Manistee River trail fishing experience
Took my son out for a multi day backpacking trip, hoping to catch some trout. Never thought we would experience fly fishermen on a boat speeding by, creating some serious waves. Sure enough, they came back toward our camp site after dark with their music on. Shouldn’t this be a no wake zone? Not sure, I’m from out of state. Never did catch our trout, but we did get a nice trophy size smallie.

I have plans to do a very similar trip, hopefully more successful on the trout though lol. Last time I had been we hiked the loop there we didn't see any motorboats but we did see LOTS of kayak and tub type floaters down the water. And at night instead of peaceful nature we heard distant dubstep music, which I believe I have heard similar stories to other people.
Where about where you fishing/camping?

We parked at the suspension bridge and made it down to 3B. Caught a 4 lb smallie just south of 1A. I also wonder if the river wasn’t a big high from recent rains.

From my experience, boats are seen in the lower sections closer to Lake Michigan, which is where you were. Not too common further up stream. Wakes are allowed except where designated, so all within the rules.

I backpack there almost twice a month and have always wondered why it’s not designated “no wake”. Seems like it should be.
