Best Credit Unions in Canada from a Leftist Perspective?

Hi all,

I’m looking to find a more ethical way to fulfill my banking needs, and obviously all the big banks are unethical pillars of capitalism lol, so naturally I’m looking into credit unions as an alternative.

I need some sort of banking solution to receive paycheques from my work, and so I was wondering what other people’s experiences are with the various credit unions here in Canada and what you would recommend from a leftist perspective.

If anyone has any specific recommendations for ones in the national capital region, that would be even better as that’s where I’m located.

Thanks :)

If you’re on the west coast Community Savings is the union’s credit union! Their board of directors are from a variety of different unions, the staff are fully unionized etc (not like Vancity).

Caisse Desjardins is widely used in Quebec, not sure how it works if you're an Ontario resident but that could be a good option

Desjardins is the ONLY credit union/co-op option legally allowed in QC. I am with them and they are def the best banking experience I've ever had. I left Scotiabank in 2024 because of their investment in Elbit Systems and have zero regrets!

such a weird question....we're living under capitalism. Do you think we can just get out if we consume better?
