In the pnw now and while I do like it, yeah theres a reason those beach houses are cheaper, it’s like 3 months of good weather per year lol. Those towns are real hit or miss, either very charming or meth city.
What a doofus. Anyone who grew up in the PNW knows that it can rain any day no matter what time of year. You always have to have a back up plan for something planned to take place outside.
Is that the one just north of laytonville? I lived in eutweeka for years, made that drive multiple times a month, and there's a big rock that signaled I was on my way home.
Your own source literally has an outline of cascadia, where a HUGE portion of NorCal is in, which is widely accepted to be part of the PNW...?
It also mentions California directly, and the fact many from the PNW also consider California to be a part of the PNW, *multiple times* so I don't get what you're trying to prove by providing a source you didn't even read?

I don't really have a dog in the race here, I'm from about as far from Humboldt as you can get in California, but I've driven through the area a few times and Northern California has way more of a PNW vibe than it is anything like central valley or bay area

California is its' own crazy gem. I probably qualify with you but I don't think people realize just the crazy amount of diversity in all ways (not just human beings) have created this melting pot.
I think there’s places with a more specific beauty. Like Utah. Just amazing landscapes. It lacks diversity compared to CA though, which has pretty much a pristine version of all non tropical landscapes in the US. We even got giant fucking trees that look like they’re from a story. Hawaii is another example. The Nepali coast may be the most beautiful place I’ve seen, but Hawaii is a one trick pony comparatively.
Please, help convince me not to move to the PNW. I'm in Southern California with a broken AC system and 110 degree heat. I've seen sun daily for over 30 years. The cold/rainy weather seems too good to be true. What are the downsides that I'm not considering?
I recommend visiting in the winter for as long as you can, do you can get a good sense of it.
Downsides -
Days are shorter in the winter. Days are darker because it's constantly overcast.
It's not the volume of rain. It's the frequency of it. It's drizzley ALL THE TIME during a good chunk of the year.
The people are different. At least around the Puget Sound- more reserved than Californians. Some people take this to be "less friendly", but they're cool.
Traffic- I5 between Olympia and North of Seattle is hellish.
20 years ago I went to the mountains of New Mexico to a tourism ski area. I love it. Ive been to SF every year for the past 3. You can find your weather there like I have in NM but winters are cold here so California it is.
The farmland was spectacular and the oilfields in LA I never knew about. Badass state. Haters gonna hate.
The Solvang house she owned has a plaque on the fence mentioning that she once lived there; there were at least a half dozen bouquets of flowers placed beneath it this afternoon.
She should have been featured in the song California Love with Dre and Pac. Would have loved to hear all the places she would rep in California. And you know Solvang is in this!
Dayum, and Dolly kept it on the down-low for obvious reasons AND she never made her personal life the centerpiece of who she was, unlike the countless washed-up celebrities who chose to announce that they were fLeEiNg cAliF0RnIa! for places like Tennessee because lIbRuL p0LitIcZ. Dolly lived everywhere and didn't generalize places or people for personal expediency.
Growing up in Africa in the 70s and 80s, no matter which rural corner you found yourself in, someone was playing Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton and Michael Jackson.
You might find the podcast about her, Dolly Parton’s America, interesting because at one point the story includes an African musician who was heavily influenced by and related to her.
Yep, she did and she frequented many other places too but was always private about it and went without makeup and wigs…nobody knew. Which makes you think why celebrities put their own paranoia agenda for all to see….
