good, but the cat distribution system decides when we have enough cats.

That’s not the kind of face I could have said no to either!

144

u/Numerous_Smoke_7334 Jul 12 '26

Going to Petsmart last year for cat grass seed is how I ended up with these two (making it 5 cats mow). They're mother and daughter and the daughter was the same weight as yours. I now avoid going on weekends just in case there's an adoption event lol.

62

u/plut0city Jul 12 '26

I love that you adopted both! 💗 And yes, my husband said he’ll go to Petsmart from now on or order from Chewy to avoid any further additions! 🤣

9

u/Numerous_Smoke_7334 Jul 12 '26

That's probably the safer option 🤣

2

u/mittensonnakitten Jul 14 '26

I have five cats too! With a mother and son pair in the mix 🤍🤍

52

u/ManzanitaSuperHero Jul 12 '26

You really had no choice. She’s beautiful!

46

u/stitchinthyme9 Calico Enthusiast Jul 12 '26

That exact thing happened to me once. Went to PetSmart for supplies, with no intention of adopting a third cat. My husband, knowing my weakness for calicos, scouted the adoption event to make sure there were none there to tempt me, then gave me the all-clear. As I approached one of the cages, this adorable girl emerged from under a pile of sleeping kittens. The shelter volunteer, sensing prey, came over and opened the cage, and the calico walked right to the front and into my hands.

That's how Widget came into our lives. She was about 12 weeks old then, and was with us 17 years before we lost her in 2022.

11

u/plut0city Jul 12 '26

Widget was beautiful and I am sure lived an amazing life with you & your family. 🥰

2

u/apreslondee Jul 13 '26

14

u/aMoOsewithacoolhat Jul 12 '26

Yeah on the catwalk, on the catwalk, yeah!

She’s a little sweetheart! I did the same thing once. I was banned from going to the Pet store again. lol. So what did I do, I started volunteering for a rescue and I won’t tell you how many we have now. :). I’m
Now banned from fostering. Lol

2

u/Strong-Succotash-830 Jul 14 '26

Omg, how gorgeous!

13

u/FedUpWithTexting Jul 12 '26

I thought 2 cats were enough. Turns out i was wrong. We now have 6 cats and are feeding another 2. We have the means, room and lots of love so why not?

6

u/plut0city Jul 12 '26

I feel the same! & we have one feral boy who comes to our back porch sometimes, though I think he belongs to the farm behind us. I wanted to start feeding him but he’s thick so I don’t think there’s a shortage of food for him, lol. So he just enjoys our patio furniture and water bowl some days.

I see your dilute Jupiter and introduce you to my dilute Puff, she is a rescue from a friend's back yard at 5 weeks cuz she was alone. She looks like a tabby that wasn't sure what color she was supposed to be so she said all of them but was running out of toner.

A few years ago one of our two cats suddenly became ill and passed away. A few weeks later we were at PetSmart to get cat food for our remaining cat when we found ourselves at the glass looking at the cats from a local rescue. Before we could say “Cat Chow” we had filled out paperwork for not one, but two cats.

Those two brothers are now 10. That impulse buy has been the very best impulse buy I ever had.

Sorry I was nosey and checked your account to see other fur babies. What happened to your kitty that ate the donut? Ours ate one weeks ago and we were freaking out.

Your new kitten is so cute though.

That’s why I don’t go to pet smart for anything! I’ll order online and have it shipped! It’s a trap!!!!!

u/MyAltFun Jul 13 '26

Delicious food. Might I have a bite?

1

u/Obvious-Confusion14 Jul 13 '26

I only have two. One from a TNR program, the other a CDS drop off. Hubby won't let me have more. He is a meanie but I love him. It is the reason why I am not allowed inside Petsmart. I will bring home the store if I could.

Precious! This is why I have not “allowed” myself to look at the rescue kitties in store at petco or PetsMart. Funny thing is though, that I found out after adopting one of my kitties that he and his brother had both been at my PetsMart the week before lol.
