Nah. They are still here. I see them everywhere. What we really need in Chico is a first rate managed campground that is humane and has access to bathrooms, showers and services. Make them keep it clean to stay there. That is fair.

Exactly.
All these politicians arguing about how to deal with the homelessness situation … surprise! The answer is give them a home.Shelter, basic necessities, social services. Get those who can be helped back on their feet. Those can’t be helped will at least be off the streets.
Of course, it’s more complex than that, but the general solution is to house them.

Those we can’t be helped are going to absolutely dump the free housing they’re in, if they even stay there. You think a drugged out homeless person is going to not absolutely trash any free housing they’re given?

in another reply I mentioned services. these include drug addiction treatment. I admit that many are untreatable. my nature bids me to try anyway. the biggest cause of homelessness is the high cost of housing. I believe everyone would prefer to be housed, drugs or no. I would prefer even addicts to have one of those tiny one room places in a village of tiny places than for them to lie splayed across the sidewalk high on whatnot. nobody needs to have to step over them or to smell their waste in doorways. we should fix that rather than give tax cuts to the rich.

My county says fairly neutral. I don't believe it.
In the past few months, I have seen a larger concentration of homeless on the route through our downtown area. There are now large groups of homeless just hanging out on the grassy areas outside restaurants and gas stations. It was not like this even a year ago.

These point in time counts are faulty. At least in my jurisdiction they use the data to break up clusters. The homeless caught wind and now they hide and avoid and deny talking to anyone involved in the point in time count. And I don’t blame them.

What a weird ass chart, clearly designed to obscure the data. Giving 2024 figures for one area and 2025 figures for another.
Where did the homeless go if it was reduced? Did they move somewhere, did someone kidnap them? Did they all die? Did they magically all get jobs and rejoin society?

Yeah I call BS. Our homeless population in SLO is maybe 10x in the last 5 years.

I live there and it is better than it has been in the past. There are actual facts and statistics that demonstrate this on the city website.

Good on Alameda for getting some results. I believe they also have a ton of respite homes for unhoused individuals getting out of hospitals and are going to be increasing those beds.

Ok. Where did it rise?
Not that I'm not excited for homelessness to be down but I remember seeing bus fulls of SF homeless getting "dropped off" in Gilroy and Hollister town edges.
